Cole from Maine here. love what you did with the forestry industry! Being from Maine, logging is a huge industry here. In Maine, hunting, hiking and snowmobiling are big recreational past times, and often take place in the logging and timber lots that are currently not being cut. There are logging roads that go between the different wood lots for easy access for heavy equipment, and allow for the recreational activities. Would be cool to see this implemented, maybe with adding paths or dirt roads that break up the different trees of different ages, with the odd hunting cabin or camp ground. Often times abandoned and unused rail lines are used as hiking, hunting and snowmobile trails. Maybe an abandoned rail line could be added looking like it once ran through the area before the uses and industries changed. Just a thought to make the area look like it has a richer history and multiple uses. Also, my suggestion for the town name for the new industry area would be Lewiston. Lewis Lumber Company is expanding, and there's a city in Maine called Lewiston that used to be a big mill town, I think it would be a fitting name for Lewis Lumber Company and their new lumber mill and a fun nod to Lewiston Maine.
@powerof9008 ай бұрын
I think a perfect example of the logging roads I'm talking about would be north of Sebec Lake in Maine. Check out google maps. Definitely respecting the topography, branching out like fingers to reach the different wooded areas

Oregonian here. Our forestry companies actually have full time public liaison employees that can be called to see if a particular logging road is open to recreation and what type. In addition to off roading, horseback riding, mountain biking and gravel biking are really popular. All they ask in return is if you report anything that is against their policies. It gives the public a huge amount of recreational area that often connects into national forest and BLM land and gives the forestry company monitoring of remote areas.
@madzap8 ай бұрын
On the soccer field, I would put a tall fence along the goal end that is at the roadway. This does two things, stops balls from landing on cars driving by, and stops kids from dashing in to the road to retrieve a ball when they ultimately miss the goal - don't ask how I know this...
@DuelScreen7 ай бұрын
Yes. That area doesn't feel finished. I'm not sure I like the surface covering the area past the soccer field either but I'm OK with it. Add some fencing for sure. Maybe a hotdog vendor and bathrooms. It's a little too plain and I would be shocked if there wasn't at least a little parking.
@spamfilter327 ай бұрын
The fence isn't necessary. I live right next to a soccer field that has the goal line but up against a high frequency residential (though low density) road and has no fence. It has never been a problem. The fence would be expensive to maintain, and would limit access to the park grounds.
@skyechimes6585 ай бұрын
@@spamfilter32we have “backstop” style fencing for a lot of our fields. So it’s still fully accessible because the high fence is only directly behind the end of fields. It’s less expensive to maintain than hedges, and cuts the city rec departments liability insurance costs by more than enough to offset the cost of maintaining anyway.
@spamfilter325 ай бұрын
@skyechimes658 the field near my home has no fence at all. But there is greenspace between the field and the road. Maybe 15-20 feet. So maybe that is considered enough buffer to keep kids from running out onto the street without being seen? I don't know, but there is another park I drive past occasionally that has 4 soccer fields and also no fence at all.

Do not remove the surface! Trees take up a LOT of resources from the soil. As a matter of fact, most forest's soil are really poor in nutrients (hence why most dense forests have no grass). The soil turns more brown-ish and eventually, some sort of humus is manually added so it becomes more favourable for the industry And for the new district, what about "Lewis New Grounds"? Lastly, the tour is better! I appreciated it, really 😊 Edit for the people: goddamn it, I mean the first 10m of soil is very poor to sustain grass, not only due to the forest casting shadows, but for the trees stealing most of the nutrients for themselves

Another commenter mentioned this: The soccer field being at a lover grade could be a feature. In my area we have turned a lot of overflow (from retention/flood ponds) into soccer/football fields. Since they are for "hundred year" floods/flash storms they rarely have water so they are the perfect place for practice/neighborhood fields. Great video as always!

Big big fan of the new city tour. Not just because of the "more intimate" approach, but also the lack of cuts. It was smoother and let us appreciate the space you created much more. That said, I do like how the older city tours contrast the nature of the change. So maybe there's a way to bring in both? The zoomed in views without jarring cuts, but still some overlays and cross fades to show old into new? Also, strong agree on keeping the surface for the tree farm.

Gorgeous build. One small and unreasonable ask of the fame devs would be if some parks, e.g., soccer pitches, could be terrain conforming. Being from a hilly rural area, I’m used to parks conforming to the land. My childhood soccer games were played on pitches on a literal hillside - the teams would switch sides regularly in every match so everyone got a turn at the downhill slope advantage 🙂 would be a fun little thing to have for realism’s sake.

Comments/Questions/Concerns: The line tool and forest age thing looks REALLY nice. Makes the whole industrial area look very neat while maintaining a bit of a natural look. The Cargo Rail thing is actually kinda genius, though. Someday you'll get railroads to work as intended first try! 34:33- bump in the rail line? -Fire Industry- You already know about this, so this is a gentle reminder before Myrtle takes her Park back. Remember you'll need both ground and air support for all those trees and industry buildings. Phil, are you ok? You took away all the lighting from the soccer field and the park. What happened to Safety Phil? Anyways, I think it would be natural that Lewis Lumber had a nod in the new zone's name. Maybe one of the family's first names? Also, I would think they might name a road after Chuckles as thanks for bringing this opportunity to them. Last concern- You did address a comment about the obstruction of James' view in the comments for the last video, but didn't fix it in this one. Too much on your mind? As always, a pleasure to watch you design and build according to a story. Thanks, CPP!

Either make it lower level as a flood basin (commonly seen in Nova Scotia) or you'll want to add high fencing behind the nets so there's less chance of a ball heading into traffic. If this was just a community field I'd keep the lights off but since the asset looks so polish with the lines I think the lights would be great for youth and rec leagues to use as well

Recognizing your history with wildfire and ever present concern with Myrtle, why not adopt more of a FireSmart program approach and landscape with buffer zones between fuel sources and structure? It would be more challenging to find appropriate landscaping but would introduce people to the program which has is a huge resource for folks living within that urban wildlife interface. Just a thought sir, again, I love this channel. Keep it up!

I loved what you did with the city tour. I was gonna ask if you'd ever thought of just uploading a video that was just a tour. Then we could really get a person eye view of your great builds.

Hi Phil! As I understand, forestry trees are planted following the topography of the ground, not necessarily following straight lines.

Hey Phil, love the series. There should be a fence around the soccer park. Kids would run after there ball into traffic.

Lewis on the Wold, or Myrtuswald perhaps. In old English, Wald was the Saxon word for forest, and it often was changed to 'Wald' instead. The Lewis prefix is for the company of course, and Mytrus is a genus of plants, but also the origin of the name Myrtle.

Hey Phil, an interesting fact. Forests like this are sometimes planted to follow contour lines. Look up "fingerprint forest" to learn more. I think doing it that way would be respecting the topography no? ;)

I really like "The Devil is in the Details" - it might be your best work yet! (also really like "Moving it with Q") The city tour was great! I love it when you get down into first-person view...it's such a stark difference in how the city looks vs. the usual top-down. Lebanon is a great place name for a lumber industry considering that "the cedars of Lebanon" have been famous since antiquity. I think that "Millwood" would be an obvious (punny) name for the new area, but maybe too boring? The lumber area could use more "access" roads both for added realism and...well...you know. Try running them between two differently sized sections that are far from existing roads. In Maine, the access roads will have tiny saplings on one side and mature pines on the other.

I would probably fence in the soccer field - I know that that wouldn't be a street that carries a ton of traffic, but I still think that there would be the danger of balls and players ending up in the middle of the road.

I would have renamed bend hills by paying homage to the cliffs of Dover. Bend Dover Hills!

One way to prevent trains to get stuck on traffick, is to add one or two railways to rural areas, where trains can stop and wait for other train to pass. They are usually located in plases in middle of nowhere.

This is probably my favorite video in this series. Don't forget about fire coverage though!
