I completely agree with the “Permatex” brand anti-seize on the aluminum body for adjustment but, the Torrington bearing will suffer less unless using a High Temp PTFE brake grease from ACDelco, simply because it is clear and not blue! The anti-seize compound has metals of copper, aluminum or zinc in high temp applications. For a bearing, just plain grease is best. Use wheel bearing grease if needed, the adjusting nut needs an anti-seize for galvanic action of dissimilar metals so it can be adjusted or serviced. DK. ASE Master Tech since 78, retired.

Need to make a video of the dual battery setup for when you run off-road lights.
@rickw41603 жыл бұрын
Nobody needs dual batteries for running lights anymore. They all LEDs. Just for winches. And fridges.
@rickw41603 жыл бұрын
I'm saying that new led lights use significantly less power than incandescent. 42" triple row light bars are like 600w. Old hella Incandescent we're often 100w each. Regular headlights are like 35-55w. A 65a alternator will easily put up with that. Your in Montana and obviously crazier winters. But your fan mostly isn't running if it's that cold. If you have a high compression motor that's when you need big battery reserves to crank it over.
@frostbite19913 жыл бұрын
just a quick tip, you use a brass punch and hammer to tighten the lock ring up on coilovers. Spanners alone dont quite get it tight enough. Can vibrate loose after a while. That extra shock from hammering them help them to bite into the adjustment ring and lock it in place. Loving the build so far though. Been tossing around the idea of either SAS or coilover swap my 03 2500HD.

That's a trick upgrade. Gives the vehicle a nice stance. Seems chock-full of engineering compromises though. Particularly the upper mount where the two bolts that pass through the frame are literally right next to each other. This requires drilling two half-inch holes through the frame in close proximity. I would have liked to have seen much heavier weld-in mounts.

Just my two cents. I'd feel better putting sleeves through the frame and weld them in and then run the bolts through and install that upper mount. Other than that I'd say that's a sweet upgrade for replacing the torsion bar setup.
@Ryan_19973 жыл бұрын
@Dansyoutube does not weaken the frame if the fabricator only welds a small section. If to much heat is be applied then MAYBE. But depends on what’s being welded and or cut/removed. The frame front to back is reinforced by the braces(cross lower rad support, and the rear) The mounts for the upper shocks won’t cause any type of frame damage if welded. I wouldn’t stick weld the mounts, preferably mig/flux, 2 passes 140amps, full prep, zero purosity. Let cool after each pass, don’t over heat the section of the frame. Call it a day…

Top coil retainers sheared off the shock mount(welded them back). Heim joints developed play. One shock was internally damaged(c/r knobs stopped working). I have had issues after every camping trip I’ve been on. I can see where they suffice for driving on smooth roads, but still undersized if you hit a pothole etc IMO. JD fab utilizes much larger and stronger components that are adequate for these heavy trucks. These appear more suited for a smaller/lighter vehicle. Hope I could help.
