I was playing this a created a new game and I'm calling ALL roads lead to Rome. So, the only route that any airport can have is a single route to Rome. I have unlocked almost the entire world and somehow, it actually works well enough. And yes, that does mean if you live in New York and want to go to LA, you have to get a lay over in Rome. If you live in London and want to go to Manchester, you have to go to Rome first. If you live in Sydney and want to go to Auckland, you HAVE to go to Rome first.

You can use the Capitals as central Airport for that particular country and then interconnect capitals as much as you can. Adding 3 or more tier 2 planes between routes also help a lot.

Dude, as a proud Pueblan i can tell you those 1h and 45m driving to CDMX are a nightmare, traffic, fog, going up and down through the mountains, it's an incredibly scenic ride, i highly recommend it for the experience, but doing it everytime gets annoying.

That's less far than Montreal-Quebec, and that's only a 3 hour drive, although driving through Montreal is hell. There is the train though, but the flight is only like 45 minutes give or take 5.

one tip: you should always link up capitals, because there is a chance in those events you can get a supersonic jet flying between them, and it only appears for routes from a capital to another capital
