This scene hit me so hard in the LN that I stopped reading for a few days when I got to Zenith's awakening few years ago, and seeing it animated now hit even harder. Rudy loses an arm -> Let's be positive that it's just an arm and hydra has been killed -> Paul gets chomped in half -> F&ck, they had to double down but let's still have a bit of optimism that at least we were able to save Zenith -> Zenith becomes close to a veggie -> Goddamn they really had to hurt me thrice!?

Agree, spoilers.............. Looks like we all read the LN. Honestly, the wonder is that how the author made this soooooooooooo traumatic, but then at the end of the LN, Rudy is able to look back without regret, even with these terrible events. Rudy is hurt, Roxy did something that is a bit morally ambiguous, Silphy is the most innocent in this scenerio, but then, somehow, the author made it all worthwhile at the end. It's just amazing.

You are wrong sir, if anything, the Anime didn't show Rudeus crying when he found Paul to give more impact at the end. Volume 5 - Chapter 4: Reunited When I looked up at Paul again, tears were streaming down his cheeks. It wasn't exactly a pretty picture. The man was sobbing like a baby. "I'm sorry.... I'm so sorry, Rudy..." Well, great. Now he's got me going too. I patted the back of Paul's head a few times. For a while, the two us us just cried together. And so, for the first time in five years, I was finally reunited with my father.

Had a feeling honestly, if it isn’t clear enough my memory of the LNs isn’t exactly concrete XD
@FrameFreakStudio6 ай бұрын
@@bluestReacts He does cry a couple of times by now, but you're right that the anime hasn't show (even in Season 1) how he sees "Rudeus" as an RPG character he designed and he thinks like he's just playing an RPG game in that world. In Volume 1 he even "designs the character" that he would play as Rudeus.
@bluestReacts6 ай бұрын
@@FrameFreakStudio - LN spoiler talk - yeah a MAJOR talking point of this series up until this point is how he kind of views Rudy as this character he plays as, but that really begins to change at the end of this arc, I’m super curious how they plan to adapt it because it really is a major turning point

This is aired on 16th of June, on International Father's Day. And it's widely celebrated and praised socially, having Paul die a hero protecting his son. For perspective, if a woman character died horribly and we got full view of her maimed body in any kind of female / girl / woman day, we'd be calling for the studio staff's heads on a platter. At least the U.S.A. ruling party was sensitive enough to sign the bill automatically enrolling all men 18-26 for the draft 2 days before the 16th.

For Rudy, ti was almost a decade, but for Paul, it was a little over six years. Remember that Rudy hadn't seen Zenith since being shipped off to Roa to teach Eris, and he spent almost three years there, from age seven to the day after his 10th birthday when the teleportation incident happened. I mean over six years is still a hell of a long time for Paul though. I have one problem with Rudy discussing Zenith as just being some roommate he had a decade ago. It was memories of his connection to Zenith that brought him out of his depression in the last episode of season 1 enough to finally leave the Fittoa refugee camp. If I remember correctly, the book handled the Fittoa camp differently, but the anime should remain consistent with itself. They should have just left out the line of him having no connection with Zenith. Maybe they should have given him another reason to be able to remain calm (like having dealt with a lot of other things in his life in the meantime as opposed to Paul who spent the last six years just looking for Zenith). Seen the episode a few times now, and it still breaks me.
@nguyendi926 ай бұрын
I think Rudy was gaslighting himself into thinking Zenith wouldnt matter to him. Some time, people under stress just shut off their emotion. He may just try to reasonalized why he is not feeling insane like Paul. But it is valid to not feeling or showing emotion when under stress. Even in the story, Lilia should be the one affect the most by Paul's death after Rudy. She spend the most time with Paul after the incident. She just wear "a stone cold mask" and did what needed to be done.
@kaguya69006 ай бұрын
@@nguyendi92 I think Rudy's rationalization works with the light novels, but the anime changed the Fittoa refugee camp section to make it a more emotionally resonant episode to end the first series with. And it screwed things up a little bit here. Still, I don't think many people noticed. I just tend to pick nits. I agree that Lilia would be more affected than Rudy, but also Norn would also be more affected than Rudy. She practically idolized her father.
@nguyendi926 ай бұрын
@@kaguya6900 That's why I said Rudy is gaslighting his own feeling. If you already read the light novel, you can see that Rudy is a really bad judge of his own emotion and other's emotion. I have to reread the LN so many times to finally see that Perugius didn't hate Rudy. Rudy just couldn't see past his permanent sour face and he thought Perugius just dislike him. Or He just keep thinking "Eris grew up, I am so proud" even though she grew up so so long ago, just have higher expectation for Eris, man. Rudy cared for Zenith way more than he realized, that's why he act like he did in the Millis Arc.
@Wesker19844 ай бұрын
It's been 6 years since Turning Point 1, not 10, the only reason Rudy hasn't seen Zenith for 9, nearly 10 years is because he got sent off to Roa.

It's been a long time an anime death has upset me so. At least he got to pop off before, but... man this feels horrible. I'd wager this is what man god meant when he said Rudy would regret going to help. Curious what'll happen with the hand, good ol prosthetic solution is probably likely.
@Hawkcam19966 ай бұрын
Remember how Roxy was *SECONDS* away from dying before *Rudy* showed up to save her? Remember how he only got to her in time because he brought that book with him that cut their travel time down, and he sensed her when no one else did? Remember how the only reason they found the hidden staircase was because *Rudy* recognized the similarity between that room and the teleportation ruins? Remember how *Rudy* was the one who thought of burning the neck stumps because of knowledge he had of mythology from his original world? Now, with all of that in mind, imagine if Rudy *didn’t* come. Roxy would’ve surely died. They would’ve taken *much* longer to find the boss room, *if* they would’ve found it at all, and, with less party members(no Roxy, no Rudy, and maybe not even Elinalise, since Rudy is the reason she got there in around a month instead of more than a year), they would’ve been *wiped out* against the boss, considering they were *barely* able to beat it *with* Rudy. Yeah, I don’t think Man God was being truthful. He would’ve regretted *not* going *FAR* more than going. And all of this is just going off of what we’ve already seen in the anime.
