Hi Baylee, I watch your videos partially because of your art (because it’s beautiful!) and also partially because of your personality. So, if you need to shift your focus that makes you happy and advance more as a person - do it. Sometimes it’s actually harder to take the first step, and I’m glad that you are! I know I’m gonna be here and watch every single art piece you post, whether it is speed painting or animation or a 10sec clip - I’ll be here. I’ll probably end up following your second channel too, even though I’m not a huge fan of vlogs 🤫. Much love, Nadine from Malaysia ❤️

For example if you did more stuff like your childhood ghost stories video ( the one we’re you drew the bunnies) I’d watch that it be really cool if you animated your stories. I think the problem is that they tend to be too niche and repetitive to be successful in KZbin's algorithm. If you look at the ones with the most views, they tend to have traits all successful youtube videos have: being topical, having some sort of gimmick (for art, that's usually being technically impressive like photo-realism or using MS Paint), or attracting children, an active fanbase, or horny people, yet even those videos tend to be one-hit-wonders. Speedpaints still have their audience, but for someone looking for a livable income, the base audience isn't big enough to support that goal, and I imagine doing MLP/creepypasta/FNAF/Undertale speedpaints specifically to appease the algorithm would burn out most people over the age of 14. KZbin hasn't been very hospitable for artists just trying to do art in a long time.

@AlottaBoulchit4 жыл бұрын
I've been trying to start a KZbin for years but constantly giving up because I feel discouraged by it. You hear so much from popular youtubers about the burnout and stress and chasing the algorithm so you start to think "why even bother if it's just going to make you miserable in the end?" The crappy part is these days yt popularity is the quickest way to financial freedom for an artist if you can get it to work.
@nekoloverx34 жыл бұрын
@@AlottaBoulchit I think what might help is thinking about why you're making videos - is it to eventually make a living? If so then worrying about what popular youtubers worry about might be productive but if you're just doing it for fun it might be less stressful to use this platform for what ever you're personally making videos for. I've been making youtube videos to try to document my journey as an artist and learn more about my process and I feel almost no stress about it - obviously I'd like more views but I'm not making money off of it so it's fun for me. Finding your motivation can make things a lot more enjoyable, at least for me. I'm kind of rambling, my bad. I hope what I've said makes sense and maybe gives you some inspiration.
@AlottaBoulchit4 жыл бұрын
@@nekoloverx3 hehe I'm a rambler myself so I totally got you 💖 Yeah I understand what you're saying! With the channel I wanted to start i just wanted to do things I enjoyed. Like I've heard "people don't like" when channels have different video content to what they subscribed for so it was encouraged people make multiple channels dedicated to one or a few related topics. That feels like a huge hassle I wouldn't want to do. LOL So I was just gonna keep all my stuff under one roof. They're my interests and my projects and I just wanted to share them. If people joined me that's great. Though not gonna lie I want to be able to make a living with my art too. LOL So worrying about that part of running a channel is important to keep in mind as well. Sometimes it just feels so daunting and editing feels scary. The thought of doing all this and coming out empty also feels scary. Haha

i see this same internal conflict happening w a lot of creators who make it big on the internet. I love them too and they don't need to have special conversations either. I personally don't care if every video is an explanation of the process with similarities between each piece. Repetition is one way that people learn things and as an artist always on the look out for new ways of doing things... I'd then be able to learn from them. Lmao Maybe I'm just odd but I do watch other good artists to try and absorb their processes because I'm most fascinated by how others do their work and how different or similar it is to my own. 😂

@@AlottaBoulchit I agree, not to mention that the main reason people become youtubers is that they love what they're doing! KZbin is a unique opportunity for people to make a living with unconventional activities. Just because their interests shift or they tire of doing the same thing, doesn't mean that they were coerced by the algorithm from the very start lol
@pendlera29594 жыл бұрын
If the algorithm pushes people to create too often or to invest too much time/money, then it's going to make people burn out more quickly. While coercion is a bit too strong of a word, we do need to acknowledge that KZbin has a monopoly here, and working too hard and getting some pay vs going at your own pace and getting no pay are both bad options. When people have to choose between multiple bad options, you can't blame them for their suffering.
@riseabove31334 жыл бұрын
It’s also why people lose interest in watching KZbin. The more YT manipulates suggested video away from what matches what the viewer likes to watch - and pushes toward what KZbin WANTS us to watch... the less interesting the whole thing is. I also find all the “high production value” kind of a turn off. Google ruined KZbin’s charm. Might as well just watch cable TV with what they’ve turned YT into. Good video, Baylee. Very honest and genuine struggle.

Hey Baylee, I've watched you for a few years now and I am so thankful for how honest you are in this video (about KZbin, about your art, about your business, etc.). I feel like some of your videos are made or titled for "clicks" (as you've admitted) and therefore it makes the content not worth the hype. But this was AMAZING! I too am someone who worked 40+hours a week in the creative field. Four years ago, I quit my job to work someplace completely different so that I don't get burnt out or sacrifice my creativity producing content I would not otherwise do. Having a job where I don't dive head-first into art, means that when I get home, I am happily diving head-first into the art that I want to do. A lot of people don't understand that creative types are finicky from the start--it's how we make things that are unique, spontaneous and reflective of how we're feeling at that moment. I used to think that wanting a change from the daily routine of constantly making art meant that I wasn't as passionate as I thought but the truth is, art comes from change. Mediums and technique change, but so do people. I admire and want to thank you again for your honesty. Whatever you decide to do, you will excel. And who knows, you might come back to it later. Just as you left animation and are considering going back to it again. Will continue to support :)

I hope you'll find a way to put that enthousiasm back into the videos, no matter how often they get posted. I adore your vlogs and it's so nice that you're so honest with us, really gives the feeling that I know you! It would be great just to see a happy Baylee creating something she absolutely loves and loves doing, than to have a video once a week! Love you Baylee!

I'm so sorry you feel this way. I've been subscribed to your channel since I was 12 and I'm 19 now. Take as much time as you need to take a break, relax, do anything you need or want. It's never good to force yourself to do something you don't want to do because you may end up hating it. I used to draw a lot but I stopped because I didn't really find it fun anymore. However recently I started sketching again and I've found a new love for drawing. Don't limit yourself and don't force yourself. We are all here for you :)

Beautiful study. Honestly, when you first bought the oil paints, I was super excited to see you use them more and I was super excited when this video came out. I remember in a vlog you were talking about how stressed you were because one of your videos weren't getting as much views and you did literally everything to try to make it more appealing and at the moment I felt really bad because I saw the struggle since a the time KZbin was you #1 priority so hearing you be able to move to make a store made me super happy for all of success. I see what you mean about speedpaints being super boring and honestly whenever I am watching a sketchbook tour or a speedpaint I usually have it sped up just to see how the art unfolds. I think an interesting video for this channel could be just a monthly- 3 month update of all the work you have done. One of other favorite artists only records her painting when she feels like recording and she rarely uploads. So for example you could work in several things you want to work on and just put it all in one video together and then seperate them for Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok, etc. Just know I think you are doing a wonderful job and I love the way your art has progressed since I first started watching you (via the time you made an intro for Daily Bumps). Keep at it girl! You got this!

First of all this art is absolutely breathtaking. So gorgeous Baylee! Secondly, you do what makes you happy and what makes you feel most productive within your comfort zone. You have so much on your plate and KZbin should make you happy and what makes you feel the most fulfilled. I completely understand feeling rushed to upload content and then in turn feeling rushed to finish your current project. I love your content, be it art videos, vlogs, or just live-streams. Forget keeping up with “The Jones’” and focus on quality and what makes you feel the most creative and happy. You have a faithful following that will more than likely watch whatever content you put up. I’m actually excited to see art by you that is more from the heart and time consuming than rushed for contents sake. Don’t feel like you have failed. Your priorities have shifted for the good!!!! I’m proud of you Baylee!

My therapist actually tells me the writing every possibility is perfect in not letting anxiety make your decisions for you. - I think what interest me the most on KZbin when I watch artists on KZbin now, after years of being on here - it’s not really what people do but who people are. Podcast type content is usually what I go to or getting information or vlogs about people’s experiences- basically speedpaints have been dead since 2012. I think this is why the art community is highly volatile and isolated into subsections- for instance, I follow TONS of comic artists on KZbin but they stick to themselves. What makes you so unique Baylee is that you have success in everything you do and even though this sounds great, it could end tomorrow or become unhealthy for you. I think people like you, and no matter what you decide I trust that people will like what you decide to do.

Baylee, I am so proud and inspired by your growth as an artist, business professional, and KZbin creator. I remember when most of your time was dedicated to working at the animation studio, pulling late nights doing art in the little apartment, and paying off student loans. It was amazing to see you evolve your art career and your passion as a creator on multiple platforms. Congratulations on all your success! I hope the art community on KZbin can become a space for creative freedom again and not cage artists into chasing trends and views. You have worked so hard and you deserve to have fun with whatever you do next!

I 100% understand where you're coming from! I'm an artist who draws 4 times a day at least but i haven't done any art in 5 week (longest I haven't done any art). I'm happy to say I'm painting and drawing again, but I needed a break to realize how much I missed it, and other aspects i didn't miss! You need to do what's right for you and let the true you shine through (screw it if no one else like it!) ❤ We are all always here to love and support you no matter what!

I'm happy you put this out. I'm having the same issue with my channel, I'm known for junk journals and it's the last thing I want to do anymore, and it's gotten people kind of upset. But I've just lost the fun in it, and like you I've started thinking of video ideas before actual art ideas first. But people just don't seem to understand the work behind filming art in an entertaining way.

I remember watching you when I was a little kid. You inspired me to start drawing, in fact, i recall making a channel years ago just to post the video i made of me coloring your linearity. And the reason i thought it would be so great to post was because i learned that art can be shaded and blended and so many other things by your channel. Even though i grew up watching you, im not that same person anymore. And neither are you. So no matter which direction you grow to, art related or not, ill be here for you as you were for me. Thank you bailee

First of all; this painting turned out so amazing! Second; as someone who watches the vlogs and the streams I knew this video was coming, and I’m so glad you are so honest with us and most importantly to yourself. ❤️ And so I’m gonna be honest too. When you did Vlarch I realized just how much I love your vlogs. Even to the point where I prefer them over the art videos (which is very surprising since I don’t watch any other vlogs). I have become more interested in you as a person than you as an Art KZbinr (even though you are my number 1). There’s so many other talented artists here on KZbin, but only one Baylee. And in the vlogs I get to see and know her more. Your awesome personality isn’t really visible in the art videos. And I also love the streams, where it’s like a dysfunctional but very loving family 😂 I guess I’m trying to say that I’m not here because of nice thumbnails and algorithm. I’m here because it’s you. So I’ll stay no matter what you do or how often you post ❤️

Baylee, almost halfway through I feel very inclined to pause and tell you that there actually is a market online for speedpaints and 'art-focused art videos' on KZbin. I understand that it doesn't seem like that but recently I realised that art KZbin is larger than I thought and there IS a way to do things that aren't 'gimmicky'. I'm confident you can try out these ideas or methods to creating KZbin videos and I believe there is an audience for them. Please don't feel you have to do things this way just so that people would watch Q~Q

Oh gawd, you have no idea how validating this is to hear. Everything you are talking about is something that has either crossed my mind or been a huge wake up call. I tried for a while to have a video out every week while also juggling school/work. After realizing I was angry at "having" to be at a birthday party because I wasn't at home, in front of my computer, editing videos, I had to stop myself and reevaluate my priorities. Last year I graduated as a graphic designer and was ecstatic to start freelancing. I tried getting back into KZbin, but I ended up completely neglecting my budding business. Also, videos felt like a chore, and in extension of that, art felt like a chore. Again, I had to reevaluate. Now, I primarily do vlogs, both, as you talked about, I find them much more easy to watch while working on other stuff and it's so much easier to get business stuff done while vlogging. Now, KZbin is no longer stressing me out, but somehow some kind of cozy documentation of my work-life. Today, I've been working on a watercolour piece while filming and I kept getting irritated at the camera being all up in my business, haha. I just wanted to push it away. This is a part of a series already ongoing, so I will probably keep filming, but I do have to take a REALLY hard look at how. Thank you for this video. Do what makes you happy, do what makes your days work. Much love 💚

this was not a surprising video and i'm glad you're making the change that will make you happy. It took me a while myself to realize I didn't like filming art videos anymore, it became more obvious as my etsy store started to be my main income source and youtube wasn't bringing anything, It got to a point where I was so unhappy the content I was making that it made no sense to keep recording. ATM i'm still filming stuff that will be posted on my channel but there's zero expectations or pressure to do any of it, i'm going to record the content that makes me happy. I'm sure you'll find it ! also this painting study is showing me and people that your skillsket is way higher than what you're used to show us. It feels like to me you're not diving into your art enough because of pressure to post and I believe it's the right time to start making what your heart really wants :) I'm looking foward to see anything you'll create ! I personnaly enjoyed looking at this timelaspe because it was different from what you post usually. I stopped making artvideos because nowadays it's not just the art that people want to see, it's the crazy entertainment content. and to me that content is actually not what I like to watch. I guess you get the audience you asked for ultimately but what matters when you're not relying on income from youtube is not what people would like to watch but what YOU like to watch and what you like to make. I personnally stopped watching a lot of "older" art youtubers that went on the entertainment root more than the art route. I started following other creators that had a narrative and still an entertaintment aspect like Minnie Small or Jean Reno. It's still focused on art but the editing is so on point it feels very relaxing and interesting. It's like a vlog mixed with a topic and art all together. It's still focused a lot on the process of the art piece. I'm so on board with everything you said, no relying on income from YT allowed me so much freedom. I reposted recently and had like 1000 views. It bummed me a bit, I was expecting low views, but what bothered me more is the 71K subs that didn't see it. KZbin hides our content :( I do watch your vlogs every time (sometimes I need to catch up lol) but I haven't watched ur art videos in 4 months. It just means it doesn't appeal to me but what matters is does it appeal to you ? do you want to watch your own content ? if not, then you know what to do :) go Bayls !

I fully support your decision to cut back on videos. At least for me, your personality is what makes your content good and original above all else. So as Long as you spend your precious hours doing what you love, you’re on the right track. I’m 17 now and will continue watching your vlogs, and other content as long as it’s around. Thanks for the amazing videos and stay true to yourself.

Bayle, I've been watching your videos for 8 years. I started watching them when I was a really young kid, finding out about art, now I'm 19 years old and I've finished art high school because of the inspirations you're videos 8 years ago gave me. I'm applying for the applied arts college and you are the reason everything started for me. Right now, I don't even like cartoon girls illustrations anymore but I still watch you because you've been an inspiraing woman to me. As an artist, I understand your emotions about youtube and art. Don't think about video, think about yourself and your own art. Things you create represent you and do it for yourself and I'm sure even then you will be an inspiration to some new kids. Always do what ever suits you, I wish you all the best and thank you for helping me find my way! Love you Bayle, greetings from Serbia!

I watch this channel for a few years... I discovered copics through you. So think of me as friend lmao I feel like the quality of your art dropped. Not because you're not evolving, but because you've been pushing yourself into those challenges for the entertainment and being quick and etc... This video, the painting is soooooo beautiful! I remember you said you would do like 1 video per week than out of nowhere you changed your mind to 2 videos again and I got surprised. And I think that drained you. I'm not into vlogs in general but I do like seeing the updates related to art like your store, or the diamond painting. So, please, take your time. Focus on you and your art. I like speedpaints, I also like when you do dumbass stuff like poppy or squidward art. I really think you need this time off, and worry less with the views and more with the practice. Like you did with the diamond painting. I know you live from this (or at least used to), but the more you force it the worst you will feel, and so will be video. AND PLEASE DO THE OIL PAINTS ALREADY, THEY'RE LIKE YOUR NEW YEAR'S GOAL FOR 2? 3 YEARS? HSUSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHDHDHDU I would gladly wait two months for a video if you have to. You own this to yourself and your mental health. As for me, like I said, think of me as a friend. I'll support you and watch the video whenever it comes 💛
