At 2:29 he selects the VOX track, so later when he hits record it records directly into that track (despite being in "playback mode")

@@brodyoliverbassett7579 yes I think so...and because of that...isn’t the green light on the vox track supposed to turn red at 3:56..obviously there’s no shooting of the looper at that moment so I’m just assuming...

@@giuliotonini well, Ed’s loop pedal is pretty special, it doesn’t need to be in record mode to record to a track, so as long as the spinning circle is orange, it will be recording to the last selected track, so he’s kinda doing it blind. If you look at this short clip of happier, all the lights are green but he double taps the play button (once to start playing and then again to start overdubbing) and the spinning circle turns orange kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5TLpmacZZ2Xatk

These are very helpful. I'd emulated his rig using Ableton and Mobius, but had no idea about how his interface was set up and had to roll my own. (For instance I have 5 loops: Vocal, Guitar, Keys, Percussion, and one that takes input from all of them.) This has sparked a number of interesting things to try. Now I'm off to review the Mobius scripting language. ;)

His old pedal was virtually the same feature-wise, but looked a lot more ghetto and didn't have the Bank pedal and couldn't undo layers on individual tracks

As far as I know, Ed's equipment is custom-made, so I can't get it. Is there any equipment that is most similar to Ed's, or is there any really good equipment that Ed recommends?

You didn't miss anything, Spot on, if you mean the percussion. Seems he mutes the "Boom" channel for a couple of seconds and then unmutes "Boom" and "RC20" at roughly the same time

Hello! Your videos are very nice. I wanted to know how Ed Sheeran does the loop pedal. It helps me! I have one question. When he records his voice, I see that he is also playing guitar at the same time. Do both voice and guitar get recorded? I mean, I use rc 30, but when I record my voice, playing guitar at the same time, they both get recorded. Is there a way to get only voice recording with guitar playing? Thank you!

Well, it depends entirely on the channel, "Guitar" and "Boom" both only record the Guitar's output, "RC20" much like your loop pedal records Guitar and vocals at the same time, and "VOX" records only from the microphone. If you really needed to record vocals without recording guitar then you'd need an A/B Footswitch for the guitar output, so the signal can be routed around the loop pedal straight to the amp

From what I heard from this performance, when he was recording his voice the guitar is also getting recorded, I'm not sure if you can only record your voice when you're also playing the guitar, not sure though...

By the way, I know he has a boss tuner. Does that have anything to do with the recording? or is it just for tuning purpose? Thanks!

@@tomkimms Yes, at 0:43 he's recording both. It doesn't have to be a Boss footswitch, but as long as it is A/B . The Boss tuner is a TU-3 and he uses it on all his performances now, it's just for tuning purposes (Although fun fact he often uses it to mute the guitar, as when you press the pedal it effectively mutes the guitar output).

Hey, it isn't worth doing a full video on that as I've already done You Need Me. But from the video, I don't think he messed up, he checks everything and it seems like maybe a technical problem. Assuming he did mess up though, he could have either been on one of the first two tracks (which don't take input from that mic) or he wasn't in overdub mode, but both of these are unlikely knowing how well rehearsed Ed is
