WHOA GUYS let's clear something up: I wasn't procrastinating, I had to finish editing a 20-minute video I had already committed to releasing that week. I WISH I had been procrastinating. That would've been way more fun.

I wrote a screenplay last spring. Spent about an hour a day writing for three months. Got around three pages done a day. It takes a lot of discipline and patience

Also, I realize it may not be feasible for you guy to write together but writing sections of the script separately may cause differences in pacing and voice. Just a thought
@TheGeorgeD136 жыл бұрын
3 months? I find that to be a very long time. My first drafts usually take me about 3 weeks. Though, I may be going faster than most people, so I do wonder what the average is.
@griffinh216 жыл бұрын
George Daugherty Everyone's process is different. I find myself continually rewriting as I go. May spend 30 to 45 minutes on a single page
@TheGeorgeD136 жыл бұрын
Ah, that makes sense. Then your first drafts are probably more polished than mine. I would only do rewriting as I go if I needed a polished draft in a tight deadline on assignment. Personally, I just have to get the barebones story done and out of the way, so that I can go and rewrite and refine the story to the best story I can get out of that first draft.

Put the 3 cups flour, yeast, 2 teaspoons salt and 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a food processor. Turn the machine on and add 1 cup water through the feed tube. Process until the mixture forms a slightly sticky ball, about 30 seconds. If the mixture is too dry, add more water 1 tablespoon at a time and process for 5 to 10 seconds after each addition. If the mixture refuses to come together, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time and process until it does. Rub a little olive oil or sprinkle a little flour onto your hands and shape the dough into a ball; wrap in plastic. Let rest at room temperature until the dough doubles in size, 1 to 2 hours. Or, if time is tight, let it rest at least 20 minutes before proceeding. Or refrigerate for several hours, deflating if necessary if it threatens to burst the plastic. (Or divide in half, wrap each ball in plastic, slip into a plastic bag and freeze.) Let it return to room temperature before proceeding. Reshape the dough into a ball and cut in half, forming 2 balls. (From here on, use olive oil if you're cooking on baking sheets, flour if on a pizza stone.) Put them on a lightly floured surface (a pizza peel is ideal), sprinkle with flour and cover with plastic wrap; or brush then with a bit of oil and place on a lightly oiled sheet. Let rest for about 20 minutes, while you heat the oven to 500 degrees. Press a dough ball into a 1/2-inch-thick flat round, adding flour or oil to the work surface as necessary. Press or roll the dough until it's as thin as you can make it; let it rest a bit if it becomes too elastic. (Patience is your friend here.) You can do two baking sheets at once, or one after another, as you'll have to if using a peel. If doing the latter, slide the dough from the peel onto the stone. Sprinkle the pizzas with olive oil (just a little), salt and rosemary. Bake for at least 10 minutes, perhaps rotating once, until the crust is crisp. Serve hot, warm or at room temperature.

I feel you guys on how long it takes to write screenplays, regardless of quality. It took me 9 months to write the first draft of my first screenplay. I took a break to work on a screenplay for a second story thinking I would be faster now, but it took 11 months to finish that one; it was far better quality. Now I'm finally at my second draft of my first screenplay. It was all worth it, though. That feeling of completing something major really motivated me to keep on it, despite the time commitment. Best wishes to you guys as well!

I always print everything big I have to write or rewrite. You take a red pen and go crazy, crossing out, reshuffel, spellchecking, note-taking. Because nobody can write as quick on a computer as one is thinking. And it's fast, two to three minutes a page on average. Later on you get started writing and typing, the best? You don't have to remember anything because it's written down already and if you are good on taking notes you will have an easy time explaining changes to your superiors or coworkers.

ok, here is a idea, don't know if it is a good one but here we go. When you have your final screenplay, do something like that fan made star wars film. I mean if its 120 pages put it out to the world and take the best, funniest, or what ever version and use them to make the film. So what would happen is each team would pick a page, you could have someone let up a discord server as the made place for people to talk about what pages they are want to do and what people are working on. use this as an experiment in community film making. There are a ton of people out there with the want to do this and its a way to see the film done and see how it changes team to team (see the star wars fan films for what I am talking about). Yes, it will still be a good bit of work on your end but in the end you get the film made, posted to youtube, lots of people get there shot of being part of it and who knows that could happen. the whole thing from start to finish would be fun to watch. Like I said, just an Idea.

Setting an arbitrary one week deadline to draft or re-draft an entire feature screenplay is counter productive. It makes for a cute video idea but that is not a good way to write. Take your time. Set a deadline for yourselves for sure - one month, two months - but forcing yourselves to speed through the writing process is not the stepping stone to a good script. It's like you just want to get it out of the way so you can get to the part you like - a table read. I find this whole thing very dubious. p.s. no one wants to steal your work. Stop being so precious. Christ, you even have a video in which to prove the copyright if you had pitched the idea. I bet you even added that little copyright symbol onto the front of your screenplay. A word from someone who does this for a living - this makes you look like amateurs.
