From the thumbnail position, did you consider Qxg7, bxg7, Ne7+ with a royal fork? I mean, you trade queens and horses, but you win a pawn, and it's really unnecessarily fancy. EDIT: HA! it came up in the analysis.

Antonio, it is a well-known technique in advanced driving to give a commentary while driving. Perhaps it is good for your chess, too. I think it is admirable how you get yourself into not too brilliant positions and then extricate yourself. Perhaps I spend too much time and effort trying to avoid those indifferent positions. Chris

Never knew about this. Can the commentary be anything, or should it be related to driving? Please answer, for I am curious.

That's the Hungarian defense. It's not bad online. Scores fine in all time controls below titled level and fine at all levels in blitz/bullet. It's not easy for white to prove the move order is iffy.

Interesting how many times you identified his most likely moves, or the engine identified errors you had made and what he should do to take advantage, and every time he does something else. I often get the feeling I play like that. Always looking for something devious and tricky, and as a result reject the simpler strong moves that win.

The Hungarian Defense with Be7 is very soild and good if a bit passive. This shows a large hole in your opening knowledge ( non-GMs all have these holes ) . Black is not asking for much but can allow white a small edge with patience and care Black can equalize .
