Ah, another one of these descriptions to write. Well, I never thought the day would come. I don't recommend the app Duolingo any longer. Two things have started to completely turn me away from the app. If you're a new learner solely using Duolingo, you need to see this.

I just wanted to clarify, I'm not saying, nor do I think you should stop using Duolingo. It's free, and for many it's the only option out there for language learning. I just want to say how much it has become apparent to me that using Duolingo for most of your language acquisition (which is what I was doing), isn't the most beneficial, and in time you'll start to use the app less, reducing its effectiveness. I didn't touch on the weird sentences today, I just wanted to talk about the highly discouraging heart system. Free Language Learning Websites: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqGoZWV7atVnY6c

I agree with you, I'm spending so much time trying to stay in the Diamond league, I've not been learning any new words. It was only when I looked at the profiles of my followers and saw that they had learnt upwards of 1300 to 1800+ words after one year while I had learnt just 800+ words in last 2 years. Not gonna lie, I'm not enjoying it like I used too. 😕🤔

@@SweetPea2022 Wow. That's really terrible. I would suggest to not focus on the leagues. I understand though! it's soo hard because as I mentioned in the video, they will push it on you so much and it feels makes you feel like a failure if you don't rise in the leagues... even if rising in the leagues isn't even the goal.

As I mentioned, you don't need to pay for hearts on the free version if you don't want to. You can practise to earn hearts. That's been the case for a long, long time. It's a great system and you even earn XP on each practice lesson. Perhaps you weren't paying proper attention. Duolingo has always promised to keep language learning totally free. Paying for stuff is optional. I ended up in the top 10 of the Diamond League just using the free version and I learned a great deal.

My lingot version just changed to the heart mode today, which finally makes it impossible to use duolingo for free anymore. You get punished to make misstakes....! After 8 year using it daily, I stop. So sad to see another app mess sup their app because of greediness :(

I was once one of the most dedicated users. First they remove immersion, then they remove timed practice, then they remove the discussion forum, and what happened to all the upcoming languages? Were they just cancelled? Did they fire all their volunteers? It's now slow and frustrating don't bother with it, it will only get worse

Hi- You can refill your Duolingo hearts for free by repeating previously completed GOLD LEVEL activities in any of your languages. I do agree that there are things about Duolingo’s game-like nature that are turning me off: I don’t need to practice the activities that are gold already. They aren’t challenging enough. The “race the timer” activities only practice beginner vocab AND the speed of your hand-eye coordination. The iPhone app users can’t earn as many points for the same activities as computer users score. Doing “leagues” kept me using the app, but instead of trying for higher levels, I would often repeat lower activities (so I learned nothing) just to get to the next league. I’ve been in Diamond League a long time now, so long I feel this is an obsessive-compulsive thing, not an admirable trait. I have found this level so competitive that to stay in there, I actual skip a few days which the most seriously competitive users don’t, so the scores aren’t as unreasonable. If not for this level of competitiveness, I’d used Duolingo more often. I’ve set myself a goal of being in Diamond league for the rest of the year, then I’ll turn off viewing the leagues so I can just focus on learning some of the more advanced aspects of language learning that Duolingo offers. I’ve already listened to all the podcasts and participated in all the interactive stories. There are some more advanced grammar topics I can use practice with. in summary, learning languages should be more fun than the Duolingo “leagues game” has made it, but doing the activities (minus the leagues) can be a fun way to get into a language. The points for spaced repetitions need to lead to higher level activities than the completed beginner levels.

The discussion forum is very likely got removed because of EU regulations about making things more safe for children. So the duolingo has to follow the regulations since they want to sell the product on the EU markets too. And that's why they removed the forum, because they didn't want to invest in better moderation and stuff to qualify for the regulations. Even if they not telling it publicly, but it's clear as sun if you think about it.

The leagues on Duolingo mean absolutely NOTHING. I was in the Obsidian league and wanted to start over. So, I reset and all that happened was I started over with lesson number one, but I stayed in Obsidian league. AND kept my position and points. I could have climbed to first place while still working on lesson one! I was pretty upset considering the competition is what made it more fun to me. Well...now you know how to get in a top position while just going over lessons you have already done.

My opinion is that duolingo isn’t good, but at least its not as bad as some other apps. So i stopped using it at about 200 day streak. It has lots of languages, but theyve slowly stopped making new ones. I also feel like its more about cute animations and games rather than learning a language. But its just my opinion, so other people might have different ones

Duolingo is great. Have you used any other apps? I used rosetta stone and failed multiple times because why it teaches you some core words, but it doesn't teach you any supporting laguage or sentence structure. Did you actually use the app because you get hearts for practicing. I have two other paid apps one which is just reciting which I use while running, the other is rosetta stone which I use only when the internet is out, but I learn so much faster through duolingo.

👍Exactly. 😩😞🤨I was also wondering how people were getting so many XPs so fast. I study many languages and I’m proud to fairly achieve the levels I achieve without cheating. It’s sad that people are more concerned about “winning” XPs and levels instead of actually learning the language(s). 😩🤨

In my opinion, duolingo should remove leagues, people now think it's a game, and just uses duolingo for the XP, which is dumb they're not learning, they're doing lessons for XP.
@GarnetsWeb
@GarnetsWeb Жыл бұрын
@@knightthenerfer I never thought about removing the leagues altogether, but that's honestly a good idea. I just think the public factor of the leaderboard causes unnecessary feelings of defeat, as well as constant notifications. Perhaps they could refine the leaderboard a bit. If they're going to keep these "hearts" in the game, maybe have each league you level up in give more hearts instead of it being basically useless.

Thanks for your video but I think you miss the point of hearts and a leader board. I use Duo Lingo but ignore the leader board. I am learning at a pace I am comfortable with, I don’t need to be in some competition to do the lessons, but there are people who would benefit from the competition. It works for me that way. Now the hearts thing is purely a way to push you towards paying for the pro version. It’s a business they have to make money and why not, an awful lot of work must have gone into creating Duo Lingo. So be happy you can use an excellent programme for ‘free’ or pay to remove hearts and ads.
