I used to do social work for a home healthcare agency. I also did hospice care. I had a client who’s wife passed away when they were in their 40’s. He was 75 and was on hospice. I was his caregiver. They didn’t have any children, he loved this song and one of the last things he asked me was to make sure this was played at his funeral. He said “I’ve been mourning her for so long, I can’t remember the last time I went to sleep without tears.” I made sure they played it and I sobbed through the entire thing. I’m so grateful they’re together again.

The song was recorded 1979 and released 1980. It starts with "I'll love you till I die" brilliant lyrics. I just love great story telling songs. Backing vocals The Jordanaires, the soprano is Millie Kirkham and on harmonica Charlie McCoy all known for working with Elvis and many other artists. I think Elvis would have done a great cover of this beautiful heartbreaking song. Great reaction Seph and thanks.👌

If it makes you feel better, George Jones felt the same way about the song as you did. He was in the depth of alcoholism. He had almost given up on his career. They pushed him to release the song. He made the recording and said "Good look selling this depressing bastard". Then it revived his career and he had to keep singing it.

“The Grand Tour” is another George Jones heart wrenching tune. I’d really like to introduce you to an artist new to you, perhaps, but one who is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I mentioned that to him one time, and he put his head down and, “But I only do ONE thing!” He was as humble as he was talented. Here is Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble doing a great old Blues piece, “Texas Flood.” Don’t look away…. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXSYeWyGaatoi80si=qV4fLYSY7AtfXAci

George Jones was completely off my radar, but really like this. What a heartbreaking love song. There's an amazing bit here during the first chorus where your face goes from a big smile to shock as you realize he has died. (2:09) George's voice reminds me of Charlie Rich and his 1973 hit "The Most Beautiful Girl." Both songs about lovers you can never get over. And it looks from the number of views, George has pulled in quite a bit of interest to your channel.

you'd be surprised how many "reactors" don't get this song. I can scarcely make it through this song without tearing up. Thanks for your reactions. Loved it. New sub. Edit: Here in the Southern USA, placing a black wreath on the door indicates someone in the home has passed.

This is what sets Country music apart from other genres, the songs tell stories. Some happy some sad, but that is life. Anyway, the thing is nobody loves like this today, reason is every time you have a different sexual partner it comes at a cost, for you soon become so hardened you can no longer have a lasting bond.

It's basically a story about how George loved Tammy Wynette. The line, "The placed a wreath upon his door' refers to placing a wreath on the door of the casket. George and Tammy were married, but they divorced and even though he remarried, everyone knew he never stopped loving Tammy. He wrote this as a tongue-in-cheek statement of how his love for her would never end. Another good one you should react to is "Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling
@bwilliams463

Actually, the tradition, which pretty much died out by the 1960s, was to place a black wreath on the deceased person's front door, so people passing by would know what happened to him.
@paulaegraham
@paulaegraham Жыл бұрын
No. He didn't write the song, nor did he want to record it. In the deep south until recently, put a wreath on the door of the house to announce there had been a death in the house and to honor the dead.
