The nanosecond that I noticed Josh was building a base in the purple vents I knew The chelicerate would show up, and it obviously did. Josh’s luck in avoiding leviathans and other dangerous creatures has run out.

She is, but at the same time... both games are mainly about how a balanced approach is best, rather than purely caution or aggression, so her survival flies in the face of the games' themes. As for specific stuff, she was hired to protect the survivors of the Degasi, yet because she couldn't agree to anything but violence, she got hauled away by an attacking Reaper - which came after 'she' brought another half-drugged one back to their base - leaving the other two alone, ultimately to die. (spoilers below) Moreover, she indirectly gets Sam killed in this game, because of her advising a violent approach... and is either blind or indifferent to the consequences, while game-wise it sucks that Robin can't even call out Maeda for it once this is found out. So I wouldn't call her a hero or anything tbh

She doesn’t care about authority, she’s very “survival of the fittest” in the most literal term because she 1v1s leviathans and wins. That’s why I like her

17:00 so the thing with the mercury two: it was actually the first ship sent to 4546b, before the whole alien gun and kharra thign happened. howver, parts of the crew were slowly infected, and when they tried to leave, the quarantine enforcement platform activated, shooting it down and blasting it into the chunks you find in game

While it's not a bad game it's abundantly clear that it is the DLC that it was originally designed to be artificially patted out to make a full game. And frankly the shoe horned into it actually ended up detracting from it rather than enhancing it. The main character of the first game Riley is so much more compelling than either of the 3 named characters in this game. And realistically it does not make Since al-an does not make contact with Riley but does with Robin. And on the surface it seems like altera killed Robin's sister because she was going to out them for making bio weapons.... But if you're actually redeeper in the logs there was no proof whatsoever that they were in fact making bio weapons. In fact the only thing that they have confirmed done was find a confirmed cure for kharra. It's kind of the same problem that Disney has with their main villain of wish, They wrote the villains so haphazardly that they've ended up actually making the villain more sympathetic than the hero.

Goes to show how knowledge feely helps with the fear factor in these games, as i was quite knowledgeable about the base game, and was looking forward to your first experiences with the various creatures throughout the sea. But i know next to nothing about Below Zero, and simply looking at those floating islands filled me with a sense of dread, same with whatever that *thing* swimming near your base was.

Since you scanned the snow stalker, yes, this is in fact the cousin/subspecies to the stalker in the first game. Evolved to become more terrestrial like a polar bear. Which I think is really cool. It's like the first area threat in the first game that you get over since there are bigger threats out there, and now it has a cousin that's, well, this glorious beast.

When I saw the initial spot they had picked out for a base I instantly recognized where they were. A certain shrimpy boi loves to swim around there. Edit: Josh thinking the Squidshark was the Whale despite the size difference is as frustrating as it is funny lol. Edit 2: Due to the apparent age of the wreck, It is suggested the Mercury II got shot down by the Quarantine Enforcement Platform either around the same time or even decades before the Degasi. Remember that the gun can angle the beam around the planet, so it can strike targets anywhere.

The Mercury II is the oldest craft that can be found on Planet 4546b. It was a ship owned by Sol one of the Trans-Govs in the game. Alterra is one of the other Trans-govs. The Mercury II was shot down by the Quarantine Enforcement Platform but was for one reason or another not damaged sufficiently enough to completely disable the ship and crew. Based off some voice logs that can be found it seems the survivors of the Mercury II were able to patch the ship up unaware of what exactly shot them down in the first place and then were shot and destroyed again trying to escape the planet. Due to the rusting of each section it is presumed that the ship is some 30-100yrs older than the Degasi, Aurora and Sunbeam. It also seems that the crew of the Mercury 2 either by Kharaa infection or as a result of being blown up.

Also some fascinating lore about the subnautica universe is basically all of the human federation is a collection of independent groups called trans-govs, the requirement to be a trans-gov is you must be big enough to control one solar system and have an operational phasegate. All trans-govs have to obey the law of the land established in the Charter which outlines protocols for trade, exploration and colonization. Sol and Alterra are presumably two of the largest trans-govs based solely on the size of their crafts. The Degasi belonged to the much smaller Torgal corp trans-gov who are actually part of the Mongolian Independent States, presumably a large collection of Trans-govs acting as one. Torgal corp fell on hard times after its founders disappeared on the degasi. Marguerite Maida the sole survivor was just a mercenary hired by Torgal corp to protect the founders.

The chelicerate is such a wet fart in terms of threat level and AI that you could probably feasibly set up a base on top of one and it couldn't meaningfully oppose you. Seriously, I once had one miss a strike on me while I was harvesting some plants and then it just sort of lumbered away defeated.
