I’m a American born Vietnamese and I speak both Hue and Nam accents. Listening to him talk Vietnamese is pretty hard to understand. It sounds really aggressive. I think that why the owner didn’t really answer him bc she couldnt understand him.

@MaxMcFarlin For your reference, when I went to Soc Trang 30 years ago I heard about Bún Nước Lèo. At first It was famous in Soc Trang and spread to other provinces in Mekong Delta, VN. I heard from some old men in local, they said that Bún Nước lèo Soc Trang became famous by cooking with a species of "Cá Cháy" but this Cá Cháy species was extinct for over 40 years (at the moment I heard from local old men). Up to now this fish was extinct for over 70 years. Therefore, nowadays they use Snake Head fish to cook Bún Nước Lèo as a alternative material.

Bún nước lèo from Trà vinh and Sóc trăng ( Khơme people ) they made Mắm bò hóc and Mắm cá linh up to the place they life, the taste super delicious when u eat with fish vegetable blood pork or duck roast pork, the west style and unique taste cannot be have in another place or region !!!

Max, can you do a video on Soc Trang? I was raised from a baby to a toddler in a town called Ke Sach in Soc Trang. My parents took me out from the Saigon hospital when I was a baby bc the Viet Cong came storming in the city and was killing everyone. We left on a refugee boat in 1978 and headed to Malaysia. Got accepted by a Christian family in California and have been living in Dallas, Texas for over 40 years. Hopefully I can go visit in a few years...
