I know exactly what you are talking about. My goddaughter has asked me to officiate at her Covid 19 wedding of 35 people where I will be wearing a mask and like you, it was supposed to be in June and I was wearing a light blue summer suit. It is now in October in New England where the temperature is not conducive to a light blue summer suit. So now I'm wearing navy blue silk and I am making a top to go with it and I am in full panic mode because the wedding is in two weeks! I so get it.

I’m watching this as I’m putting my kids’ homeschooling schedule binder together. I’m enjoying watching/listening to your progress as you work. When you talked about resetting the zipper for the 2 mm difference, my perfectionist self totally understood, but my practical self was yelling, “noooo! Don’t do it! Resist the temptation!” I say this because of all the things I’ve absolutely ruined by trying to get from very good to perfect. And no one, absolutely no one is going to notice a 2 mm difference unless they’re closer than is socially acceptable 😂, not to mention social distancing. So, I was very glad when you resisted the urge. I was probably more invested in your decision than is normal for someone who doesn’t even know you in real life 😂. Oh, and the dress is gorgeous! I too dislike polyester, but I totally sympathize with the budget considerations for a likely one or two time wear item. Though I could see that dress getting some wear at Christmas or Valentine’s Day as well. You did an outstanding job!
@RetroClaude

Thank you so much. The decision with the zip came down to the fact that I might end up with visible marks from the unpicking which would be much more noticeable. So I'm very proud of myself for letting that one go 💚

I don't usually comment on anything (although I am a huge fan of your videos) but needed to say that your dress is absolutely gorgeous - it's so beautifully constructed & such a lovely, flattering shape! I usually try to use natural fibres too but this fabric seems the perfect weight for this, especially as it won't be worn too often. I hope you all have a wonderful day at the wedding 😊

You did a super job and you look great. I have scoliosis also (as well as arthritis) and I admire what you are able to get done in the time you do. Cutting fabric is so hard for me, because no table height seems right and always produces back pain. I have introduced knitting because of your inspirational videos, but arthritis makes that hard. However, you are proof that any of us can make it happen. We just need to rest often, adapt when we need to and never say “can’t”! That you for your great videos.

Hello from Florida! I think your dress is really wonderful! The color does agree with you and the silhouette is adorable (and flattering). Congrats on your new sewing area. In your opening segment, I thought, at first, that you were wearing the blanket shawl to illustrate how well it co-ordinated colorwise to your floral print wrap waist dress. Which I love !! Stay safe but have a great time at the wedding!

Really enjoyed watching this chatty vlog! Kenneth D King from Threads has a great way of sewing an invisible zipper, without the invisible zipper foot (which I have and don't know if I'll use it again). He uses an adjustable zipper foot, which I was able to get for very cheap, but you need the Bernina adaptor shank - very handy to have one of those anyway. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mprPf5yLrtp_aJo

Where I'm from, wearing a red dress or a red tie at a wedding is a definite NO! It means you've slept with either the bride or the groom 😂 No idea why one would like to advertise that at their wedding or why it used to be a thing, Always asumed it was a US or UK thing that had made its way to us but I guess it can't be or she would've chosen another colour 😊

If you follow the 50% rule, that is you write off half the cost of the dress every time you wear it, you have an absolute bargain. 20 pounds for the fabric, wear it to your brothers wedding the dress now owes you 10 pound. Obviously, this does not factor in your labour. Even adding 100 pounds for your labour you have created a custom outfit that only needs a few outings to justify its cost. I agree using a polyester fabric is not ideal, but it serves its purpose and achieves the look you were looking for.
