The best interpretation for my money. Patti presents her as a woman on a mission to gain power, not as a sex kitten. I don't know why some people were laughing; her message is bone-chilling.
@musicaltheatergeek7910 жыл бұрын
They're laughing because she's presenting herself as being demure and modest: "There's nothing calculated, nothing planned" "Please forgive me if I seem naive" "I don't always rush in like this 20 seconds after saying hello" But the audience already knows that she's calculated and determined, since they've watched her use Magaldi and others in her quest for stardom. Likewise, she's doing the same with Peron.

Patti sounds great everywhere.

Patti ruined this role for any other actress to follow, in my opinion. She was powerful and perfect. Recent Eva’s are all shrill and screaming their way through and play Eva soft and blah. The original staging and direction is still fantastic and thrilling! The newer stagings are muddled and so boring and ruin this wonderful show!

Wow a bootleg of this. I really hope they show the professionally recorded show

What are those spots doing. I would’ve sawed off my arm to spot this show. Lol could you imagine if stage crew was this unprofessional on broadway today? Lol only in the 80s

YOU MEAN AT 3:51? The crowd is frozen during the song and then go off stage - not spots.

Forgive my ignorance, but why is the stage so rough looking?

To each their own but this sounds like something from Vaudeville. No passion. No Latín Romance. Not hating Lupone but she’s overrated when it doesn’t sound like she’s singing from the heart.

Art Castaneda The point of this song isn't about passion, at least in my opinion. The point is, that sometimes single minded manipulation and pragmatism (which Eva sings about) wins out. It's basically a deal- with no passion at all. The tune deceives us, and I think that's the point. This production particularly leaned heavily on the cynicism of the power play within relationships. As the short coda at the end reminds the audience "There is no one at all...who hasn't an eye on in fact they rely on, tricks they can try on their partner...they're hoping their lover will help them or keep them, support them, promote them. Don't blame them. You're the same." Very brechtian.

Sam she didn't show any "passion" in this song because she was playing Peron. She was trying to act demure and helpful. Playing up to him. Passion is in other songs like A New Argentina

I agree with both responses to this post. There was no romantic passion in their relationship. The only passion here was sexual on Peron's part and Eva's need to show everyone that she wasn't just a poor little country girl full of resentment because her middle class father never made her family visible to others. Eva's mother was his mistress and he had a whole other family with her. Peron was virtually a playboy and most often a pedophile and Eva was only interested in using her female charms to get all the power she could.

Mmm Madonna did it too much better! Despite i don't like Madonna.

I agree! And I'm not a Madonna fan but I loved her in Evita!

That was a film, not on stage - let's see her on the stage. At the same time on film Patti may not have carried it off as well - not for the singing but pure aesthetic.

I saw both the movie and the play, and the movie was far superior…yes, Patti has an impressive voice, but the staging of the play was minimalist and depressing. On the other hand, Madonna was the better actor and actually channeled Eva Perón. Some elderly Argentinian neighbors who saw the real Eva Perón also confirm that she uncannily nailed it.
@rmp74002 жыл бұрын
Madonna would be pleased to hear of your enthusiasm for her.

Again, put Madonna on the stage and much of that disappears, I like the movie as well and thought she was great but I don't compare the two - look at the other Eva Peron films then.
