I know that since Antonio is a higher rated player the traps and strats he deployed in these games are fairly ordinary, but to me they seem like magic! Even the way he finishes is masterful. Once he's winning he looks for mate right away. Doesn't even bother wearing the opponent down into an easy endgame. He just keeps the pressure on and hits him with another crippling blow with no mercy whatsoever.

The taking the rook vs sacrificing the queen was my "pause the video moment". I think you could've captured the rook, and when Kxf8 then bh6+ and he has to go back to e8, and then you proceed to take the free knight cause his bishop is pinned. But maybe I'm confused =) Great content as always

9:06 stoked to say at this point I saw h5 as a future threat! I checked the same line that was played (most forcing, trade down material) and saw the mate threat on h7. While it's flashy, practically speaking it's probably smart to have avoided this line; h6 defending is very tough to see in advance and a lucky resource to have. Funnily, it's not so simple to find a line that doesn't have threats on h7 - but other lines are slower for white. A practical choice might have been ...Bxf3 hitting the rook. If the rook wants to stay on the h-file with Rh2, ...Bh5 threatening Nf3+ picking up the rook, practically forcing Bg7. You will still need to play carefully with your knight out of the game for a while but white's pieces are also tied up and doesn't have a clear plan.

Antonio, at 14:55 what if white goes King h3? Any move back to 1st row is losing as it allows multiple checks and loss of Rook on h4. But if King to h3, isn't there a chance of a draw via some repetition of some kind? Plus if black fails to deliver continuous checks then white has Qg7+ mate. His only chance is to go towards black side
@ELKCreativist5 ай бұрын
He didn't seem to think about it (much at least), but after Kh3 there is a crushing move with ...Rh2+! followed by ...Nf3+! too, eventually losing the queen or getting destroyed (Edit: it's a forced mate in like 12 moves or something to add). All is engine-analyzed, not mine.
@vitzal36915 ай бұрын
Im by no means an expert (currently 1200) but I think if: 1. Kh3 Qxh4+ 2. Kxh4 Nf3+ 3. Kh5 (since if king goes g file, then Rg2 picks up the queen and you're up a rook + knight) Rh2+ 4. Kg4 Rg2 (picking up queen) Now you're up a rook + knight. Please let me know if there's a better option, i just came up with this while in bed 😅

1:12 Why would Qe2 not be a better move? I'm certain I'm missing something.
@faznaz74555 ай бұрын
Well there’s Qe7 but i have no idea with the inclusion of Qe2 Qe7, whom it favours. D5 is also another option but somehow i dislike this because this allows Bb5 and the knight gets to jump around. Maybe it is nothing but from a practical point of view, i prefer not to allow this. Edit: I think Qe2 Qe7 favours black after more thought because the knight is forced to retreat to g1 and now Nd4 becomes much stronger which would force the queen back to d1 anyway, so you gain 2 tempi. Note that c3 ideas are too slow to stop Nd4 because it creates a huge weakness on d3, so black can plant the knight on e5 then d3. Black gains the pawn back with d5 break threatening Bxf5 with full central control. Tldr; You lose at least a tempo for putting Queen on e2 if not more, it belongs on d1 to cover c2 from knight.
