This is honestly moving in a way. It’s the first time I can remember Homer and Marge having a wonderful time together that wasn’t proceeded or preceded by utter chaos and the all-important mischief required by syndicated fiction. Marge gets her dream. Homer has a ball eating escargot, shells and all 😂 The characters are quite themselves, but are offered a bit of respite from the mayhem of their daily lives, and in good taste. Sure it could just be read as a corporate marketing stunt, but this feels more “Simpsons” than the Simpsons has felt in years.

The first few seasons which are seen as “classic” simpsons featured a really broken family, that still was a loving family. We see Homer as incompetent, but still attempting to be a good father and husband. The newer episodes removed the good father and husband aspect, which is why they feel soulless. This episode feels good because it’s reminiscent of the old episodes. Homer can’t afford to buy marge the outfit she wants, but he still finds a way to get it for her… classic simpsons.
