I am part of an autism-group, we desperately needed help with new supervisors. A lady arrived and during her intake she looked upset and scared. We tried to make her feel better by being nice, seemed to only make it worse. She got the job, we liked her right away. She emailed back that she had only done this, because she had to seek jobs, for her benefits. In reality, she had severe arthritis and couldn't even sit or hold her bag properly without pain. She apologized and said she felt awful, because we visibly were in dire need of new helpers and the clients had been enthusiastic about the idea of having her as their new caretaker. It's so mean to put both of us through it, when there is absolutely no need for it.

All I can say is, if you have never been in a situation like this - then you really are extremely fortunate. Being long-term unemployed and unwanted by society would have to be the most soul destroying things to have to go through, especially when you live in a country with so much wealth.

Not just UK this is very much the same in the US too with 'disability' at least the UK has the NHS. Also similar traits of how people 'accepting or asking.' Also how the politics of exclusion actually work in real life. In UK its the 'underclass' in US its the 'welfare queen' even folks who life on benefits still cannot get jobs and they become trapped. There are strong correlations between disability and poverty.

1. The scenes are totally realistic, and there's worse. 2. I blackmailed a work programme provider into not sanctioning me, I caught them faking induction tuition results, charging the government for a day, but doing ten minutes, which was copying the answers to the test in your own handwriting. 3. It is correct there is an underclass and a swathe of people trained to rely on manipulating the state and society to live. 4. The reason is not so much the benefit system its a. Work.. Most jobs don't compete financially with benefits b. Housing associations are ringing the state and keeping house prices and rents vastly unaffordable. The state sponging is by business, not people.

@Mike Foxtrotter The last Labour government ran the country far better than this. Things worked fairly well.

@Mike Foxtrotter Nothing is ever perfect. We didn't have food banks , a failing NHS ,a failing care system ,rail strikes , nurse strikes , postal strikes, kids dying from mould , hungry kids at school , really high food prices , really high gas prices, really high petrol prices, no dentists etc.

Sadly the movie is still a reality, not just in the UK but across the world, Centrelink in Australia is a horrible system, if I didn't have to deal with them; I wouldn't be suicidal.

Same here in New Zealand. MSD can be a Shitty system. Had one new Case Manager who bent over backwards to provide me with Food Alowances everyweek. Said " Your Situation is deems it nessacary to get help with food everyweek" But then i had to change Managers as he was being moved to another Case Load. New Case Manager was like "You can afford to guy food on $62 per week for 3 Adults" And when my Budget Adviser sent her the Budget she said oh see it shows in you're Budget you have $200 for Food everyweek And my Budget Adviser was Pissed and said she Dosent know how to Read A Budget Sheet and needs to be Fired lol

Watched the film forvthe first time this evening. Many of the things it portrays i can attest to from personal experience. It helps, actually, to find a reflection ofvthat experience on film; Ken Loach has done victims of the benefit ideology a great service. Thankbyou Ken, and thank you to this channel for the commentary.

The other thing is is that there'll be people in far worse hardship than the characters portrayed in the film I Daniel Blake. And probably worse now than when the film was released. Also you can see how people may end up committing crime of sorts from being pushed into this situation. In the film Katy attempts shoplifting and gets caught and then ends up going onto selling her body. It's a great film but a shitty situation in portrayal. Well done to you though for uploading

This is one of the most precious contribution on the whole youtube uk: a clear explanation of the discrepancies between the rethoric of media about the unemployed and the actual welfare system.
