Ok: let’s do this! 1) Before worrying about body position/dragging knee you need to understand the physics of cornering. You cannot increase throttle while adding lean angle (as mentioned). But that’s happening because you are not trail braking into the corners. You’re over-slowing (normal for beginners), then increasing throttle even before you arrive at the apexes. Instead- if you over-slow for a corner, you have to crack/open the throttle (maintenance or neutral throttle )enough to maintain your radius until the bike has direction out of the corner. THEN you can increase throttle as you decrease lean angle. 2) Even if you have physical limitations inhibiting your ability to crouch low against the tank, remember “butt before brakes”. Scooting off the seat allows the outside thigh to brace against the tank, which then takes more weight off the hands and makes it easier to lean down towards the inside. Couple this with “screwdriver grip” for your inside hand and your elbows won’t be as locked in to your side. 3) Getting faster means you first have to get better at braking until you set an appropriate mid-corner speed. Good on ya for posting to learn from mistakes (and it can help others)

So you lost the rear in crash #1 and the front in crash #2 but it’s import to point out that they were caused by THE SAME MISTAKE: increasing throttle while adding lean angle. Crash #2 you took weight off the front tire by increasing throttle during tip in while adding lean. Both of these crashes are the most common type of crash for newer track riders. It seems counterintuitive but most front end crashes (for amateurs) are from unloaded front tires.

As you add lean angle you must decrease throttle application. As you reduce lean angle and stand the bike up, you can add throttle proportionately to the reduction in lean angle. It doesn't take a lot of combined lean angle increase and throttle increase to put pressure on the rear wheel. Combine that with the movement across a seam of a pavement patch and that's all you need. But anyway, we all learn some lessons the hard way! I have crashed so many times that I stopped counting...

I definitely liked your formatting of this video and I share your sentiments about doing track days solo. I live in Texas and do trackday in Wisconsin (originally I was born & raised in WI) with some friends who do it too. It's always good to have the buddy system. I crashed last month myself and I share the same sentiment/verbal exclamation, "God damn it"...that is exactly how I felt as it was happening. My two cents work on the mechanics of trail braking and loading up the suspension properly & the speed will come. Being consistent & smooth will bring you the speed. I'd like to get up to PNW to do Ridgeway at some point. Looks like a fun track. Cheers!

Thanks is for posting. I see myself @15:48 (green bike). Others have addressed what caused your first crash. Your second crash, you were off the front brake entering the chicane and adding lean angle, so it was unloaded. You want to be trailing the brake off until you hit that apex. Remember you should either be braking or accelerating to varying degrees or maintenance throttle typically only on t6 & 15 on this track. You should never be coasting. Emily is the best BTW.

I wrote a comment before that cold Tires cause your crash that made me not have been the case I didn’t watch the whole video, but looks like it was probably contributed. When that cold weather is like that you have to really keep heat in the tires. And it looks like that last crash you slipped on a sealer patch type of thing. That stuff is always more slick when it’s cold.

Everybody who's fast on track had to learn lessons the hard way, too. As others have said: the cause of your crashes were adding lean angle and throttle at the same time. As you enter most corners you want to be on the brakes, trailing off your brakes as you add lean angle. Stay on those brakes until you are happy with the direction of your bike. NEVER begin to add throttle/accelerate until your bike is pointed through the apex and towards your exit. One other big safety thing: when you crash, remember that there's still an active track right behind you. Don't go turning your back to the track to look at your bike, just get yourself somewhere safe. And do not pick your bike up and put it on its kick stand while there's still other riders on track. Otherwise, just keep it up, man.

Is your bike setup for your weight, do you have heavier front springs? Have you had a suspension tuner dial your bike in? These are all very important, To avoid crashes! What about your tires, are they race tires, did you have warmers were they hot? I can see several things on your bike that you can improve that may benefit you. First off your forks seem to high up, put the bike on a front triple stand and measure from the top of the bottom lower triple clamp to the center of the axle, you want to be at 525-530mm. Having front end too low, will tuck your front tire more easily, and make the bike less stable. Second your clip ons are too narrow, spread them out open and try to keep them as close to straight, this will help give you feel for the front end, and make bike more stable. Too the people who say you "cant" go on the throttle while at lean angle lol, no offence they are the slow guys. On race prepped r6's we go full throttle and full angle all the time. The key is not to enter slow, when you keep that momentum fast on entry and not disrupt the chassis, you can crack the butterflys just a little to compress the rear and right away before the apex hit full throttle. Actually the really pro riders, spin the rear tires just to turn the bike. Work on your lines, have someone whos fast show you some lines, follow the lines and be strict with yourself in holding them, having fast lines makes you a lot faster and safer. If the bike wonders and doesnt hold the line, tell your suspension tuner for help. Go see if you can rent a minigp bike and practice on go kart tracks, this is very helpful and helps you hold those tight hard lines, and teaches you how early to get on the throttle and how to control the bike. Plus being little sketchy bikes, helps make you a smoother rider. Keep it up, your looking good! These small wrecks will make you fight harder to go faster.

As others have said, as you add lean you reduce throttle input. Also you should know that cruising the track will not produce/keep heat in your tires. Front tire heat is generated under heavy braking, which is why the front brake is your best friend on the track. Nice job on the weight loss, from the video it looks like your suit is too tight and restricting a lot your movement. Keep working on that body position and using that front brake and you'll see improvement.

Double post since I just finished the video. You're right, you only work on one or two things every session and improve over time. From your video you're doing a lot of coasting as well, just remember, you're either on the gas or on the brake. You use that brake until you get the bike pointed to where you want to go and only then do you start opening the throttle.

I have crashed at turn 12 the same way. Anyways people keep saying dont add throttle and lean. I think its important to explain the reasoning for that. Throttle removes pressure on the front tire making the tire contact patch become smaller. The tire compresses and warps with force such as hard breaking makes the round tire to become more flat like a car tire. Acceleration transfers weight to the rear tire like the bike is a titter tauter. If you are turning you want the front tire to be engaged. This is why people are saying trail brake into a corner as deacceleration assists your front tire.
