THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN and this is our second of three campaign missions before heading into a sandbox game! In this episode, we're whisked off to the island of Java in Indonesia, where we're setting up a transportation company to transport coffee in 1870. We'll learn more advanced building techniques, including how to adding passing tracks, how to delete things, and how to respect the topography.
And by the end, you'll figure out why I had to deliver coffee to a priestess.
Enjoy!

You don't have to build a truck station in the city, you only need a truck stop. Also, have you ever seen a train with only one carriage 😂? The longer the more profit you can get because with similar expenses you can deliver more and get more payments.

this applies in real life too, hence the prevalence of Precision Scheduled Railroading. It's a nightmare in pretty much every department besides corporate profits though.

While it's true that trains with more carriages means more profit, you have to balance that with the weight of the carriages, and the power of the locomotive. Adding too many carriages can result in a train that doesn't have the power to pull the load.

As someone who has played the Transport Fever series since inception, you would be thoroughly missing out by not completing the campaign - and the things you learn are crucial for a fun (and profitable) free play series. After the first chapter, you get lots more freedom with how you complete the missions and the detailing is beautiful; I think those suggesting a leap to free play fear more of the same style of very intense guidance from the tutorial, which is absolutely not the case. Playing the rest of the campaign will be great content and will *greatly* enhance a future free play map.

It's quite interesting to see you play the map upside down. Surabaya is located in East Java while Semarang is in Central Java. The route you made along the northern coast of the island for the sugar mission is somewhat historical, which is also quite interesting. On a side note, I wish that you complete at least the first chapter of the campaign for a sense of closure to this short series. It doesn't have to be done before the free play. Just plop a mission every now and then for the complete 6.

As an Indonesian, I can say that this map is quite realistic (Surabaya should be on the top bc it's north but ok). Although there is no national road on the northern side of java (the campaign takes place on 1880's, decades after Daendels made the famous Anyer-Panarukan national road in 1810's). That's it and I really love the series, keep it up!

Not gonna scroll through all the comments, but when placing roads/tracks, note the little arrow on the side where you accept the placement. You can raise/lower it to keep it as flat as possible, reducing costs, and helping to "respect the topography" even more.

My one piece of advice for this game is to place tracks in sections as long as possible, as the game automatically grades the track with a constant slope between your start and end points. So, placing the track in several short pieces can result in wild grades resembling a rollercoaster more than a realistic rail line. Early in the campaign its not a big deal, but with trains carrying thousands of tons of cargo all those inclines really dampen the performance of a line with the trains constantly slowing down on a climb.

I really enjoy this series. Always had Transport Fever on my steam list but few games are Mac compatible. I sprinted thru the first 3 campaigns. There’s some unique quirks to the game: 1). Having separate platforms how to use one station for passenger and cargo means you basically have two stations and need to adjust line (helps to name the platforms differently) 2). The truck hub has goofy routing so you really gotta pick your platforms. 3). Cargo will only start moving once every piece from the supply to demand is set up, so you gotta check your work. 4). Each train you put than 1 train per line means more signals, sometimes it’s better to have a ton of wagons vs a bunch of trains. Excited to watch the series and play alongside!

I used to love playing this game and its great to see your take on it. With regard to how goods are delivered and used IIRC, you can zoom in on a factory you can see goods building up in the factory's yard and they'll disappear into the factory to process them; this is when it's counted as delivered. Also when the factory produces goods that you're not transporting away, they will be stored in the factory's yard too until you create a line that demands it, then thay start being stoted at your station. This is useful when you have multiple lines transporting the same cargo as you can physically see what is waiting for which line.

If you want to follow the topography better, then built the rail in shorter sections. If you build a long track section, the algorithm will attempt to get the smoothest path, cutting into hills or raising up valleys. The downside though is that your train will struggle going up and down over the shorter sections. Yeah... Ive always wished that the contour map had some finer increments, or the ability to scale the increments according to need. Also, you can get a round indication of the grade of a network section that you are in the process of building by the arrow indicator that appears next to your mouse: No, slight, moderate or extreme inclline/decline.

Phil... I've never really been interested in most TPF2 campaign videos, but YOUR personality and production style does make them very enjoyable! My "vote" would be for you to continue with campaigns to learn a LOT more about the TPF2 game mechanics BEFORE attempting any free play. Why? Well, while you are assured of quickly getting thousands of views for each episode because of WHO you are... KZbin is already saturated with so-o-o many people with very little knowledge of TPF2, making videos demonstrating the wrong way of doing things! Here's hoping you can consider upping your level of expertise and hours in this game before committing to a free play series :) Cheers mate!

During colonial times (until today) Surabaya has 2 main train stations. One of them goes to south area, and the other goes to Semarang through the North Coast Route. Jawa's North Coast is actually flatter than the south, it should be easier to build there. And that area with the "snake goddess temple" is in the mountains (it is actually Bromo-Semeru mountains region not Merapi), and current roads there are atrociously disrespecting the topography 😂

About transportation and colonialism: Recently, in one of my history lectures, we read a text by Mohandas Ghandi and by Karl Marx under the premise of the theory of Multiple Mobilities (Huber 2010). Both reflected on the impact of the railroad on British Raj. It was really damn interesting, seeing those two completely different points of view on the same topic. If someone is interested, you can find the text by Ghandi in his Hind Swaraj, chapter 9 "The condition of India: Railways" and the text by Marx can be found under the title "The Future Results of British Rule in India", published in the New York Daily Tribune on August 8th, 1853.

😊 Hey Phill, are you enjoying the game? 😅 It might be a little confusing in the beginning, keep doing the campaigns for more knowledge, this is gonna be great for you 😉👍 Also I was watching your latest video about CS, so I was thinking, this game is really interesting right? So, I wonder if you could gradually give this game some love, unfortunately people don't really give the deserved attention to this game, so, because of you, your trajectory on this community was and it important, everytime I remember about a city builder, I remember you, because you have became a icon, representating the genre, making good use of it, sharing excellent information, knowledge, and likeable characteristics, you are very important for us... So I wonder if you could give love to this game, and knowledge of the developers behind it, unfortunately we don't get too much information on them, I feel like there's no exact place to see, if not the main website, obviously, Cities Skylines has a lot of open communication with people, so I wonder if you could get in touch with the company, developers, and dig the history behind it and lift the game to a deserving spot, I'm so curious about their projects for this game, it's been few yeasince it released, but I don't know why there's so little communication, or maybe there's but in different languages, when I search videos of the game, there's not many people who speaks English, if they have better information we will never figure out, then I wonder if you're interested in doing a similar thing that you have been doing all these years for Cities Skylines, because we have been seeing the change of interest for people, since CS2 wasn't capable of being that game we wanted, people went back to the first one, people are playing Manor Lords a lot, because they feel disappointed so a new game is always nice, but you are probably very busy with a lot of stuff, I don't know if you're capable of doing something like that, but I think only you could be good for a task like that, you knows how to talk with companies, developers and also with communities, so I was thinking here, you have been playing Transport Fever 2 recently, still getting started, learning, but we're definitely like to see the history about this game, what the company who made it thinks, what they wanted to do, if the game was way more popular, what could they like to do, the current game's goal, updates it had so far, how big their company, how the community help the game, if there's a lack of interest because there's not a lot of people to talk about it, some play this game and quits, some played it whwn it came out and never played again, or showed on their channels, so it could be so important, I feel like you could work your way to get in touch with people who have been playing it for a long time, future collabs, interview with company, developers, or KZbinrs playing this game, in Cities Skylines you have connections with a lot of people, you can get in touch with Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order, and people enjoy your content, so I wonder if you would like to do something like that to rise the popularity of this game that deserves more attention in order to get better, cheer up them to make improvements, shake up the community to breath again, and wake up to get the game some hype, all that work done on Cities Skylines all these years, after some time since they released Transport Fever 2, could it be a good thing to get thme to talk and know more about them? 🤔

I've watched many, many hours of this game as played by _Colonel Failure_ and more recently, _Seniac Two_, so it'll be interesting to see your take on this game, campaign or sandbox. Some time ago, I asked you how this runs on a Steam Deck after you tried C:S on it, and you actually did try it out and reported back 😁 As to this session I did wonder a bit about junking the rail station at the sugar plantation...While I agree with ditching the "practice shuttle", rather than tearing up the whole line I would have just run a rail branch from the passenger line to the freight station and added a train to deliver greater quantities of sugar with greater speed than a horse/buggy. The only other thing needed would be a passing siding midway along the route, and the tutorial already taught you about those earlier in the same campaign.

Seeing how expensive smoothing terrain is, I would suggest (now, mind you, I'm not in any way insisting) that you wait until finances have improved somewhat. Something about perfect and good, but I can't quite remember ...
