How many established, well seasoned queens struggle on the show despite being pioneers of their craft: Onjina, Jasmine Masters, Katya, Latrice, the list goes on. Listening to Lady Bunny talk about why she doesn't ever want to compete on the show, and why she thinks its commodified drag and standardized (flattened) it for the sake of branding rings true. Not all queens need to be polished, not all queens have the ability to make and spend enough money to meet the shows oppulent standards. At the end of the day its the format of the show that does a disservice to the queens, not the queens themselves. Its a competition designed to have winners and losers, by its very nature it provokes the audience to be hyper critical of people who are actually far more talented than most of us.

Let's be real about this. It was a moment scripted to get people talking about Ru and the show. And it worked. It is like Tyra Banks exploding during one of the early seasons of ANTM. Producers set up things like this and people fall for it. In Joe's case, he had no expectation of a return to the competition. Relatively little notice of it. And several months of very limited earning opportunities. So he needs to be cut some slack. Plus girl group/pop looka are not something he would have in stock.
