I actually was able to hold a World Record on one of the german stages for about a month, and one thing i learned at the end is that in order to get to those times, you are either braking as much as the car will allow you to without overreving the engine or locking up the tires, and on throttle there is only maximum Bananas, and if the tires don't grip up right away you already lost time, it took me 3 days an several mental breakdowns before keeping a run together, and that was on tarmack, which i would consider to be a bit easier in the Group B monsters
@savereport87882 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean. Best placement i got was i think Nr 15 with the evo (top 100 on most courses in most classes) and its even more of that with the Keyboard i can tell ya. "Hey guys, DiRT Rally admin here" 😏 This was a great attempt! Your biggest challenge was in the leaderboard you chose to beat. New Zealand is a base-game location and Group B is a base-game car class, both of which are ultra competitive. In addition, New Zealand is one of the trickier stages due to the narrowness of the roads. Still though, wht Top 100 pace there, you could get a World Record on quite a few other places, at least for a little while. Try out some Wet weather leaderboards, or ones on DLC locations (All the DIRT Rally 1 locations + Scotland), or in a DLC car class (Group B RWD, 2000cc 4WD, F2 KitCar) and that #1 is certainly achievable. 👍

I don't understand this comment section at all, so many comments echoing the same 'top of the leaderboards are all sweaty nerds with cuts and cheap tricks'. I competed in both World Series events and got to the quarter finals in both iterations. This stage was part of one of the qualifiers and literally nobody cut this course anywhere and they would've if it gained any time. That dumb nascar bank gains basically no time and it's risky to get a proper exit with it. Show me the cheap tricks, cuts and weird 'rock bounces' or wall bounces people are talking about because there is nothing special on this stage. His driving was alright but he went wide a lot meaning he never got the power down early enough from what I was able to see between the jump cuts in the editing. I love his videos but some of the viewers really do think that if he cannot get close there must be some sort of reason, well this time the reason was that he just was not very fast.
@zackster16972 жыл бұрын
Biggest thing holding you back, specifically on this stage, is your lack of using shortcuts. The inside cliff of the corner at 7:21 can be used as a bank to both shorten the distance traveled and carry more speed. All things considered the last run would have been top 100 if these skips didn't exist.
@varyagace2 жыл бұрын
This is what I've been thinking the entire video. His run WAS fast, but the fastest guys are driving this game as if it was Trackmania. Finding every single possible cut and shortcut they can utilise to shorten the distance. If you don't know these, you will be a few seconds short every time.

When it comes to stage records, the suspension and gearing setup make a _massive_ difference. You can look at the leader's setup and watch their replay for an idea of what you need to do to get top times.
@mack46912 жыл бұрын
I didn't know the suspension was that integral. Any tips or principles for setting that up?
@RavenRedwood2 жыл бұрын
@@mack4691 in my experience configuring suspension is a similar process to gearing (or even like setting steering degree on tarmac) you essentially want to have the travel and springs set for the max load the car will experience on that stage; any more 'give' than what is necessary just reduces precision and control. (use your judgement of course, for example if the stage has a section with deep ruts do I really need to sacrifice stiffness for that to keep speed or can I find a good line without loosing control?) If the game supports it you can use the telemetry data on your best run as a guide for what you need to adjust. Unfortunately if the game doesn't have replay data you'll just have to experiment, which is why checking the leader's setup can save some time, just note that camber/toe can also make a big difference but since it's more of a driver's preference, the leader's settings may not suit your style 👍

I remember I held a world top 40 time in the 2000cc category thanks to an (for me) unbelievable run with the Fabia WRC in Monte Carlo... for like 3 days before I started falling behind. Granted my setup and skill are average-low, but people are absolutely crazy when it comes to this game. If DR 3.0 or however the next game is called includes better online functionalities, it will be a classic for sure

One of my proudest sim racing achievements is getting a world record on dirt rally II. I got it on the Jagodino stage of the polish rally in the lancia 037. I even did it on the wet game setting.

I feel like longer gear ratios get you a better time. Almost like you don't lose power on wheels by stretching gears. Try it

Te Awanga Sprint was the first and only course I've cracked top 25 on in Dirt Rally 2. Fun mix of slow and mid speed corners. I've put the car in a tree so many times in the final sector it still haunts me.

On another note, those stages around that hilly light-gravel area is so much fun to slide around in DR2

This game gets nutty at the higher ends of the leaderboard. Highest I got was on GP3R. I was a few spots off of top 50. Tuning is the biggest part of getting that high as well as just sitting there and doing more laps

Not trying to be a smart-head, but fiddling with suspension settings is the last thing to do. First adjust gearing, as it impacts your time the most. Check how often you use top gear and if you flat-out while using it. If not, shorten the gears. In rally driving it's not as much of carrying speed into the corner, as maximizing exit acceleration. If your "usual" experience is track racing, forget it and brake in advance, choosing early pivot, not "perfect" if racing on tarmac. Second adjustment would be brakes. On loose surfaces I would recommend softening the brakes so you could use full brake gradient with control, not just 0-1 braking. Suspension and differentials are nice to fine-tune, but they provide you with more stability and easier handling. It's icing on the cake so to say.

Kiwi here, Māori uses the same vowel sounds as Spanish (a like in cAr, e like in Egg, I like the e in mE, o like in bOre, u like oo in moo) and gs are always soft. So if I'm trying to write it phonetically for a British accent... probably something like "Teh-ah-wung-ah" (wung rhyming with sung)

It took me nearly 200 hours on the same map to be in the top 15 (knowing I havve almost 1500 hours on the game), so what you did in one day is really impressing
