I hope Kane listens to what Gary said in this video. Great advice. Saw on numerous occasions he has the ball either too deep or wide when he should be the one in the middle waiting for the ball and score. He wasn't even at False 9 position. Foden / Bellingham / Saka are used to fluid systems at their clubs so they can adapt but they cannot carry a player upfront who doesn't press well or constantly out of position. If that happened with Pep he will drop you.

Both wingers and fullbacks need to penetrate deeper into the halfway line, believing in Kane. In midfield matches, penetration should take place more often, and when an opponent falls down, England must wide both sides and attract the opponent. Always build up of fullbacks, wingers and midfielders on the side to create space to target the down opponent with cutbacks. A prepared set-piece strategy should be the next best option.

No one else is mentioning the blindingly obvious fact here that is that England , Saka aside , have no pace at all. Saka has been clearly our most dangerous player and thats no coincidence. Someone needs to tell Kane to stay upfield (or no further back than an 8 position) but fundamentally the lack of pace is killing us. Bowen and Eze arent the answer , Gordon may well be.

The English players don’t want to risk getting injured and getting dropped from their clubs next season. Too much money involved in transfers and salaries. They score a goal for England which is just enough and then go into defensive mode. They are not going to run with the ball and risk getting injured just so England can win the Cup. Alan Shearer is right, Gordon will pair well with Harry Kane upfront with Saka...but Gordon is Southgate's secret weapon for the knock-out stages where we will meet the likes of Germany and France. My fear is we haven't found a way of unlocking the defensive low-ranked teams which can unexpectedly knock out a big team and this is typical of EUROs tournament...recall that Greece in 2004 was very low ranked in that tournament but they went on to win.

After 2004 Rooney was crap for England. He will tell you himself. Kane is a huge part of why the team drops off and can't complete passes, he keeps dropping into midifield and doesn't put enough pressure on the backline to stretch teams. Don’t forget we are watching English football and not Premiership football. Our guys operate differently when they play with other English players. Most Saturdays they are all playing with world class foreign players. There aren’t now. English football is different to Premiership football. We expect too much from them. It’s a different level! Sure we have some world class players, but they are only world class because they are playing with other world class players who cause them to raise their game each week. English football is far too predictable. Always has been. We won’t get to the final. Doubt if we’ll get past the next round after the group stages. Possibly the quarters and that’s it. This will Southgates last tournament. Time for a change, but whoever comes in, they won’t change the way the English play the game. Finally, on a positive not, this is tournament football. Regardless of last nights result, we are top of our group. If we played like that and won the Euros, Lineker and Shearer would be singing Southgates praises and saying how wonderful the team was! I’m not surprised at all. English league is not the strongest one for sure. Spanish German Italian and French are much stronger and more important better for young players and development. This English Team even proofs that as the best English stars are playing abroad (Foden is an exception). There is no way they can compete with Spain Germany France or Italy. Technically they can’t stand with them, Physically possible, Tactically no, Mentally big no. Money don’t make you the best League or best Team. Kane needs proper wingers to succeed. At Tottenham he had Son and Dejan, at Bayern he had Sane and Gnarby keeping the width allowing him to drop deep and get the ball. Foden and Jude takes up the space too often, nullifying Kane's full potential.
