This has really inspired me to see the little opportunities that come with every day life. The beauty that comes from the photos is the simplicity of how things are and freezing a moment that otherwise would go by without being noticed.

i've been thinking about this a lot the last couple weeks. i'm in the process of re-descovering photography by giving me the chance to shoot whatever i found interesting without expecting other people's validation or like and it's been pretty heartwarming :)

This inspired me to write. I don't think anyone would want to read it, but here it is, anyway, inspired by the hard but inviting light depicted in many of the pictures. It's impossible to describe light to a blind man. It's just as difficult to describe it to a man with sight. I've not tried either, but I'm confident about it anyway. The light I'm thinking of was coming through the window, and with all the motes floating by in crowded throngs, the impression was that the light was moving, streaming in like glowing yellow liquid, splashing down on the wooden table in a perfect golden square. Of course the light was moving, but it might as well not be, with how fast, except then it was like it were moving slower, lazily pouring across a neglected black charging cable and three red paperclips that couldn't remember how they'd gotten there. It's impossible to describe light, but it might be possible to describe how it can make you feel, to a person with the eloquence to do so. This light was bright, of course, evidence of a sunny day, the world was still turning. It was good news, really. But that's not how it made me feel. It made me feel relaxed. The dust specs and the filtering of the light, the stillness and the forgotten red paperclips all told of stillness, in some perplexing, soundless, quiescent way. I might have breathed cool air in through my nostrils, then, felt the pleasure of my bare feet on the soft carpet, and let my eyes wander across the gold light, the saturated green from the tree leaves outside the dirty window-pane. I couldn't have stayed there forever. The moment was just a moment, and if I were there forever it would be something else, so although it's kind of sad that it couldn't last, that I couldn't stay there for even the same duration that the sun did, and the charging cable and the red paper clips with poor memories, I certainly could stay there for a bit longer, at least. A bit longer. And I did, with the sun and the square of light and the disordered crowd of dust flecks and the golden wood of the tabletop, and none of us said anything because we all understood that we were having a moment, and it would be gone soon. But not just yet.

Ah, Teo. This video found me at the perfect time.. I recently lost my 12.5 year old cat in October and I haven't been shooting since. I think a part of it was because I loved taking photos of him and when he passed, that part of me also passed with him. This video reminded me that there are other moments in my life that are beautiful and to be more mindful of them when they come. I want to try this challenge to also improve my photography as well :)

Like where this video went. I am someone who likes to bite off more than I can chew and tend to get frustrated by the lack of success. This is a good lesson in humility and just taking what the world and what your energy is giving you. Don't try to do too much but keep testing yourself when you can. Great stuff Teo!

@jowensguitar10 ай бұрын
I've found this mindset really helpful for music as well. There are times when it is quite challenging to feel artistically motivated, especially when practicing a particularly challenging piece over many weeks. Taking some time to simplify and be more present helps refocus and reinvigorate joy in the art. Thanks for the reminder, Teo!

This makes me feel motivated to do the challenge as well! I used to take lots of pictures and videos everyday, no matter what I was doing. After i moved to a new city with a new job, life has just been pretty busy and I just at some point stopped doing it. I love the idea of this challenge! I sort of unintentionally did this when I went on my 6 week trip to Vietnam. Being able to look back at the photos I took makes me enjoy the simple things I was able to live through. I took my digital camera which was the Canon Cliq2+, and since it was a crappy little camera it made me feel less conscious about "wasting film" or anything like that because it was all digital. Because of this I was able to take more pictures and shoot some of my favorite pictures I was ever able to shoot in 2023. I hope to become even more familiar with taking photos this 2024 year and to take more pictures of the mundane and new experiences going forward.

They are lovely. The ones you deem mediocre can also create art for someone who is a painter who would want to use your content. The way I view the photos of still life would be as how the fine art painters viewed it. Good work. Keep at it.

great video! reminds me of my journal goal i started 2 years ago now. i struggled with journaling and building habits (still do), so i made it my goal to write SOMETHING every single day. sometimes i just write the date and "i am tired." other times i write 1-3 pages about a single day's events, creative ideas, what's on my mind, etc. i tape junk in it as well. i've missed around 10 total days in the last 2 years, not aiming for perfection. because this concept worked for me with my journal, i think it'll work for photography as well

I am really happy that I came across your video. I began a similar challenge, inspired by you. I want to get better at composition and editing, so depending on what I have with me that day, I'll either use a camera or a phone. The goal is to shoot regular stuff, nothing exceptional, and then edit based on the mood of the image (I want to experiment more, but I feel like I've built a style over time and I'm kind of stuck there). Thank you! 🌻
