One of my favorites that has taken on a deeper meaning for me. I took someone very special to me to see the movie. She absolutely loved the film. In some of the most memorable scenes she would turn to me and whisper through her tears, “Thank you. I love this”. I think of her everytime I watch reactors on this film. I choke back tears every time. She passed away days after her birthday 5 months ago. Gladiator was already a very powerful film, but now it hurts even deeper when I see it again. Thank you Elena, for doing this. Your singing was beautiful and had me in tears.

How do you not understand, Maximus only goal after seeing his wife & son was revenge, period. He needed the help of everybody involved in his escape, the reason he was caught is Lucilla had to save her son so she told everything. After that it didn't matter how fast Maximus moved, the trap was already set. In the end Maximus won, got his vengeance and went to see his family. If you want to watch another epic movie with a bit of a happier ending watch "The Last Samurai" with Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe!

Joaquin Phoenix should have one his first Oscar with this. If you like gladiator and arena fights, I recommend you watch Spartacus Blood and Sand. Great story, acting and fighting. This was such an epic and brutal movie, and very well acted. Once again, that heart of yours blew me away, so awesome to see a woman so beautiful on the outside be even more beautiful inside, that's rare and so special, you go girl. If you liked this movie then The Patriot, and The Last Samurai will appeal to you as well, they're both just as good, also action packed and emotional too, both are great stories as well as movies.

The Romans apparently had trouble "pacifying" Germania, but they did eventually. One thing about the opening battle is that they were rigidly trained to avoid having their formation falling apart and devolving into a "free for all", with every man for himself. If it ever did happen, two men would get together and more would join them and they'd have a block and shield wall such as we saw in that arena battle scene. Romans were very well trained in this, and routinely were outnumbered 5 or 10 to 1, and emerged with a few percent loss, while mowing down vastly greater numbers, just because of such discipline and training. See Connie Neilsen, memorable and beautiful in a action fantasy drama S.F. movie "Soldier" with Kurt Russell. I watched your reaction to "the Fifth Element" with your amazing singing. I was glad that you did this Singing "Now We Are Free" from Gladiator in a Stairwell Lauren Paley kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2PLnqVnZ9Nkfsksi=cE6Cfr94HbyuK_T0

@@Elena_Rea Most swords weigh about 2.5 lbs to 3 lbs. The reason for this is that any lighter and it's not capable of doing enough damage when swung at an opponent and any heavier would make it too difficult to wield when swung (the momentum would throw the user off balance). A Roman gladius, which is a shortsword, weighed about 1.75 to 2.5 lbs due to its smaller size and use, namely thrusting from behind a shield rather than slashing.

To answer your question about the weight of a Roman sword, a gladius (like in the film) might weigh 700-800 grams. Swords are actually a lot lighter than most people think; even a big two-handed sword would only weigh around three kilograms at the heaviest. Remember that in a fight you would need to move it vigorously for potentially many minutes at a stretch.
