I'll be honest I've been a firm believer that it's a myth however today we are going to see 2 consecutive sets where I get the most ridiculous matches one after another. some of the mon I saw I could do nothing but laugh? do you believe in the algorithm?
todays team is going to be an ABB team with alolan Ninetales in the lead with double ground in the back.

Algo conversations are the best. I only want the matches to be fun. Getting trippled hard countered is just piss poor programing. Wasting 4 or 5 minutes only to feel like you never had a chance is why only 5% of pogo players play GBL

I really wonder why players constantly deny an algorithm by saying "you're just not good enough to beat matchups". Two things can be true. You can still overcome bad team comps, or lose to favorable ones, neither of those guarantees wins. This is why good players can repeatedly hit high ranks but weaker players cannot. However, an algorithm in a public f2p game makes perfect sense from a development standpoint as far as making it fair. I can't see why Niantic wouldn't want to keep the game as balanced as it can be for all players.

Because there is no algorithm in terms of things like leads and type matchups. The only “algorithm” is the matchmaking system which puts you against opponents of similar rating.

@@jonsnow3919 there could be two algorithms, one that targets matchups and another than focuses on ELO. From a development standpoint, this would allow weak players to still get wins based merely off chance, but good players will be able to climb and overcome them. This game is a business, so making a system that keeps it balanced for the majority of players makes perfect sense. Otherwise, you end up with a large percentage of the player base that doesn't bother with GBL because they can't compete with the hardcore players.

There is most definitely a pairing algorithm used on the back-end. However, we’re just not sure if that algorithm takes into account the Pokémon you selected, or just your ELO.

I think there is an algorithm, though I don't think it's as simple as some people purport. I think matchmaking is based on how long you've been using a team and your win rate, in part, as well as typing of mons and moves. So this way the game can force you to build more Pokemon = more grinding for stardust and candy, and that way they have a better chance of making money off pvp

Sometimes I wonder if there’s some team comp algorithm when I’m getting hard countered or hard countering people constantly. But then I remember it’s Niantic and they can’t even make the game’s core features work right half of the time, so what are the chances they’d be able to create a complex matchmaking algorithm that never breaks? That aside, it’s just kind of the nature of team building that your back line supports your lead, so being hard countered in the lead means you will likely be hard countered in the back too. That’s why ABB teams are so fun, because they kind of break normal team building and are designed to overcome bad leads, and ironically underperform in good leads.

I do believe there is some system in play that considers team match ups and win streaks, dont think it is designed around the leading mons, that is still just a coinflip. Maybe this was just karma for you using tap tap tap A rough day at the office

Algorithm just makes the game very frustating and boring, and it's quite unfair for casual players who doesnt have XL mons. Without XL pokes is really dificult to overcome a hard 3 counter algo team

I run A9 as well in UL but I would never lead with it. It has WAAAYYY too many counters.. it also basically loses to everything that's not dragon, dark, or fighting. I only use it to counter the Cresselia and Giratina Safe Swaps.

Had a 60% win rate but couldn’t play for a week. Opened it up and went 1-9. Hard countered every match. Since I was screwed decided to run a shitty team with all the lowest rated Pokémon. Game errored out finding a match 5 times in a row. So the algorithm does look at your Pokémon and decides if it’s going to screw you over or not. Ended up going 2-5 with that team beating someone who was running a worse team than mine and the other one quitting. So ended up resetting game data and everything went back to normal. I think it would be better if the damn algorithm just matched you with similar players regardless of what Pokémon you are using but instead Niantic is trying to force parity.

17:15 wtf ? 2 wings attack but incinerate got sneak throw, I think you lag a turn before for first wing attack maybe or something like that, but is so annoying, in your case you still pull up the win, but for me I got destroyed so many times by lag. But it is what it is, I will still continue to play this game because is so funny even if is so buggy. Hard counter Algorithm is true, but we have to fight for our win cond, any time the opponent can make a huge mistake

As a software developer, ive always found it funny when youtubers say there isnt an algo...i feel everyone is so focused on not trying to sound like PokeAK that they take this stance. Let me tell you there is 100% an algo. You need it to ensure balanced matchmaking. That said, it can definately be overcome from good team building and increased battling skill.q PS that incinerate snuck through on you because you had 1 turn delay

It’s not that there is no algorithm at all, it’s about what people mean when they say algorithm. Obviously there’s an ELO system to make for a more balanced matchmaking experience. The people that whine about the algorithm mean that there is some coding that intentionally matches players up against hard-counter matchups in order to keep certain people down or ensure 50/50 W/L ratios, which is much more dubious. That’s what people are referring to when they say there is “no algorithm.”

You are both right. Its based on ELO, but for games with typing advantages and disadvantages, there is also an element of matchmaking with neutral, effective, and ineffective pokemon based on party. Its just inherent to the system. I just find it funny when people flat out say there isnt one...there is...and its not hard to see. PokeAK's rants have some truth to them, though he is on the very extreme side. But yeh im speaking from experience in game design and matchmaking sequencing and coding

The human brain is adept at finding patterns where there are none. It's what allowed us to strive as a species, what makes us geniuses and, ironically enough, what makes us dumbasses. It's one of our primal instincts and, as such, absolutely cannot be relied on for judgement. Even if you lose the lead 10 times or 100 times in a row. Maybe your lead is shit. Maybe you unwillingly ignore the good leads you get. Maybe you're unlucky. Whatever the reason is, there's no algorithm and never was.

If you win alot. The game will punish you. With loss after loss. Early play at go battle. Wins are easy. Later in game. It will force you to either power up. Change your team. All to make you spend more time and resouces. Players who say, 'your just not good enought.' Either spent more money and time. Or are using seaking programs to troll for win and reward. Seeing my game glitch out after getting to 18 stars. Is a tell tail. 5 to 6 seconds to find opponent? Slow conection. Lol. I am using my home internet. Fast as F.
