The Yanmar Mini Excavator is well designed and engineered for the tight spaces in Japan (especially in traditional Japanese cities)! Japanese companies do excellent jobs with their products/tools, taking into account constraints (including space). Looking at the increasing popularity of Kei cars & trucks, I believe that this Yanmar Mini Excavator will become popular at construction sites in other countries.

Everything about this renovation is exciting. I also loved the renovation of your other house. But what's very interesting for me is, that such small excavators exist. We've got a narrow way on the side of our house to the garden and wanted to do something about the landsape, but the landscaper said there is no way a machine would fit through the passage and everything would have to be done by hand, which would be very expensive. Now I know there is another way :)

I actually think the waste disposal costs are quite reasonable, Is it ¥40,000 Yen, especially if it’s sorted and disposed in a thoughtful manner to avoid a massive toxic waste areas. ideally materials would be repurposed as much as possible as you seem to do which is great. do they have mini “waste skip bins” in Japan where you can fill up and a truck picks up for you. I really enjoy your diary style content, so entertaining thank you

Looking forward to where this goes! As it sounds like you have some familiarity with construction / renovation: Is there anything in particular that you're going to do different in Japan to account for earthquakes, that you wouldn't have had done in Sweden? Also, are you roping in friends from your modelling career to help with your renovation? Jonathan also looks like he could be a model!

Great video Anton - can you please explain more about the details of these houses you can't 'tear down' completely? Can you ever renovate the exterior walls or must it be interior changes only - what if the old walls are rotten? Can you add height to the house? Are you in the process of doing lots of projects like this as a business? Are you renting these out? Thanks and I'll be watching!
@Ragnar8504
@Ragnar8504 3 ай бұрын
My guess from a European perspective would be that you can renovate as much as you want within the official definition of renovation but if you tore down the house you'd never get planning permission for a new one in the same place. Legally I don't think that's supposed to happen, at least where I live, but it does happen.

Non-rebuildable homes come with the risk of earthquake damage or fire damage. Did you put insurance in place for when these things might happen? It would be sad to see such an investment go to waste. I understand the safety reasons but it's such a shame you can't rebuild the home if you can't repair it anymore. Would you at least be able to sell the land after or how does it work? Anyways, super cool project and excited to see the journey!

6:35 YES, plumbing question, actually more like health concern. Can you legally meet code if you install sinks, tubs and toilets with vented lines to the roof and 'P' traps on the sinks and tubs? Japanese plumbing code still uses 'S' traps for sink and tub drains which are illegal in Canada and the US. I always wondered why they were illegal until I noticed that you almost always get a whiff of sewer gas in homes and businesses in Japan if you are around kitchens and bathrooms. It seems that venting to the roof and using a 'P' trap is far too mendokusai for most so much like the houses that are built with pickup sticks and no grounded consents, the Japanese just forgo proper venting, use 'S' traps and call it a day.
