As an adult it's easy to forget that music is so cliquey when you're a teen. I guess kids, or those with an immature view on art, just listen to what the world tells them is cool.
@PneumaAsh28 күн бұрын
It's so crazy to think that people listen to music in that way. I don't know how, but I never saw music this way My favorite songs as a young child were the songs my parents listened to: Cherry Pie by Warrant (ironic), Boom Boom Pow by Black-Eyed Peas, everything by Five Finger Death Punch and everything by Halestorm, among others Outside of enjoying music in the games I played, I didn't start gaining my own taste in music until I gained free access to the internet in 8th grade. That's when I got really into anime openings (Crossing Field by LiSA, Monster Musume No Iru Nichijou's opening, everything by Myth & Roud) and electronic remixes of retro music (a remix of Kirby and a remix of Tetris A theme come to mind) In between sophomore and junior year of high school, a friend of mine got me into Osu!, and I got really good at it, causing my taste in music to favor a lot more electronic artists like T+Pazolite and Camellia. Fast forward to adult me and I've basically just expanded on my Osu! tastes. I listen to and follow most of the members of HARDCORE TANO*C, I listen to and follow a number of Touhou-based doujin circles (Yuuhei Satellite, Alstroemaria Records, Akatsuki Records, A-One, eastnewsound, Paradot, so on and so forth) It's not that I avoid popular music in any way, I've just kinda found a large enough niche that I have more to dig through here before I need to expand my horizons any further And all of my friends are the same way. I have one who still listens to the same butt rock and nu metal that Sonic caused them to love, one whose music taste was heavily influenced by mine, one who listens to almost exclusively Japanese City Pop, one who listens almost exclusively to heavy and death metal, and so on. I've known some of these people since 6th grade. I've just never been around people who've been concerned with what's trendy While I appreciate that I've always had my own tast and have never acted like the people replying to Omni, I also very rarely find people who have the same music taste as I do. It's perfectly fine, though I do wonder how finding someone with the same taste would go
@Miraji45428 күн бұрын
@@PneumaAshMy musical journey is very similar to yours. Started from my parents’ music (Spandau Ballet, Big Country, Human League). Then during my Sophomore year I played Osu! and got into Anime music (K-On, Eve, Lisa, Myth and Roid). This eventually expanded to Japanese songs in general (Dandism, Tuyu, Shinra Bansho, Ryujin, Monkey Majik, Mitchie M). You are the first person so far that has similar music taste to mine. Most of my friends who are into Japanese music stick to city pop or anime songs only.

@Miraji454 Oh man, how could I forget Shinra Bansho! My favorite individual song of theirs has to be Shuki☆RaiRai!!!, but I have also bought and binged their album Synchro5 obsessively They're definitely in the running for top 3 Touhou doujin circles for me

My favorite part about dunking on game composers is how many people fail to realize that those same people work in the industry and produce instrumentals and beats for the artists they love, and the artist they love equally love those composers in the same way. If I had a dollar for every mediocre rapper who samples Final Fantasy, Pokémon, or Zelda because they don’t bother to research the plethora of authentic licensed samples that those composers would pass around and trade with hiphop and pop artists of the 90s and 00s… the same samples that the larger than life rappers were using… and don’t get me STARTED on DnB, Jungle, Afro, or the perpetual use of the Hallelujah Break in VGM.
@sodathejunker28 күн бұрын
So crazy of a take to look down on Video game and Movie OSTs, comes from a place of pure ignorance 😂 Like people probably don’t even realize that kind of work is mad stable and pays well, and most musicians who aren’t hobbyists or touring aspire for that kind of work.

As a major punk rock and pop punk fan, just gonna leave 3 of the artists I been listening to a lot here in no particular order, 1. The Story So Far, they just had a really really good release this year with I Want To Disappear. Awesome album but my all time favorite still remains What You Don't See, Parker Cannon is such a good lyricist even if I didn't enjoy him too much at first cuz I thought his vocals were too "screamy". I eventually came around and now the band is a bop to me. Tracks I'd recommend listening to first would probably be Quicksand, Empty Space, and Big Blind since those are some of their most popular. 2. Descendents, big of a more classic band but when they shred they really shred. I love their record Everything Sucks so much I ended up getting a t-shirt for it lol. One of the few albums I personally call a no skip album but that's just me. Tracks I'd recommend first are Myage (one of my favorite songs when I just wanna hear some sick bass), Hope, and Suburban Home as these are from their most popular album Milo Goes to College, but Everything Sucks has some awesome tracks too like I'm The One, When I Get Old, We, Rotting Out, and Sick-O-Me. 3. Less Than Jake, "wah wah ska sucks" man stfu these guys are fun af. And they know how to rock too. Their Hello Rockview album is back to back bangers with a few really fun jump up and dance ska tracks. Help Save The Youth Of America From Exploding, Five State Drive, History Of A Boring Town, and Theme Song For H Street are some of my favorites. Anthem is my 2nd favorite album from them and it has absolute bangers like Look What Happened, Motown Never Sounded so Good, She's Gonna Break Soon, and Plastic Cup Politics.

Nobuo Uematsu is a classic. He's up there with Nobuyoshi Sano, Soichi Terada, Yuji Takenouchi, Hideki Okugawa, Junya Nakano and so on. Omni has refined taste.

Not Omni hitting us with the triple car crash ad! Also no Beatles or at least Paul McCartney? Paperback Writer and Temporary Secretary are absolute bangers!
