Memories of when I was in my late teens (I'm now 69) - after hitting the bars, we would head over to this Donut Shop in Rexdale ON. Where I played the hell out of this song on their Juke Box. The owner had to replace this single twice! Good days, R.I.P. Alvin Lee

The song was supposed to be a dig at protester singer/songwriters who never accompanied the masses they stirred. But it was so good that the dig got buried in the beauty of its rendition. Oh yeah, and arguably the best guitar solo in history. 1971, Fort Lewis, Washington...my drill sergeant played this over the loudspeakers as we lunged, plunged and parried during bayonet training. Good times.

Might be that it not gets more relevant, but because of the internet inhumanity is coming more aware and these lyrics catch the motives of most of those behaviour. Came here after the movie Minamoto (a must watch, terrific performance of Mr. Depp) , and at the end they sum up (only a small part of) all kind of disasters 'nobody' is responsible for. Especially in the centuries after WWII economy has become the goal instead of the appliance for companies.

Alvin Lee, may he rest in peace, basically blew the roof off the old international amphitheater in Chicago. That was in 1978, to be precise. The old cow palace is gone now, but that was arguably one of the best concerts I've seen. Especially when the encore that they played was good morning little school girl. They were on fire that night.

I haven’t listened to this song in decades and now realize the lyrics could be a hard right anthem with some homage to the god of libertarianism thrown in for good measure. Interesting that if this were released today it would be considered hateful and divisive. All of the comments on this song speak to to it's power. As David Byrne might say "same as it ever was". We keep revisiting the same injustices. The impediments to living a life without inequality, hate and prejudice. Will the human race ever wake up and realize there is another way. Value everyone and work together. We can make a better world or continue on the path to destruction.

The song is obviously more relevant today than ever as we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again. It was originally written as a reaction to then ongoing war in Vietnam and the follies it entailed. Not that we have learnt anything better today.
@maf54546 ай бұрын
I'd like to say we didn't learn anything form the last 50 years, but I think we did. Those people making these important decisions like war, money and that sort of thing know better, they don't care. They are making lots of money and that makes it OK, for them. The rest of us have to pay the bill, directly, or indirectly depending on who you are and that bill never will get payed in full, ever. Be well and safe peace to you and yours.

What i can't figure out is why everyone remarks that this song is still relevant today. Why wouldn't it be? Has the world changed? This song was relevant 6000 years ago as it is today. Has humanity's nature changed, truly changed at all? We are in a loop, cycling over and over. Good is evil. Evil is good Good is good. Evil is evil. Good is evil. Evil is good. On and on it goes where it stops only YHWH knows. Those who are ignorant of the past are doomed to repeat it. This endless battle for power & control. Left vs right Red vs blue Haves vs not Man vs woman Black vs white Ahhh... the way they pit us against eachother while laughing in their anonymity. The puppet masters pulling our strings. I say do your worst as you have always done for i am still here and YHWH's Will be done. See ya in Armageddon!
