I really loved this video; the topic is super relevant and I’m super grateful for your honesty and openness. Lettering helps to get out of a funk but it’s definitely not easy to talk about it. Thank you for sharing this and your lettering is amazing. I simply cannot choose a favourite. Keep up with the great work you do. I did a 52 weeks of lettering challenge, which is coming to an end and now I’m definitely starting my own 100 Days of Lettering project. Thanks for the inspiration!

@@kamnak3077 Sometimes I would take inspiration from artworks I like that I found on Instagram and Pinterest. But honestly, most was just a spur of the moment. I just let my creativity flow and did what I felt in the moment. Especially in the second half of the challenge.

Max, what you can do with the simplest of tools is incredible! You are so so so talented, it’s beautiful! Now you set yourself up to a very high standard, your video quality is better than most KZbinr’s out there! I very much liked how you did the sketch of, “own your style” and “Savage Bitch”. I think I’m going to set up a challenge of my own, not 100 days but something to convince myself to do this for me

I did the 100 days of lettering 2 years ago, it made me experience simular things like you, Max. Not always funny things… and at the end there remained a sort of whole in the days after the 100; missed the daily routine. Actually I am facing another scare with a new 100 day-challenge: drawing people (out of imagination); and I‘m about to learn more than I could ever expect!!! Let‘s face more of our scares! they then loose their impact!

I have to say how much I appreciate THIS video. Seeing your 100-day lettering sketches and hearing the thoughts you were having about not being good enough has truly inspired me. What this video has shown me is that even the most talented and creative artist's go through periods of questioning or doubting their creative ability. Sometimes, I'll go on IG to see new lettering content or to get some inspiration from other lettering artist and 9/10 i feel completely defeated and that im not even close to being good enough as alot of the other lettering artist on IG. Anyway, thank you for this video, and thank you for sharing your 100-day lettering sketches. I know that couldn't have been easy. Your video gave me a new outlook on my own creative journey. Thank you for that!
@letteringdaily2 жыл бұрын
You're too kind! Im is so glad that the video inspired you. Avoid comparing yourself to others, it really brings nothing constructive - believe me. You might feel that you're not on the same level as someone who is more experienced and that's ok. But with time and practice, you will improve. Focus on that. That's the whole point of the challenge. To take a deeper look within yourself and find that spark that makes you enjoy the process rather than looking at what others do and feeling bad because of it. I've been there, and all I got from it was a whole bunch of negativity. Not worth your time and energy. If you ever want to talk feel free to shoot me an email or dm on Instagram. :)

Thank you for watching and for the great comment :) Yeah, in an ideal world you could do all 100 days in one hit, but guess what - we don't live in an ideal world :D Pretending that we do puts some unrealistic perspective that kind of holds us hostage and ends up dictating how we feel. Im glad that point resonated with you. The first day i missed i started feeling guilty and beating myself down for it, but then it hit me that this is taking me further away from my original goal.

My fear of failure often keeps me from even starting something like this, but I am game to do it! I feel like a newbie, but love the idea behind just doing it! I am not sure when one of your sketches is my favorite. I loved seeing all the different fonts/styles as well as how you played with flourishes and the overall space of your paper. Way to go for kicking yourself out of the rut and finding joy in putting pencil to paper again! Thanks for sharing!
@letteringdaily2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words Hannah! The fear will remain there as long as you resist it. Sometimes it might manifest more intensively but it will always persist as long as you resist it. That's something this challenge thought me. Im saying this because i had the exact same thoughts. Once i invited the fear and sat with it for a while it started to slowly disappear. When i say sat with it, i mean it literally. Evoking the emotion and observing it without juding it, labeling it good or bad, wanting to get rid of it, etc. It may sound weird, but the more i did it the easier it got. I hope this helps!

This video means so much to me because I didn’t realize other artists that are super passionate and skilled in a certain area also neglect their craft sometimes and depression takes over and can feed into itself. I thought I was strange for not playing piano for days or even weeks (I am primarily a composer) because it’s what I love most in the world. And then I felt very down on myself like something was wrong with me. This makes me feel like it is natural to experience this and gives me a reminder to keep sketching + playing music once a day to keep the depression away. Thank you 💜

Your words ring true for all creative artists! We all know burnout and periods when motivation is absent. I agree with you that you just have to 'start and continue' and the inspiration will return. Pencil to paper is key... or getting to the dance studio, or sitting down at the piano.... Also, I love that you speak of being gentle with ourselves and not setting ourselves up for feelings of inadequacy! No need to post our path for others to comment on. No opinion should be more important to us than our own. We're all on a path and if we're to succeed, we need to throw ego out the window and just keep loving the process! Cheers!

Thank you, im really glad you like the video. You have to learn how to let go. I don't mean that you shouldn't try to learn and improve but instead remove the expectation that you'll create a masterpiece every time you want to draw/create something.
