The claim that Truth is subjective is a Truth claim. It’s self defeating. That is fine to hold as an opinion, but I truly believe that Dickinson is saying that “Beauty is the Splendour of Truth” (Plato), that they are synonymous; as Beauty is what Truth always emanates. C.S Lewis also explores this idea in The Abolition of Man and so does Plato in The Republic.

Beautiful poem! I'm a terrible philosopher, so I'm probably bastardizing it, but Plato said Truth and Beauty are mutually exclusive and are both critical components of Goodness. Dickinson has two people lain to rest - together they died for goodness, which is what we should always strive for. The more I read Dickinson, the more and more I realize her true brilliance. Great analysis as always and thanks for introducing this poem to me.

Thanks for these videos. I've found some good stories through your channel. Have you read "The Stone" by Louise Erdrich? That's a lesser-known one that I like. Very interesting. Slightly "far-out."

Emily Dickinson's poem without the dashes in the video could possibly be a fake, so be careful of the Internet and use published works like books. Dickinson wrote out of a vacuum and was a highly educated woman, but in her poems she can be implicit. The speaker in Emily Dickinson's poems has been a problem for literary scholars for many years. There's a book on Emily Dickinson's letters and she writes normally. A must check out for Dickinson fans.
