I Don't Want a VR Call of Duty

Rumors that there might be a Call of Duty VR in the works has me thinking, would I even want that? Would it even be good? While Modern Warfare and all other COD games are fantastic games, I have my doubts that Activision could pull off a good AAA VR. So far the only AAA VR game that I actually like has been Valve's Half Life: Alyx. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond was a disappointment, and no other big dev company has impressed me.

the only thing I would hope for is that some of the devs to play half life alyx with the developer commentary on and take notes, but then I realize that would never happen and many modern devs only in it for the money.

I was literally just talking to one of the devs behind VAIL, and he was telling me how he jumped into Alyx again over the weekend, because he likes to periodically

We don't need a real Call of Duty VR because we basically have it. And it comes with tons of free maps and game modes. It cost $20 and is crossbuy with Quest and PCVR. No micro-transcations, artificial grind, P2W mechanics, loot boxes for $70 + Paid DLC map packs ($50).

To your point, it's really been disappointing how poorly triple A studios have handled VR. They're a joke. And they should be embarrassed by how much better indie studios have done. What really gets me is how obvious it is that apparently nobody at triple A studios actually uses VR despite spending time writing code for it. The rookie mistakes that they make are _simple and obvious_ to anyone who has spent even a little time playing well refined VR games from already established VR studios.

The thing is. A lot of AAA devs don't know the practices of VR. They're told by higher ups to do this and that because it's new and cool, but they have no experience in that medium so they're forced to make guess work. I don't think it's fair to compare an indie dev who has the full understanding of the fundamentals of a VR game, because it's still a fairly niche thing in the mainstream of things, to a AAA Flatscreen dev who writes code for an FPS being forced into a medium they're not familiar with.

@@AurAGFX But that's exactly my point. I can understand their teams starting with not having experience writing VR code, but having no apparent experience even using it is not excusable. That's akin to a company deciding that it wants to work on building cars, but nobody there can be bothered to learn how to drive or even cares about cars. So they come out with their own car which has digital "Turn left" and "Turn right" blade switches in the middle of an otherwise blank dashboard, the gas is a toggle button on the ceiling, and the brake control is in the glove box on the passenger side, and you have to break glass to push it.

well if Activison ( known for making perfect games ) makes a good call of duty game maybe player counts for contractors and pavlov will dwindle...

Were these all played on your computer? Are they as good on the Oculus?

PC versions def looks a lot better. However ContractorsVR I would say ur getting the same exact experience. In fact its cross-buy on the Oculus so if you decide to get a PC in the future you will automatically own the PCVR version. I have a 3080 and yes the FPS is better at 120fps vs 90fps? on the Quest 2, resolution is much higher on the PC and the graphics are a lot better but this the same exact game. I in fact play both versions.

I'd like to think MW2's VR will only be a singleplayer showcase of what's possible, mainly for people who don't have PCVR and have no first hand experience with a proper PCVR game. I say this mainly because they don't want another rift in their playerbase. The same thing happened with IW and MWR releasing simultaneously and people picked the better game which wasn't a main title.
