A couple of weeks ago I came to the Ring for some TF laps in a slower car (125hp suzuki swift). As it was mid-week, most of the traffic was very fast, i.e. BMW Ms and Porsches, so naturally, I was overtaken many times. I can say that maybe 20% of these drivers are overly aggressive, and expect me to disappear even in places where the car is unstable (Schwedenkreuz is a good example). Some even try to squeeze in ignoring my left turn signal. That's really strange attitude for a TF ride.

I agree. I’ll just add that with this approach, there will always be someone faster on the track, unless you're sitting in an F1 or an AMG ONE. If you want to go aggressive, do it within your own class on the track. If it’s a MIXED class, then all classes need to be able to adapt. Faster need to be avare about limits slower car, and slower car must be aware about faster cars and let them pass when possible and safe.

For novices, the ring must be incredibly intimidating, and those more experienced users should be aware of others. I don't want to be a party pooper, but there should be different track times depending on your ring experience, and every time you do a lap, that should be recorded on a card and sessions should be allocated based on this. Those with little to no track time should be allowed their own session to go out with drivers of similar experience, and then the same for the more seasoned drivers and so on. Also with the speed difference between the different cars/drivers, it's a miracle there's not been many more fatalities, especially with the lack of protective equipment etc. Sorry if this sounds boring, and personally I've never been myself and would love to go at some point, but constantly looking in my mirrors and worrying about being in the way would just completely ruin the laps for me, and not make for a good trip.

What really pisses me off about the guy trying to justify his actions was the fact that there's literally a comment on the lap video from someone that was a passenger in a Z4 (I assume the one with the big wing, which I definitely approve of btw) claimed that this wasn't a one of instance. The comment claimed that they'd done this to basically everyone and not just on this lap, apparently they'd been doing it for 2-3 laps previously. Definitely should be banned from the ring and potentially even have their licenses revoked for a bit.

From my point of view, it's simple. Do you feel faster than the guy in front of you? Put on your blinker. Does it seem like there’s enough space for you to move into the left lane and it's clear that you're at least 5-10% faster? Then go ahead, signal, but do it at a spot where it’s safe for the car being overtaken to ease off the gas, so they have room and won’t end up in a critical situation due to the new line. In this case, the signal came way too early, and I didn’t think the speed difference was that dramatic either. It happened at the least suitable place - one of the fastest corners with an important apex, and during extreme traffic no less. Not to mention Misha had a slower car ahead of him in his lane.

As long as you have enough self control to still drive safely and within the law whilst angry, I think it's fine to feel anger. It's a valid and natural human emotion, and completely blocking all anger from your life, even when people are doing things that quite frankly SHOULD illicit anger, is actually pretty unhealthy, just as being angry all the time is also not healthy, and if he had made this video also still angry I would probably be on your side. However it's one of our primary tools to avoid people walking all over us when they don't have our best interests at heart, just like these drivers didn't have mishas. It's also a way of conveying the importance of info in safty critical times when someone is about to make a highly dangerous mistake and you have to stop them (there are also many other valid situations and reasons where the emotion anger has it's place, being out of control angry is different from feeling anger but still being in control, two very differant states of being). Now if he started purposely not getting out of the way or something once it was safe because of his anger, fine you have a point. But he drove his car in the exact way he was suposed to regardless of how he felt, and to me THAT is what makes a great driver, as we are all humans and all suseptable to these things called emotions, and all emotions are valid and have a place and a reason why they exsist to begin with. Also it's not that this is a normal road where some annoying person is just that, annoying. It's actually highly dangerous to flash and distract drivers infront of you at 200+mph, and considering Misha spends SO SO much of his time preaching how to be safe on the NB ring, I can see why something like this, from such supposed experianced, and regular drivers of the ring would cause anger. He already knows these cars, he knows they should know better, and he knows had it not been him or someone with his experiance, and the flashing had forced a weaker driver to break a safe line and move out the way, it very well could of been ANOTHER of the 4-5 accidents that had already happened on that day alone, one of which someone may of lost their arm in and was airlifted to hospital as a result of!

Two ‘regional’ high beam experiences. In New York (suburbs) .. when approach a slower driver in the left lane, who DID NOT notice you for 30-60 seconds.. it was customary (still is?) to flash your high beams (no more than 2-3 times) .. to alert them you want to pass. The driver ahead often politely moved to the right, and both drivers mutually respected each other. In Connecticut .. one state over, the opposite occurs. Many slow drivers in the left lane ‘refuse’ to move right and cause long traffic back-ups. This results in others to pass on the right, leading to more accidents. When approach them, and use 2-3 high beam flashes, they respond with a ‘disrespectful’ middle finger, and continue to back-up the traffic flow.

Here in the UK flashing lights at all, for instance to let someone who is incoming through, is frowned upon, and if you cause an accident by doing so it will be your responsibility. As to speed and being able to stop, you should be able to come to a stop within the sighted distance, ie within the distance you are able to see.
@dermo7916Ай бұрын
Even on trackdays you can get similar nonsense and sometimes people expect you to get out of the way in places where suddenly moving off the racing line is actually quite dangerous. One or two flashes if you’re closing on someone fast is forgiveable but can still be distracting for the driver in front.

Kindov, but I do recall videos of folks driving in the 70, toppeling out from their summersalting automobiles along with what I can imagine was their office work, it was kind of funny because no one got hurt and the speeds were drastically reduced than now, I think a lot of people should just be content with computer game versions of this iconic track. Everyone who wish to use it drive safely they don’t call it widow maker for nothing.

Reading comments here totally agree with misha, for many people its the experience to drive there and push a bit. Many crashes have happend because of a fast car approaching aggressive and forcing the tourist to make room for him and do stupid moves to lose control. After seeing this and being many times there it makes more sense to me that if it continues like this and becomes more a problem track prepper cars should not be allowed on TF. In the netherlands during vrij rijden on assen/zandvoort there are classes like, tour and sport. In the tour class more dailys and less experienced drivers. Sport more the track prepped/experience drived. In the tour class its not allowed to enter with a rollcage, Tour can can join the sport class. perhepas Nurburgring should also work with entering hours for non prepped/prepped cars

Allow me to say it. The other driver's comment on your reaction is bullcrap. Repeated high-beam flashing, distracts and irritates all the drivers ahead of you. They take their eyes off the road to look into the mirror to see what's going on, to see why is a dude behind them flashing like crazy. So this does induce danger unlike what he says. Also at the point where he was excessively flashing even from far far away, there were a few turns following, where the cars' top speed would be limited by the curves of the track, meaning there is NO possible way for you to let him overtake. Later on, at 0:25, you are following the "racing line" of the circuit which makes complete sense since you're driving at high speeds, and so is the driver in front of you and so is everyone. But that guy still, even in the brake zone at 0:28, KEEPS FLASHING his goddamn lights which is beyond pointless. What are you gonna do? Disappear to let him pass?

@DaftyBoi41219 күн бұрын
I was going to overtake a car in the second overtaking lane on the motorway (3 lanes, 2 for overtaking). Only 3 cars in eye's distance, me, a car a fair bit back, and this car just driving down the middle lane up ahead that I was planning on overtaking. I was going 10-15mph faster than them, I was in the lane to their right (the correct lane where I am as we drive on the left hand side of the road), and with maybe 2-3 meters from the tip of my car to the back of theirs, without indicating they just suddenly pulled infront of me! OFC you can't shed 10-15mph in 2-3 mtrs without locking up the wheels, which I did whilst blaring the horn, and avoided running into the back of them as a result, however I had a new problem and my car was starting to vear towards the concreet venter divider of the motorway and I was in a heavy skid. I had to jerk the car left to change the direction of the skid, but there was also a car about 10-20 mtrs back in the center lane also breaking heavily, so I had to correct and bring the car back to stright all whilst the wheels were locked up and dam near spun out (I was almost going sideways at one point!), but luckily I just caught it and got her stright just before I would of lost control and spun. Some people are flipping crazy I swear. They had no reason to move over. Unless it was an attempted insurance job, but who TF in their right mind does that at motorway speeds?! I think they were just mad I was overtaking them and wanted to teach me a lesson or something crazy like that. I mean I was kind of in their blind spot when they moved over, but they had no reason to move, the road was 100% clear ahead and they had all three lanes and had bee crusing in the middle lane from the point I could see them in the distance till the point I tried to pass them. I was blaring my horn from the moment they started to move over and not once did they even slow down their manuver. Thinking about it still keeps me up some nights.. and it was over a decade ago it happened! It was so close to me wrecking out badly, like so so close! I'm really dang careful when passsing cars these days as a result, as it proper shook me up, but what gets me though is there's nothing I could of done to avoid it more than I did! My dad always used to tell me "It's not your driving you need to be careful of, it's every one else's on the road", and that's so true!

100% right here Misha. As you say It's not a race it's the last lap of the day there's a tonne of cars and no need for that sort of driving flashing is distracting and continually flashing is aggressive and could cause the other driver to panic unnecessarily those drivers need to get a grip and if their not happy go on another day with less cars.

In Germany, the legal warning of others in traffic with the high beams flashing, Misha is talking about, is depending on the distance one has to the car in front. One must have at least the safety distance to be legally able to use the flash once(!). If one is closer than the safety distance and still uses the high beams to flash the car in front, it is seen as harassment in traffic and will lead to severe punishments by the law enforcement if reported and documented/witnessed. The safety distance is measured by the rule of thumb: "Half your Speedo". --> 200km/h > 100m distance, 160km/h > 80m, etc. You will realize that the safety distance is quite far, when you look at the distance of the marking poles on the street (25m regional street, 50m Autobahn). But the SD is there for a reason.
@christophermanley777Ай бұрын
Thanks for this explanation mate! Kept your head well. I agree with your sentiments on your behaviour, you do drive very fast and borderline too aggressively but you never harass other drivers, you always leave room and are very cautious when you see a difficult multicar situation. Driver education for the regulars is completely acceptable, they know better but they’ve been allowed to behave badly. Reaffirming the rules, and the etiquette, is absolutely necessary. Keep up the legendary work. 20 year from now our kids will be watching an NSX and 22B driven by the same benchmark guy around the ring, just like us watching Climbdance.

IMO, flashing once or twice when you're close proximity were ok. But both the M4 & GT3 RS were flashing since long distance away, and for quite a long time. I don't see the reason to do this, because this is not a competitive situation, and overtaker are one that make sure overtake should be safely manner, not the other car(s).

I watched the full version of this video to get a bit more context. There were some really fast cars in this session. Regarding the Bimmer and Porsche, I think the flashing was a bit excessive and they could have used the indicator instead. However, I also see it from there point of view that they were trying to warn other drivers from a far distance, with less room for error at that higher speed.

About 7:35: When the flashing leads to the one in front to loose controll, this will probably not only being charged as harassment but also with "Gefährlicher Eingriff in den Straßenverkehr", so dangerous interference with road traffic, which can lead to up to five years in jail. Maybe also negligent assault.

Those flashers risk the lives of the cars in front and they do not care. It is so distracting to receive these flashes, it also makes you angry and you lose focus. It invites people to retaliate in the heat of the moment. We don't need to wait for a crash to eventually happen because of them. Get them off the road ASAP. And since they are risking lifes, jail time seems somewhat justified for special offenders even when nothing bad has happened YET.

Well said Misha💁♂️A valid reminder regarding the use of common sense and track etiquette at all tracks, not just the NBR Nordschleife. This proven combination makes for less crashes, everyone goes home safely and everyone can return to drive as fast as they and/or their vehicles are capable of consistently delivering, on any future day, on any given racetrack. Your life and the lives of others are too precious to lose through impatience and stupidity🙏🏻😃

You are allowed to use your high beams and also your horn to signal the driver in front of you that you are about to overtake him outside of villages/cities. What you cannot do is tailgate him and use your high beams to signal him to move out of the way - that's considered harassment.
