Surprised you did not mention how well animar works along side this for creature decks. Cheapening the x costs by it's counters and the fact it gives a free counter to animar every combat makes creatures get out of hand insanely fast

X cost decks tend to be very boring though just warning you. Most turns you only play 1 card.

Honestly is ability to place a counter on a creature during combat is a nice little feature as well. If you have Herd Baloth out you get a token every turn.

I’m excited to try this out, I just switched commanders and threw in about 19 different cards in the deck. I’ve got a fairly large staples binder so swaps are easy for me to make as I proxy for play testing. Very excited to try this

This is absolutely my favorite commander so far, I've added ozolith, shattered spire to add another 1/1 counter, branching evolution to double the amount of 1/1 counters, virtue of strength to triple the basic land being produced, nyxbloom, elusive otter for the adventure cost. It's an amazing commander imo

Missed a trick here, if you activate Magus' ability multiple times, the copies stack. So my loop of choice here is Magus + Intruder Alarm + any creature with T: Make a creature (this can also cost 1), then you generate infinite mana and can copy the X spell of your choice infinite times.

Sleeper card I think are amazing are: akki battle squad, multiple combats for big creatures and untaps magus so she can cast another copy. Also triggers her first ability twice. Deekah, fractal theorist: creates tokens WITH counters when spell are cast AND copied. Ton of value when casting and copying huge x spell and has counter synergy. Her second ability can also help your big creatures get through if needed. OP in this deck. One with kami: creates a ton of tokens, great for countering board wipes. Let me know what you think

My friends and I decided to order these decks months ago, and in the mean time play they're colors .Ive been playing temur dragons and using xspells, I laughed so hard I cryed a little reading this card. Storm Kings Wrath - Lightning bolt , most fun kill ever. Double casting Storm King's for the same tally on almost half mana? HELL YES! (- I cast lightning bolt 41 times , what is your response? -) (- Double cast Banefire has to be op aswell -)

Interesting, my response would kill the table: Gideon's Sacrifice + Arcbond + Brash Taunter. At that point, your 41 Lightning Bolts die on the stack and never resolve.

A spell or ability copied on the stack inherits every single property of that spell or ability from mana cost, color, targets (unless you can choose new targets for the copy), even card type and additional costs paid such as for kicker.

@@emilands3635 for 30 years the tyranid play style has been a close combat oriented rush faction with either swarms of bugs or the dreaded nidzilla monster swarm. Neither of the commanders they released fufill that role. The swarm lords rules don't even come close to mimicking what he did on the table top. He was close combat duelest and support caster. His swords literally caused instant death and 50% chance to avoid all damage. But they just made him an expensive beatstick with no protection who actually wants to die. The genestealer cult women isn't a named character and isnt even the most interesting leader from the cults to pick and she doesn't fit their play style either. The cults fight as a shadowy hit and run guerilla faction led by massive lighting fast genestealer patriarchs. I could go on even more but this is a fucking disservice.

If I was to guess its because the gene cult commander is better than the tyranid commander it seems at face value (Swarmlord can still be very good I think) but the “human” side of the tyranid army is considered a very different faction than the bug tyranids even though lore wise they 100% work together but it is just an aesthetic thing.

@@kainhart1010 I agree ,I thought they were gonna be a hyper aggresive early game creature wash, using cards to take additional battle phases to try and knock people out early, maybe trample or mutate included. I feel like they don't understand the board game identity of these groups.The Zerg in StarCraft literally are the exact same thing, Blizzard pays GW likeness rights over it. So , if they watched any clip from starcraft of the zerg what would they see? An unruly mob of bug aliens thrashing the enemies BEFORE they have time to prepare - in melee (mostly).

How?? Riku requires mana to use his abilities, this one gives you mana Riku needs ETB or a card on the stack, this one taps to use ability or passivly every turn gives +1/+1 They are so far apart in mechanics

Not a fan of a lot of these new commanders being able to go infinite in U, B or even G. Those colors have enough infinite combos. Make a three color that is at least W, R and something else. U and B probably have the most infinite combos already. This commander and Marneus Calgar push it even further. They just enable existing combos even better in CEDH builds with a combo piece in the command zone. WoTC has gone from incremental or semi-detrimental powered up commanders to ones that are "strictly better" when someone absconds their humanity and just goes straight CEDH. In other words, they are making CEDH cards not only available, but almost "must plays" in certain colors and archetypes. I have noticed this in my LGS's. Why play any subpar commander in the given colors, when you have combos on board with existing precon cards? Is this the beginning of the MtG burnout? When they released so many cards that escalated in power that they have nowhere else to go because they saturated the market with so many new sets in such a short amount of time?

I don't know where you have been in the last few year my guy oko and uro were years ago with every new release people are like "this is the card that breaks the camels back" Blue has a lot of tools that allow it to interact with the game that other colors typically don't that is inherently stronger for infinite combos blame Richard Garfield
