Even after the atrocities of world war 2, Germany and France came together, agreed that war is never the solution and that the next war would annihilate Europe, and formed (the first version of) the EU, even after what Germany did to the French just a few years before. However, I'm afraid that something similar is very difficult to achieve with the Palestinians and Israel.

I'm from Texas and must say how much I enjoy listening to James O'Brien. I quite enjoy his older interviews where he puts up a mirror so that people are confronted with themselves and they hate the image they see. January 6th puts former President Donald Trump into the "must never be in public office again" category. I'm 38 and have voted for Republicans and Democrats, some enthusiastically. But the Republicans have completely left reality. Kicking out the moderates, that are mostly straight voting Republicans, for the crazies.

@andrew66862 I'm frequently reminded of Tommy Lee Jones from Men in Black "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it." When you can just talk to one person, similarities shine much brighter than differences. It's also important to remember thst you aren't capable of changing someone's mind. They have to do that within themselves, sometimes with a seed or two you may have planted in their minds.

Then still the question would be: Which Palestine ? The terrorist Hamas one ? The corrupt Abbas one, which even the palestinian people don't believe in anymore? At the moment it would just be another unstable state in an unstable region with too many players on the field on both sides of the aisle, that feed off on that unstable situation. Getting rid of Netanyahu by voting him out may help some, but I'm not too optimistic even if.

The US election is about three states: Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, ignore the other 47. Worse than that, it's only about certain areas in these states. The margins in these states in 2016 was this: Michigan: 10,704 votes Pennsylvania: 44,292 votes Wisconsin: 22,748 votes That's the margin Trump won by. This is what it takes to win the US election. Forget about everything else, go to these states, see who they want and give them that, no matter who it is. It could be Jeffrey Dahmer, give them who they want. Lastly, they don't care about the next four years, only the election. Approach it like a penalty shoot out.

The old"Israel is a democracy " chestnut. Apartheid South Africa was a democracy, The US during slavery and later, segregation was a democracy, and Britain during the days of colonialism was a democracy. So what??????
@CountScarlioni
@CountScarlioni 20 күн бұрын
So what? It means the democratic process and the voice of the people can play a significant part in shaping a country's actions and attitudes. Democracies are historically far more likely to adapt to change over time. For instance, South Africa no longer has Apartheid, the US no longer has slavery and Britain is no longer a colonial power. Israel can adapt and change to accept the presence of an independent Palestinian state.

@@iandall9570 Democracies always leave open the chance that the people can change the course of their nation. If they didn't there'd be no point to them. No change is guaranteed for the better, and democracies can fail (as we've witnessed in Russia). I've never heard of a better system of government though and if you know one then please do tell us! In South Africa and Northern Ireland, democracy did finally win out. The trouble with Israeli and Palestine of course is the repeated cycles of false dawns and I've lived long enough to see a few of those. All I'm sure of right now is that Netanyahu and his cronies have got to go. Nothing can improve whilst he remains in office.

@charlesreid9337 you see Charles that's the problem. Some people focus more on the theater than the performance. If you just put up blind resumes of legislative accomplishments as President, President Joe Biden has outperformed most Presidents, and of the 46 he's somewhere in the top 15-5 range, depending on how you value the impact of the actions. I really do think people see that more than you'd think. Maybe not enough voter turnout to flip Texas, but boy I hope my country is wiser now than to give than man responsible for January 6th another shot at it.

As one of the architects of the mess that has been created in the state of Israel, I think we Brits should just stay out of this. Yes it is appropriate to voice dismay at the situation as it develops, but no we have no say. Like him or loathe him, Netanyahu is the democratically elected leader of Israel. The Israeli people voted him into office. If they don't want him or don't think he has their best interests at heart, they will let him know. we need to be clear that a " 2 state solution" may be fair if it is from the river to the sea but unfortunately it generally refers to a section of the west bank and gaza. Please be clear that 7 Oct was a response to decades of repression and dispossession of Palestinians following the 'oslo" decision.

The thing that people forget when the Biden deterioration thing is talked about is that Trump himself has had hundreds of these moments when his mental decline has been on display, everyone is acting like he wasn’t campaigning against President Obama a couple of months ago when he forgot who the president was.
