For those mentioning the rear tire: Insurance did not think it had enough to do with the crash to be at fault for the accident, it's got more tread on it than it looks like. It's definitely worn out and I actually had a new set of tires at home when this happened. I was legitimately just waiting for my bike's appointment in 2 weeks from before the crash happened to put on the new tires. I was only out riding because it started a sunny day and was going out to eat. It was such a sudden downpour that I rode into. I didn't realize how slick it was.

It's fine. I'm not looking to be some big patreon youtuber person. I just make videos I wanna make. That's what my channel has always been. A bit of a blog of what I've been doing with my life. If I stay a small youtuber making vids for a small audience, no big deal, if I get bigger that's fine too. It makes no difference to me. This is why I dont really do shorts anymore, they were more effort than their worth and I wasn't going to be pulled into being a content mill person. I've seen what it does to other youtubers like MatPat, and Tom Scott, It's not something I desire. I'll just make the videos I wanna make and if it goes somewhere great, if not, no big deal.

I actually talked to insurance about the tires and they think it wasn't a factor in the crash. It's hard to tell in the video bit there is still a reasonable amount of tread but the tire was absolutely due for a swap. I was going to get the tires swapped a few weeks after this crash(before it happened) since I already had my brand new tires on hand. I just had to get to the shop and weather and scheduling was not agreeing with me. The chopper shop that does my tires didnt have an opening for me for the next week so I was stuck waiting and just wanted to enjoy some nice free food at nice places since I don't get to do that all that often. The whole situation just sucked.

Gorgeous bike! Glad you weren't severely injured in your crash. Anything can happen to anyone at any time. Traction is drastically reduced in inclement weather. Painted lane stripes and "tar snakes" pose a significant threat when there is moisture on the pavement. Try to resist the urge to ride aggressively until the road and traffic conditions are more conducive.

A little trepidation after an incident, especially it being your first? is completely normal- there is an old saying there are two types of riders those that have gone down and those THAT WILL. Now you are in the former group , you survived it, and you got back on which is exactly what you need to do! Pro level moto go riders can push hard in the rain watch it some time and watch how often they wipe out when it’s wet! Understand it may not be the last time it happens. In the rain double your normal following distance, slow down a bit and no sudden or abrupt control inputs if it can be avoided. 38 years in the saddle on a Harley,47 total on motorcycles and I’m still here, and I’ve had my share of mishaps believe me, almost all because of my own , ummm let’s just say misguided judgment ( somebody hold my beer and WATCH THIS!) My prediction is you’ll regain full confidence in time this will get filed in that subconscious part of your brain that will INSTANTLY pop back to the forefront next time you find yourself in a similar situation. Lesson learned, glad your ok, stay at it and RIDE SAFE

Oh this isn't my first accident. I've been in a few. December 2019 I hit the deck going 30 in the middle of the night on my electric. Face into the pavement and I do not remember it. I was riding them bam, I wake up and see myself standing next to the gutter and an ambulance is pulling up, and im "what the...." the report said I hit the ground and blacked out. From the incident it seems like my front tire slipped out on a wet leaf or something. I think it's because I dont remember the accident that I didnt have any fear of it. I was also hit by a prius driver in 2018. But that wasn't my fault so I had no reason to be afraid of the bike after that one.

it didn't have that much to do with the rain. It when you cranked the throttle. Harleys are toquey, you've heard this alot and now you have experienced it. As you change lanes you leaned a little moe than necessary and when you went to straighten out is when you gave it gas. whats funny is i did almost the same thing a week after picking up my roadking. i was making a right turn ,went to straighten out gave it to much gas. I kept the bike upright but just about went over the bars. I've been ridding Harleys for over 50 years. we all f$%k up, just don't kill yourself.

You changed lanes from left to right in a left turn, you accelerated too hard (?) at that moment. The torque of the engine is quite high at low revs that it made the rear tire spin shortly in the wet which made you loose control and high sided. Glad you are okay. I own a 2019 Fat Boy and avoid riding in the rain because even when the fat OEM Michelin tire has enough profile it still looks like a slick, just like the front tire. Even on a drying road I once almost lost the bike in a corner at a low speed on a patched up part of the surface.

Do you see the little hole in the tire ? That’s a tread wear mark when you see that whole and no tread that is way past the life expectancy of that tire ! I’ve been riding motorcycles and dirt bikes for 45 years ..

Oh my bike already has lifted suspension and ride height. I have a taller than stock Ohlins shock, and larger diameter tires, a 150/70 R18 front and 260/40 R18. I need some floorboard lifts to get more lean angle.

Glad youre alright! And glad the bike is still good to go! I 1000% refuse to ride in the rain. Im on my 2nd year of riding now, and I refuse to do it. I got caught in the rain one time and that was enough for me, I obsess over the weather each day I go riding. Ill pull off somewhere and wait it out if I have to, I wont risk it at all. Rain, fog, and deer are the 3 main things I fear when riding. I got caught in horribly thick fog one day and that was the most scared on a bike ive ever been. The complete loss of balance, the sheets of fog coming at me hiding the few feet of road I could see, not knowing where the curves were, hoping a car didnt come flying up on me not seeing me... that was one of the most terrifying things ive ever experienced.

Two things I see, one like others, back tire could have a better tread design for the different riding style dictated by road, second it started to rain, the zipper an fog line is the first to get slick, as soon you tagged the zipper, your carnival ride was paid in full. Honestly time to hit the parking lot an get your confidence back up, dipping into U-turns, ride safe.

Very glad you are OK. You made some good points towards the end of the video that resonate with me. I know the sadness of banging up a bike you've put a lot of effort into. That paint shop did amazing work on your tank. I didn't know it was possible to match stuff that well. Guess us backwoods folks really are a little behind the times. I also understand the heavy responsibility of having loved ones as passengers. If my Wife or Son ever ride with me you better believe I go slow and cautious. I am very easy on the throttle to keep them from jerking during gear changes (I actually saw an idiot in town throw a girl off the back of a crotch rocket slam shifting one time). I also kinda like the rain mode of my 23 114. It might come in handy when I least expect it to. I think it is good that you posted this video and your thoughts for other riders. It is always easier and less expensive to learn from the mistakes of others than our own. Anyhow go out and enjoy your groovy ride. If you still feel a little down buy some parts you've been wanting for a while, I bet that'll help.
