Seriously the best explanation I have ever heard. I have been playing golf for 25 years, maybe more and never have I been told this in such a way that it helped me so much. I have always done exactly what you described and no one has offered me this kind of advice to fix my slice. I played ball for most of my years until I took up golf but did not relate to the golf swing as it would be so much like the baseball/softball swing. I thought I had to swing the club straight thru. I tried swinging more downward, more upward, different grips, changing my stance, changing ball position, tilting, etc.... until I thought there was no hope. This was the fix! Thank you so much!

Been watching your channel for a while now. Then I run across this video. This has been my fatal swing thought exactly. Thinking I needed to get the club swinging straight through the ball. Now I understand what has caused my slice all these years. Going to get out to the range soon to see if I can fix it. Thanks Alex.
@fretless052 жыл бұрын
Awesome that you did some baseball swings to show your point! I often do baseball swings when getting ready to hit because it prevents my mind from trying to hit the ball - because it's not there. When I think too much about hitting the ball, my mind subconsciously makes my hands manipulate the club and I leave the face open just as you showed instead of letting the club swing through its natural arc. What shocked me to learn was that the club face will close on its own if I leave my wrists loose and let the club swing... it's counterintuitive, but the more I thought about keeping the face square at impact, the more open I left it!

I'm 56, and I've never heard anyone say this. I've tried swinging a driver a few times before my teens and then in my late teens, and I either hooked it or sliced it. No one ever explained the natural arch when you swing, and I never really paid attention to how others swung when they swung a driver. Great tip!

I am sure that this great advice . But like most golf advice I imagine it will break my swing worse than it has been . However now that I have heard it the damage is done and I will have to try to do it right . Thanks

Thanks for this video. I recently figured out something like this by looking for a dimple more on the inside of the ball and all I tell myself is to try and hit the dimple. I have played 3 rounds doing this so far and I either hit it straight, slight draw or sometimes push straight but never going pass the first cut of rough. My golfing buddy now say driving is not my problem. I now need to figure this out for my chipping 🙂

Hi Alex, been struggling a little with a slice just recently, just gave you tip a try on the practise range regarding using the two tee pegs, to swing inside, to ball to inside, wow, wow wow, just hit six of the most amazing drivers ever, and with a touch of draw that also gave me some extra distance, just swopped the pegs for a couple of white small flat discs so I could take the driver back directly over them, thank you again for this very easy and simple tip to hit and eliminate my driver slice, 👍👍👍David

Alex, your driver tips are single handily responsible for me hitting more fairways and lowering my score at least 5 strokes a round. Hitting from the trees is a good skill to have, one in which I’ve almost mastered, but golf is a lot more fun from the fairways!! Keep up the great content.

Another thing you could do (if you carry alignment sticks) is figure out where those tees would go as you showed us in the video and then put the stick down and put yellow tape around the alignment stick in those spots and then another were your ball is (in the center presumably). Then, when you're out on the course on a practice round and throw down the alignment sticks (I do this on the regular), it already had those marks set up. Just set the alignment stick 2 or 3 inches behind the ball, closer to your feet and it'll help with 3 major things; alignment for setup/swing, making sure you swing far enough out (and not inside) and also gives you a visual to try and path the driver over the yellow bits at the ends.

Hi Alex, love your videos and larning a lot! My golf game is improving a lot. Especially on the driving range, everything starts to fall into place and things get more consistent. However, 2 things I’m really struggling with: 1. I can apply the swing as long as I’m relaxed and try to hit without any real power. As soon as I try a bit more, things get inaccurate. How do I gradually add some power to the shots? 2. All good on the driving range, but very often on the course, things are so much harder and still hitting shanks. Mainly because of the terrain slope or the way the ball lies, i.e. embedded into grass or rough. I notice that especially on those occasions, the backswing is interrupted by the ground and that makes it inconsistent by itself. How do you deal with that?
@teddyzamba13962 жыл бұрын
Until you realize the tension in your swing is causing errant shots, you will not work on smooth power, the power comes at the bottom of your swing; and the power is generated by the leverage created and centripetal forces. Your head space is causing you to create problems that simply do not exist. Sure, there will be more difficult lies off the fairway, but the execution is fundamentally the same, however, depending on the challenge, you may have to adjust some things in the setup, but the swing dynamics stay pretty much the same. You appear to have some fundamental swing inconsistencies that are causing you to have unpredictable results.

What kills the drive for most is swaying forward I. The down swing to get power but it kills the flight and goes low. If you try too hard not to do that, many feel they are trying to distribute weight in the back more. So many keys to unlock in the consistency of the game.

I've found that I have 1 of 2 results: 1) Slice it 30 yards to the right. 2) Launch a laser beam to the left. If I make sure to follow through, all the way over my left shoulder, I pull the ball but it's straight as an arrow. I'm certain this is the result of years of slicing the ball having me naturally line up slightly open (aiming to the left). I need to be more cautious about how I'm lined up, and hopefully develop a more consistent swing to avoid slices.

Alex,u missed the most important part in hitting down ( compressing),is to focus your eye on the middle of the ball

I agree we should picture swinging the club on an arc but I feel like most people’s perspective or feel of that arc is more around, flat, and to the inside than it really is. This makes them swing the club head behind their hands to the inside and off plane early in the takeaway which leads to all the bad things. I guess everyone has different issues to work on.
@MisterBlake9022 жыл бұрын
So true ! I was trying to explain to a buddy recently that every time I hit a bomb I’m going way left but if hit one up the middle it’s like straight In the air skyrocketed and way short. For sure the arc is closer to what it should be when I’m going left ? God help me LOL

You are actually swinging the club on a tilted plane. Unfortunately most people twist the club manually while on that plane because they also see the clubhead opening and closing at the same time and don't realize the importance of keeping it unrotated. To best understand this for both a full swing and especially putting, build yourself a wooden putter/golf club with a 1 inch by 1 inch square OFFSET (tilted) shaft. Then ride the square shaft on a stair step above and watch what happens. This is when you will see that it is imperative that you not rotate the grip, shaft, and club relative to the plane it is riding on.. It is also then why ALL touring pros have a big flat topped putter. That is simpler to keep unrotated on it's tilted plane. Also the people who sell "The Putting Arc" also sell a clip on device for the shaft to help illustrate the same thing. No need to build a wooden club to get that flat spot to ride on. In putting, just be sure to swing or "release" the club off a very light grip. (as per Crenshaw and Tiger).

Doesn't calling it "in-to-in" path make more sense vs. "in-to-out"? I understand the concept, but I think the "in-to-out" verbiage is what confuses beginners. In-to-out just turns into to 'in-to-straight' like you have demonstrated.

@Eqnotalent2 жыл бұрын
Your example is kinda bad because we don’t tee the ball up middle of our stance. Since we tee the ball forward 4in. Your example the club would always swing outside in. That’s why so many golfer slice because where the ball position is. Best way to explain this you should use a hoola hoop at an angle as our plane. But you still need to point 10-15degrees to the right in order to have this “circle” swing in an arc while on another arc swing up. In 3D a driver swing is technically 2 arcs.

This is contrary to what I've heard from many pros. SWING THROUGH THE BALL before you release the club. It's also opposite to what the great Moe Norman taught us. Swing straight through the ball, not following the arc. So now I'm confused. I'm more apt to listen to Moe and pros than Alex Elliott?
