I live 17 miles from Sandersville GA in a town called Wrightsville. Have family that lives in Sandersville. James Gregory is a southern legend! Got to see him perform live in Dublin GA a few years ago. He passed away about 2 or 3 weeks ago. He will be missed.

He is absolutely an untapped gem. He never got mainstream because he was afraid to fly so most of his shows were only down south that was within driving distance. Things to checkout from him include flying, animal rights, and going to a truckstop with his younger counterparts. Those are his best.

I'm 68 years old and have been experiencing this since I can remember and that was about when i was 7. i had 7 aunts and two uncles growing up. I only have 1 aunt left and she will be 99 next month. It's not a language problem---it's geography. If she's from southern US, she's an ant. Britain, Australia, India and parts of New England, she's an aunt. An ant helps you get away with stuff your mother disapproves of. An aunt criticizes your mother for not training her kids properly.

I realized all the way back in elementary school that all of my southern white family and friends said "ant" but all my southern black friends said "auntie', without fail. As an adult it seems to me that all northerners say "aunt" independent of race. Oh, and he is spot on with this.

👸I've been to Sandersville a bunch of times, not counting driving from Savannah to Helen. James is from Lithonia, Ga, which I'm sure you know where it is. I've had dinner with James after one of many times I've seen him. He played in a small club that was here in the late 80s and early 90s. Funny gut even off stage, and yes, that is his real accent, unlike a certain celebrity chef from Savannah. I can also tell you why he never married or had kids thar wouldn't go over well in most Georgia. But it made him happy so it never bothered me.
