We've always had a core of decent players, Eriksen, one of the best in Europe at the time couldn't get a tune out of the best collection of players in 40 years. Capello, multiple League and CL winner couldn't. Hodgson couldn't get out the group stage. Southgate's created a team spirit and made us one of the best sides in the world.

The only problem is the championship fodder manager/coaches. If Kane's not fit, Bellingham can play the false 9 role and Gallagher/Mainoo can add legs to the midfield. The defence just needs TAA playing inverted LB, not Trippier and Rice actually playing 6 in front of them. Rice was playing like an 8 against Iceland. It was ridiculous. Too many people (pundits and commentators) brushing the defeat off as ‘not important’ are asking for trouble. Losing is a habit that needs to be avoided. If Southgate hasn’t prepared the team by now, he never will! The preferred starting 11 should be starting in all warm up games, not hoping it all falls into place by magic when the tournament starts.

We’ve done well in recent years modernising bringing young talent through on the pitch, the thing is we haven’t done the same with managers…. We need to double down on bringing in and training young English managers. Then actually choosing the best to manage England. I think the last top English manager was either Venables or Robson.

It was actually quite simple, Shaw, Stones and Maguire were all dodgy with injuries so those who should have gone to the Euros were: Mitchell, Branthwaite and Tomori. They all were not picked by Southgate. A terrible mistake. Also, Grealish should have gone instead of Grealish. Gordon just hurled hopeful balls into the box with no end-result. Foden was free in many occassions and Gordon never passed to him.

that was a good unbiased analysis from Rob Dorsett, people need to be realistic about England's chances and stop saying they are favourites.....how are they favourites when they can't beat top opposition when it really matters? they will be up against countries that have been there, done it and gotten the t-shirt, they lack experience of getting through the final hurdle and their defence is super weak but England fans and England pundits always over inflate their expectations of this sqaud...stop hyping them up and thinking they are better than they actually are when they have won nothing and still have lots to prove on the big stage.

Southgate will probably have the players playing darts with the media or playing childish games in the pool. Also, no doubt, he will allow the WAGs to bring their circus over as well. It is this kind of nonsense and unprofessionalism that has cost us dear over the years and no doubt will cost us again. Southgate talks about meticulous planning for games, forgetting the most important ingredients of all...heart, fight, bottle and desire. It is normal for teams to take on the DNA of their managers...sadly that is also the case with Southgate. He can talk the talk...but just like his penalty miss in Euro 96, he cannot walk the walk.

Given less than 30 min, Grealish and Madisson saved the day against Bosnia, so the management decided to leave them out... I find it hard to understand. Perhaps, the decision about the 26 involved was made well ahead of the friendlies, and Grealish and Madisson shouldn't get any chance to impress against Iceland. Thus, the "mess" was successfully avoided.

The problem with the defense isn't that Maguire isn't there. Fit or not, he's been terrible for years. That he's considered integral is an indicator of just how fragile their defense is. Shaw is a slightly different case, but his play the past few years has also been inconsistent at best. Neither one of them has been considered an automatic inclusion for their club, and United have been weak on defense all season, so that's glaring.

I feel like people are overreacting just a touch. I mean it was only a friendly and as Gareth said in his post match presser, players often hold back in these games because they really don’t want to pick up an injury before the Euros. However, I think we’ve played poorly for a few games now. The Brazil game in particular stands out because we never really looked like scoring whereas Brazil won comfortably and weren’t even playing a striker.
