Don't forget these pedals also have midi. You could sequence some of the parameters, or get a controller hooked up to give you better performance. I haven't seen much videos that explore that with pedals like these. Things like the Microcosm or other Chase Bliss pedals probably could have a whole extra creative dimension sequencing them. Would be interesting to see how other people would integrate it to get ideas.
@happyjessus6 күн бұрын

You’re right. I think Ive only seen Richard DeHove do sequencing on the Nightverb reverb fx box since every parameter can be tweaked.

They’re in the same price range more or less which one is better in your opinion or is it hard to compare them one on one ? One more thing please, when you route your audio out form the Digi to the external compressor do you disable the compressor on the Digi?

@RickyTinez4 күн бұрын
Right? My favorite thing to do is get the kick sounding good by itself and slowly bringing in all the other elements and you can really start to get them to dance together.
@saardean44816 күн бұрын
Looks like fun. Its in my future list. When you switched it off at 4:50 and say the vibe is gone,,, well on the other hand the low end returned. Tough choice. The vibey version had no low end while the unprocessed kick is round and thumpy. That is a job where a sidechain has to come into play imho
@i-never-look-at-replies-lol6 күн бұрын
or parallel compression
@saardean44816 күн бұрын
@@i-never-look-at-replies-lol parallel compression will still contain the whole spectrum of frequencies and also will not stop the compressor from being triggered by the low bass. In the new york style parallel they used an eq before the compressor and dipped the mids in a smiley way, exaggerated with the compression and then blend it in, in parallel under the original mix for flavor. Only back then bass music as we know it did not really exist. I many times do not want a compressor to be triggered by a 40hz root note content of a deep kick or subbass as it eats up all headroom and the compressor starts pumping too much which can be nice at times but i prefer to have the choice to avoid it. Not really comparable cause its much more costly but on my xpressor hardwear it has a wonderful SC filter using which you are very flexible. For me personally an SC filter at least for the low end should be standard in any contemporary compressor but i can of course only talk about me.
@pirateradioFPV6 күн бұрын
I love the compression ☺ I actually sacrifice a mixer channel just to have the sidechain pumping when I pull the kick out, so one might argue that the sidechain is an instrument of its own. Which in the modern EDM, it most definitely is 😊
@RickyTinez4 күн бұрын
Oh, for sure! Especially when you have a ghost kick really moving a pad, it completely changes it. It’s basically an LFO on the volume!

Hey Ricky amazing video as always I was wondering what your opinion between the chase bliss clean, and the oto boum is? I‘ve been wanting to buy a pedal compressor for a while and those two stick out to me I just cant make my mind up.. would love a second opinion!! Love from Berlin
@RickyTinez4 күн бұрын
I used to have the BOUM and eventually got rid of it because it was a little too extreme for me. I find that clean can be extremely clean, very surgical, or really dirty and grungy. Plus the price difference is hard to beat! Not only that the clean is also way smaller. You might miss out on presets, but for me personally, I don’t really need more than one or two on a compressor. Especially when is easy to dial in like clean you can just do it manually on the fly.
@pjforde19786 күн бұрын
It's so crazy to me that you would record this whole video and completely ignore the sidechain input. It has to be the stand-out feature for this pedal.
@TheArtisticFlavor6 күн бұрын
It's not really that crazy. It wasn't a full review, he was just showing how he is currently using it. And he's using it with a Digitakt, which doesn't have separate outputs, so he wouldn't have been able to show off the sidechain feature anyway.
@MrScarabey6 күн бұрын
@@TheArtisticFlavor But Digi has stereo outs/ins, maybe you could send a kick from L out, and the rest from R out?
@TheArtisticFlavor6 күн бұрын
@@MrScarabey Oh for sure, you could do that. I just value my stereo field too much. I like to use panning/panning modulation for some things, and my DT2 uses stereo samples, and I wouldn't want to lose that. So it's horses for courses in that regard. For me it's also a bit of a moot point because DT has built-in side chain compression. You could also play with doing a little internal side chain compression on the DT, then hit it some more with the Clean for that maximum groove.

this is cool, but kinda weird to have the release on a three-setting switch vs a knob. feels like they had one too many things to try to fit into their standard layout format
@BachelorMachinesTV6 күн бұрын
The middle release setting is controlled by pressing both footswitches and turning the Attack knob. So both things are true: you can set it via a knob *and* they ran out of things to fit in their standard layout.
@JgHaverty6 күн бұрын
This thing is *way* too expensive to be "not bad". The problem is it sounds like some audio ducking you can do in post; especially considering the EDM-centric music being presented. I can list off a dozen free vst's that will replicate this thing 100%. Im not hating the product, Im just not understanding how this thing is even remotely approaching its price tag. Like yea, its definitely "not bad". I just think its weird to settle for that. I genuinely wish you could have done some vocal samples or guitar (funk or metal/djenty tones for comparison). I cant ever see myself buying this, for any reason.
