lol Spektrum still killing airplanes. 14 years ago I watched the original DSM kill some planes. DSM2 did not get much better and even when DSMX came out those unexplained crashes continued. I had a friend on the DX9 when it first come out crash a beautiful 1/5 scale TF spitfire. He had left stick, throttle and rudder but no right stick, ailerons and elevator. Sent it in and got the customary " we could find nothing wrong but swapped out the RF deck for you anyway " He sold it. Bought a Jeti and no issues since. I bought a futaba. I have never had a loss of signal with thousands of hours on all my planes. Only issue ever was a bad spark plug boot on my warbird. Gave me some minor glitching but was still able to land her. I now put a simple pipe clamp on all my plugs on my gassers and no issues since. Used to be that when binding the plane's spektrum Rx to the Tx that set the failsafe. But if after the first binding you had to adjust trim on first flight or the worst was having to reverse a servo it would really change the failsafe settings, especially with expo added. We used to tell guys to do the maiden flight and when all was trimmed good with servo's set for proper direction to then do a final rebind to reset the failsafes to all the new proper settings. Good luck.

On my jets I've replaced the receivers with duel antenna ones like the AR637T or the AR8360T. I also added integerated remote receivers just behind the nose cone too. My frame losses went from the hundreds to 18 or less for every flight now. With these receivers I also have the added benefit of monitoring my flight pack voltage.

I fly using a TX16 w/Multi Protocol module, and transitioned some Radian sailplanes to other receivers. They worked great with my radio, but I wanted a receiver with a Vario and some other features no on the Spektrum receivers. He's flying a Spektrum DX series radio and couldn't shut off some of the SAFE features which I was able to bypass using a non-Spektrum radio. We'd rebind the receivers according to the "SAFE-Off" settings in the Radians manual, but at the next power cycle they would be re-enabled. It's crazy that the Spektrum Rx's worked better with my 3rd party radio than the radio of the company that made them. He gave the Rx's back to me after a couple tries. He doesn't have the cable to connect them to a computer to adjust the settings, but the Safe Off binding worked on my TX16s. Crazy.

@@txkflier Maybe he doesn't understand the problem... I didn't have a problem.

@@txkflier I can turn SAFE on/off just like the Spektrum instructions say (I thinl something to do with removing the binding plug before or after removing power). I was able to shut it off permanently using TX16, when my friend does it with his DX6 it defaults back to SAFE after one flight.

The fail safe standard setup makes since. I had a controller power off due to a faulty power switch. Watch a jet fly away. If I had a slight turn at least it may had flown back enough to recover. As in any thing in life, there is no perfect answer. Except as experienced as you are, you could break the receiver and set up failsafe like you want or just turn it off.
@putzytart9 ай бұрын
I like the concept of safe failsafe, I guess in your situation where in a low inverted pass it’s not what you want though. I would suggest though that at that altitude and inverted if failsafe kicks in you are going to crash no matter what your failsafe is….

I just had a 631 rx replaced due to intermittent holds with low to zero frame losses. It was in a 3dhs Slick and went into holds for only a split second - just long enough to hear the throttle drop then resume. I use an audio feedback on all of my planes to keep track of this data so I knew as soon as it went into hold. A new receiver was put in exactly the same way with zero issues. Mine was happening around 1-200 ft away. Yours was close enough to hit with a rock… I vote for failed rx.

it's interesting (and concerning) to hear that you were running into those intermittent issues. I might look into that audio feedback, seems like a good way to ensure you're aware of what's happening with the connection

As a suggestion, I have the radio set to call out after x number of fades and holds, x varying on fades based on type of plane setup and x being 1 for holds on all of them. And I have a callout set to switches such as throttle cut so I don’t forget about it after a flight and the I button so I can check fades from time to time when I do remember. Some places I fly are less friendly and fades can go up so it’s good to keep track - but I need reminders.

Sucks that happened. How old is that transmitter? None of this stuff lasts forever and crap happens.
@stevenk3140 Жыл бұрын
Awesome informative video. Did you telemetry show any holds? Thank you
@skyboundrc Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I immediately assumed that this was a servo problem and turned off cameras and transmitter before I thought of checking telemetry in my TX. As I didn't have an SD card at the time of the crash, I don't think I'm able to retrieve any telemetry logs at this point... Lesson learned

Great stuff and I’m sorry to see ur Viper crashed .. but apart of failsafe, did u check why should you lose radio link in short range?!

This is why I don't use any Spektrum receivers with SAFE or AS3X. All my non glider planes have the traditional AR620 ones-no SAFE, no AS3X. No issues at all. With the SAFE/AS3X ones I had nothing but drama: uncommanded maneuvers, brownouts, glitches-all at random intervals. I replaced all these receivers and no more drama and zero issues. I buy all my planes PNP.

This happened to me with the pitts S2 UMX by plane ON DX8 Transmitter the plane stopped responding rolled right and crashes quite hard thank goodness for hot glue gun . Was able to repair for air worthiness. Although I don't have such a beautiful plane any more.

I believe on my Extra 300 failsafe defaults to hold last, throttle off. Just as dangerous in this case!

Definitely inverted that low is not a good place to go into failsafe regardless of the setting... :-(

Honestly, I think hold last may have saved this airplane if it regained signal within a few seconds. The roll killed it. Juan is an expert and the Viper was a victim of a bad bnf program in my opinion.
