I cut my new tow truck apart!

Since this particular rollback tow truck is an equipment spec truck that originally had much bigger tires on it, the angle of the bed and its stabilizer foot didn't line up anymore and I had to remove it to prevent damage to customers driveways. So today I got out the cutting torch and put on a leather jacket in 100 degree heat so I didn't melt my ostomy bag, then did a little redneck re engineering to modify it to work for my application

Casey.. It's also used for pissing off all the truck drivers in chain up areas! Nothing beats rolling up in a chain up zone, lifting the drivers of the ground while onlooking "truck drivers" stare at you with complete disgust for the 60 seconds it takes you to pull the chains...🤣😂🤣

Two factors were utilized to make these modifications to your truck. One is a for real word, experience. The second is a made up word thar has been around for as long as I can remember but wasn't used for a long time. It was brought to mind when I began watching Fab Rats channel; Paul Cox used it, "Eyecrometer". Some folks have a very accurate eyecrometer, others do not. You used your years of experience as a welder, took stock of the parts that you had to work with, then using your eyecrometer you were able to make the needed revisions to your truck bed. Good work young man. I understand your humbleness, and it's great that you don't let your head swell up. Yet sometimes in your self-deprecating way you don't take due credit for your creative thinking. You did good young man.

I noticed a Coleman canoe. We had a canoe/camping bus. in the late 70s., early 80's. I don't remember how many Coleman canoes we saw on the rivers, busted up. Colemans early models did not have UV tolerant vinyl nor vinyl on the inside. The ABS was very vulnerable to sun damage and they busted up rather easily. We sold a brand called "Blue Hole" out of TN, fiberglass "??" out of Indianapolis, Grumman Alum for a while, and then Alumacraft out of Minnesota. We were white water nuts and ran rivers all over the eastern side of the Mississippi.

Might look at a Nomex wildland fire shirt to leave on the fire trailer would be another inopportune time to melt a hole in bag. You've got a very nice piece of land there! Something like that would be prohibitively expensive here in the Netherlands (think 600+ dollar per square yard!). Cool that you had the luxury of changing job to not be as uncomfortable during work! Also very nice that you have the skill and the tools from your previous job to do little projects like that yourself, in your own workshop. Learned a new English term: scarfing tip! Thank you! :-) I thought 220V was something for this side of the big pond, not the standard US 110 voltage. How come you have 220V in your house? Is that the US equivalent of our 230/400V electricity system? Just wondering: Why aren't there little wheels at the bottom of the back of the rollback platform to prevent it from scratching the driveway/pavement?

I may have missed something but it seems to me that wearing your leather gear would be a good idea, illyostomy(sp) bag or not. A spark hot enough to melt through your shirt and the bag might not be so great on the skin either or do pro welders become immune to burning sparks..... Just my 2 cents. The job came out great. Looks like your eye-crometer is working just fine. 👍

@CaseyLaDelle 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the normal sparks and spatter from a welder or grinder become no big deal and get to be barely noticable on your skin, but will absolutely put holes in thar bag. Unless I was doing overhead stick welding, I would never wear those leathers when it's 100 degrees out

Many of my work trousers have holes in them after cutting and not small ones eighter, but the worst was probably when I was welding under a car that was so low I couldn't turn around, and with a greasy shirt I should have been able to figure it out what had to happen! I saw something orange on the side of the welding helmet before I realized my whole arm had burned up! Luckily, I smothered the fire and didn't even get red in the skin from the flames, but I also have amazing skin that can withstand most things! Am often too lazy to go and check the electrical cabinet, so I often poke the cord to know if it is powered, for example, it works fine with 230 V but 400 V wants to cause some burns which I don't care about! Actually, anyone with a healthy heart can handle up to a second of current before it becomes dangerous, so I'm much more careful that splice cables are intact as our 50 Hz alternating current happens to be the same frequency that the muscles are controlled by and if you cramp a splice cord, it's a little chance that you will have time to run so that the plug comes loose under a second of time...

Good morning Casey. I was wondering if putting a receiver on that stabilizer would end up affecting the rams with the weight that you may carry especially bouncing up and down going down the highway. Maybe trying to find a adjustable or removable receiver in the original place onto the frame maybe a better option. They have those adjustable receivers and you can pull the vertical adjustment all the way out until needed so you get your clearance when lowering your flatbed.
@CaseyLaDelle
@CaseyLaDelle 2 жыл бұрын
Those rams are far beyond big enough to hold any trailer I could put on there. Keep in mind that bed is rated to hold 15k, and that whole setup is designed to lift the truck and it's full load
@antf5565
@antf5565 2 жыл бұрын
@@CaseyLaDelle I definitely get that. Those Rams I'm sure could hold the weight... but constant weight on the hydraulic ram rather than resting on a stable surface may affect it down the line. Similar to your flatbed it can lift the vehicle but the bed eventually rest on the chassis in transit and is not reliant on the ram after the fact. That movement of going down the highway may affect the Rams down the line. You may have several thousands of pounds of tongue weight reliant on the hydraulic seals to keep it orientated in that position while hitting bumps and potholes at high speeds. I definitely love the idea of an adjustable height receiver though. Absolutely love your work and ingenuity. Enjoying your Channel. I would love to applaud how thorough you are, expressing every step along the way. It is truly appreciated.
