I've been here before! My wife and I got caught in the rain after visiting the temple in Kyoto, and all the shops were closed already so we couldn't even buy an umbrella. We ducked in here as they were still open for the next half hour and warmed up a bit and had that matcha pudding. I’m Japanese. You actually don’t eat the leaf for that version of the mochi. It’s meant to give flavor and scent but not meant to be eaten. (There are other types of mochi where you eat the outer leaf, where the texture of the mochi is not as smooth and the leaf is thinner)

Never had matcha. I live in a poorer city in the middle of the upper Midwest, we don’t get a lot of things so the only way I can get a lot of food that would be deemed too adventurous for people in my area I have to order it online and pay outrageous prices due to shipping and import fees.

Ooof. That's definitely a *choice* for Tiramisu 😄 I was really digging the concept but the creme left something to be desired. I'm sure it was delicious, esp since a good Tiramisu is a little bitter. The ONE thing I absolutely could not do is the wooden spoon. It matches the aesthetic, sure, but I'm getting shivers thinking about it!
