I just lived in Santiago for 4 months and was missing it so opened your video- I don’t know anywhere in the world where you can take a bus from the city center and not go through something sketchy. I am a 52 year old female, lived in Providencia but my favorite neighborhoods to explore, eat, have a coffee, were much less posh, like Patronato, junguy, etc. I walked in so many gritty neighborhoods and fell in love, in spite of the stress of being in a big city. Lots of gringos I knew had their phones grabbed, and if you aren’t extremely aware this will absolutely happen, as well as your purse or backpack, and if you go partying with a bunch of other gringos in Bella Vista you may even get jumped. But I walked everywhere and found so many beautiful spots. Up to the last day I was there I was still discovering. And I am super fascinated by the native cultures and political history. Chile has a lot of soul in spite of the homogenous and somewhat more uptight seeming exterior. The markets and museums, cultural centers, parks, so much good stuff. I would love to go back someday, part of my heart is there. Chile, I miss you💜😭

I went to Chile in 2009. As a black American guy, I was stared at like an alien everywhere. Back then, there were no Haitian migrants yet so almost no black people existed in Chile. I traveled from Santiago, Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, San Fernando, La Serena. Valle de Elqui, San Pedro de Atacama. I think the whole trip I saw maybe 4 other black people. So we were a very rare site and the stares started to make me very self-conscious everywhere. Maybe it's different now. I also met a very dark and tall black British woman of Ghanaian ancestry who went to Chile and said she didn't like it because of the constant staring that made her uncomfortable. I still had a good time though and think Chile is beautiful and met some nice people.

Valparaiso (called Valpo by locals) area + Temuco/national parks in the Andes are good trips, although Valpo is disappointing because it needs work, like an injection of a billion dollars to retrofit the decaying old city. I guess you are not getting to Patagonia, but that's a trip in itself. I landed in Temuco and of course knew zero Spanish, so I showed a taxi driver a picture of the trees I wanted to see (araucaria auraucana, or monkey puzzle trees, around since BEFORE dinosaurs) and he drove me straight to a lodge in the mountains. The lodge concierge found me a tour off-season (winter) of the trees in the Andes. I agree that the route from the airport is really depressing, I don't think anybody enjoys it. Some areas of Santiago have really worsened in the last 6 years due to different reasons, and I think the center of the city is no longer what it used to be in terms of security, cleanliness, and basically the number of food carts or street vendors is now crazy. For these reasons, it is better to go to places like Providencia, Ñuñoa or Las Condes (just because they're a little safer and less crowded), or even better go to Southern regions or quieter places. It's a shame that things have changed so much, but I hope you've managed to enjoy your trip regardless.

Sadly, Chile's security has been declining. Irregular migration and the arrival of criminals from Central America and the Caribbean have led to a deterioration in the quality of life in Chilean cities. We're seeing a sharp increase in crime, including serious offenses like kidnappings and murders, which were previously uncommon or unheard of in Chile. Furthermore, street vending is unsafe; the street food is very unhygienic and doesn't reflect our country's culture or cuisine. There was even an incident where a pet microchip was found in street food. I strongly advise tourists against buying food from street vendors.

Hey!, nice of you coming to my country, sadly, after the last Bachelet' presidency, she allowed pretty much anyone to come illegally into our country, so we have now more than 2 million inmigrants in our country, security and safety its at it lowests in years, there's big crime bands into our country and the politics have not been taken into consideration with this leftitst president we have now (boric), we are literally going into a sinkhole with this president and foreign inmigrants just do what they want in here. Besides that our country offers a lot to do and see, have a fun time and be safe!, visit Valdivia if you can!, lago ranco or lakes around... frutillar, pretty places to visit besides santiago!

That statement is false. Safety has been deteriorating for the past 15 years, and neither left-wing nor right-wing governments have addressed this problem correctly. Additionally, uncontrolled migration and the lack of opportunities for migrants are contributing factors. However, the problem has its roots in the educational system and inequality. Please, do not spread misinformation.

“ on the drive from the airport to the city centre, some of those neighbourhoods, looked a little rough…” Lol As if there are NO “rough looking neighbourhoods” in the US… Then he says: “I heard that the west side of the city supposed to be much better than the east side, so here I am on the west side…” He says this whist CLEARLY being on the EAST side…. #facepalm #americans

BROOO be careful, I'm Chilean and Santiago is NOT a safe city 😭😭 genuinely, please be careful; I wouldn't recommend carrying your camera out in the street like that either to be honest 😭 And Santiago is not the safest city in South America either, it's not even the safest city in Chile. There are many other much safer cities here Thank you for visiting our country by the way 🥹🇨🇱
