1) Even if you had all the budget in the world a film like this won’t cost as much to make as most blockbusters, which is a good thing! 2) I love how you say “when” and not “if”, that’s the same thing I do when talking about my acting career, it helps speak it into existence.

Cool video. I’ve been a student in Tyler’s Practical Screenwriting course since May, and in June, I finished my first screenplay since 2013. He really helps his students combat writer’s block and it’s great to see the influence he has on other people.

I think 48 hrs is motivational, but I think more realistically is to set 30 days, 3 pages a day. That anyone with a busy schedule can balance out. Good job!
@asherward15894 жыл бұрын
Haha. Yeah that's a fair point, personally I get super discouraged when writing that slow. But I get that not all people have a whole weekend off like me after work.
@leroystreetproductions58704 жыл бұрын
@@asherward1589 I should say aim for 3 pages minimum, I would do more of 5 pages a day on my first feature. I found that after a few hours my creative juices just aren't there. I'd rather spread it out and be on my A game each time.
@asherward15894 жыл бұрын
@@leroystreetproductions5870 yeah that's understandable. My creativity dies out if spending longer than a few days on the first draft because I am constantly second guessing myself when I'm not writing, so if I involve myself entirely into writing, then it's almost like i exist inside the world i created for that small amount of time.

One of the best takeaways here is to write a genre piece. The bones are there for you and then your own personal tastes fill in the blanks and make it unique

@@asherward1589 I get you:) I tried 48h challenge but I ended up selecting the most inconvinient 48h for this... I wrote only 10 pages but I want to finish the story as I think it has good potential....So now I am starting another 48h challenge in which I hope to finish my story:) I am writing scripts but not for film but for cartoon. I want a feature length cartoon in 48h... I already have 10 pages so I have approximately 70 more to go...To be honest I am soo scared but I will try to just relax and write. As I find that when I do not think about what others will think of it I can actually write but once the fear and/or doubt kicks in it seems like every single word is an inner fight. Thus I tend to look on the brideside and limit inner fight:)))

Thanks for sharing your experience with the 48 hour writing. I thinking about trying this out myself too. Although, I would reccomend at least a week for a full feature script. You do need to rest your mind and your body because it is tiring and draining to be sitting in front of the computer all day for two days. Also, your wrists. Carpal tunnel is not something you want to have if you are a writer. If you do have a day job and family to take care of, then this challenge as well as writing in general is going to be a real challenge.
@asherward15892 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely. Now that I have a full time job and my own place, it definitely would be much more of a challenge, I couldn't even imagine if my girlfriend and I had kids, a week definitely makes sense, but I fully believe a week should be the max time you give yourself for a challenge like this. Otherwise I believe you'll lose focus. Maybe i should try a one week challenge now that my life is a little different?
@jasonlorphotofilms2 жыл бұрын
@@asherward1589 Definitely a week or less. It is true that you can lose focus and want to move to another genre or idea after working on one for such a long time. For your current situation, the challenge is depending on how your day at work goes. If it's a stressful day and you are mentally and physically drained, then you might not have the motivation to write. Hopefully, your girlfriend is understanding and gives you some space to do your writing when you get home. It would be so much easier if you were a full time screenwriter and write as a source of income and enjoyment. Until then we just gotta find that balance. When you find that balance, then I believe it's possible to finish a script in a week. As a full time screenwriter maybe even 2 or 3 days.
@asherward15892 жыл бұрын
@@jasonlorphotofilms I definitely believe as a full time writer the first draft should be pushed out in two or three days because until that first draft is done you're really just planning. Whereas once that first draft is done, you are actually fixing something and making the beginnings of a movie, no matter how terrible that first draft is, it doesn't matter the quality of the first draft, it matters the quality of the final draft. Of course this is personal opinion but I do believe everybody should take a shot at it. Because once that first draft is complete it's almost like your passion for the project starts over because now your new passion is fixing the story and making it great, and that passion (for me at least) seems to last longer than the passion for completing the first draft.
@jasonlorphotofilms2 жыл бұрын
@@asherward1589 I with you on that 100%. I think it is important to finish the script ASAP while it's still fresh and interesting to you before you find interest in something else. The editing process I found was a lot easier because there's a finished script to read and edit versus a script that still in progress and not ready to be edited. There's a saying that you should never rush art, but when it comes to screenwriting the first draft is just the tip of the iceberg. I admire your passion for writing. I look forward to seeing more of your creative thoughts come to life. Definitely subscribed.
@asherward15892 жыл бұрын
@@jasonlorphotofilms I appreciate it and agree with everything you said. I wish I had more content for you to enjoy but I honestly didn't expect this video to take off like it did and I released right before my adult life had started. I know that's no excuse but I hope to create more content soon and get back to my craft. Maybe a sequel to this video with writing a feature in a week around a full time job and life of an adult instead of the still basic carefree world of a teenager like this video.

I am always open to constructive criticism and wouldn't mind somebody having a look through it if ya keep in mind two things; one, it is VERY vulgar as it focuses on young adults who go through the Apocalypse so it's going to be a very very very hard R rating, and two, it is still in the first draft phase as I am not writing the second draft until I can make a video on it. Just send me an email and we can talk.
