Eh, not inherently, no, but it also depends on how a person presents his convictions. The way Chael presents them I have nothing but respect for, but there are people whose convictions bleed, or outright cross, into fanaticism. That is a very different matter and I don't respect it at all. Even going so far as to say that sort of thing is apart of what makes the world a shittier place.

@@blaynegreiner9365 i think u may be slightly confused as well, buddy. Conviction doesn't necessarily have to do with religion at all. Sounds you're more talking about religious fanatics that try to push their beliefs on you or indoctrinate you. I've been a rabid boxing fan for decades, and definitely into MMA for about 10 yrs now... I've ALWAYS had the same exact thought that Chael articulated in this video, THE LIGHTER ("SMALLER") FIGHTERS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE MOST SKILLED". With less KOs, outside of the exceptions that have that extra power, the need to hone the fundamentals, as well as finding an it-factor in styles, due to more of an expectation to go all the rounds in the fights, is essential. Hence the fact that the lighter weight classes are choc full of flashing the most technique/skills.

You’ve touched on the Jones fight before, I believe you said, “I had a lot questions about John and he answered them all once we locked up”. I loved the way you phrased it. As wrestlers we love to put our hands on people and see how they feel, move, strength. It only takes a few seconds to lock horns with someone and realize, “This is not going to go my way”. Another funny example is joe Rogan playing with Mark Coleman and Mark deciding to show joe who the alpha was.

@@yesiam4610 I've always thought that, he would have been a force to reckon with. But then again, some fighters don't respond well to weight cutting and they don't look good at lower weights. Best example is Anthony Johnson, at 205 he beats everybody but Jones and d.c ,and he knocked out Arlovski at HW but at 185 can't get past vitor belfort and at 170 got choked out by koscheck for fuck sakes .

Over my time as a Fan (roughly since right before season 1 of TUF in 04-05), light heavyweight has been the marquee division even though that’s slipped over the years. That said, the lightweight division has the most talent, by far.

I agree. The smaller guys can do things the larger guys can't buy the punishment the larger guys dish out takes more out of a person and takes longer to recover and recuperate from. Light heavyweight is the the most dangerous of all the divisions, imo

Chael, I just happened to be working in Melbourne, Australia when Izzy abs Whitaker were fighting and you were there and we happened to stay in the same hotel. I saw you walk into the breakfast area and went up and introduced myself to you and Ryan. I honestly was intimidated, I didn’t know if you were some arrogant ass or a cool guy and you were a gentleman, I shook your hand you were the coolest man. Keep doing what you’re doing, treating the fans the way you do. I

Just want to point out the rounds are very important for the livelihood of MMA. They help with both pacing of the event so it is both friendly for the audience and advertisers. It allows it to be easily split up especially for judges, especially in the beginning, that don’t know how to quantify what they are seeing.(still don’t know imo) And most importantly what keeps most sports going now a days makes it more likely for people to bet on it which is a large amount of people who would otherwise not take interest in it.

IMHO, the reason it changed to timed rounds was most likely due to "lay n pray" grapplers. Shortened rounds and stand 'em up rules formed because of the lack of action brought about by this style.
@olliefoxx7165
@olliefoxx7165 2 жыл бұрын
True. I think the current time for the rounds is a good balance for the grapplers to work their trade and the strikers to get it done. Grappling is an important part of mma and sometimes that takes time.
