If Chael wants to donate to Wanderlei’s team, he should just reach out to his manager, or his old fighting team. Someone out there can advise Chael about where that money can go - if not Wanderlei himself, one of his people. But I would think having some sort of “bury the hatchet” moment could be worth quite a bit if they can have that experience between one another.

Wanderlei Silva vs Dan Henderson at PrideFC Cold Fury 1, was the first MMA fight I ever actually sat down and watched and took all the way in. It was my 1st year in the US Army, on my own for the first time in my life, in a foreign place for me. That fight inspired me to start training and competing, and Wanderlei was my new idol, he was THE Beast. I modeled a lot of my game and mentality after him, and I had success and lot of fun in there. A whole lot of good came from those experiences, and I thank him for the inspiration. I sincerely hope he gets into congress, and changes the lives of many the way he did my own. I couldn't believe my eyes for witnessing what I witnessed and then people telling me that it's a regular occurrence. For you, Chael, was the opposite. I remember Rampage Jackson talking about walking in Japan and seeing his 'nemesis' Wanderlei Silva and his team. Quinton admitted he was scared, but he couldn't walk away because he would look like a p*ssy, so he walked up to him instead. Wanderlei smiled at Quinton, reached in his pocket and pulled out some gum and offered a piece to Rampage. Rampage took it and for a moment they weren't rivals, but instead just two guys chewing gum in a parking lot. That story always stuck with me. Another is when Charles 'Crazy Horse' Bennett stormed into the Chute Boxe locker room in Pride and sucker punched Wanderlei (Stories vary), supposedly knocking him out. As filming starts, the Chute Boxe BJJ coach got Bennett on the ground and while they could have easily stomped the guy out as a team, instead they let the coach choke him out with a triangle, IIRC.

I was a 5 or 6yo kid when I first watched Wanderlei Fight, it was his iconic and bloody Meca Fight. My father and my uncle would reunite in my grandmother house where we would stay up until 2-3am to watch what in that time was called Vale-Tudo. I would always fall asleep very early in the night and then wake up with the noise when Wanderlei fight started. Cachorro Louco - Mad Dog is what he was called in Portuguese back then. I can honestly say that this guy, this very one person that I never met in person, inspired and shaped my life absurdly, since watching fight since then to training jiu jitsu and much more. I don't even know why I'm writing this, man I'm emotional.

W Silva was such a beast you new fans don’t remember the brutal savagery pride days where he was wrecking guys including a prime solid Rampage. Respect to the legend 👏

Wanderlei Silva during his last couple of fights in Pride, and first few in the UFC is when I became an MMA fan. He was ELECTRIFYING! Sadly his UFC career was less than exciting. Still he he a part of the pioneering generation of MMA!

His era was very good. The beginning of very talented guys. He got me wanting to do mma, ended up in wolfs lair widnes, same gym as Mike bisbing (before he was in the ufc) that led to me sparring rampage Jackson a few times, multiple pro fights making good money for somthing i loved, highs, lows, cauliflower ears, broken teeth fighting with 10k fans and making mma my favourite sport, by a long way. I'll always love this guy for getting me into mma, even if he did get to close to the goat.

I trained incredibly hard as an athlete in school. When school was over I became a drug addict rather quickly. Those endorphins are near impossible to replace….Luckily I only spent a couple years in it before I found my true purpose.

Great hearing the respect between opponents. Good advice as always. Also we can see the respect but also the introspection here in terms of your own goals. Maybe take some time to mull over what you have achieved and be kinder to yourself Chael

Ide say this rivalry was one of the rare actual real rivalries, they did not like each other. As real as the heat was , so is the respect. Chael doesn't even try to hide it and that is sheer class. So is the fact that due ro (language barrier) few things some of the public percieved wandy as dumb etc and chael has stuck up for him. Or explaining why he didnt piss test and all that. Its like Chael knows he takes the trash talk to levels that most never exactly get over it, so he understands not getting compliments back but he still shows some love. :)

Lifelong MMA fan & nobody influenced my fandom as much as Wanderlei Silva. Late 90s early 2000s we're the Wanderlei years. I love GSP, view him as GOAT but he & Wanderlei are in a league of their own in my mind. The Pride Wanderlei was just plain scary. God the memories. Thank you Mr Silva.
