This footage was first thought to be a conceptual art piece produced by the band before making music videos had become standard music industry practice. While the exact date and circumstances under which it was produced are unclear, the anonymous donor of the footage claims that it had been screened to students for nearly twenty years as part of the public school curriculum, until its use was discontinued in 1984…

Ok wait this is my first video so let me get this straight (and correct me where I’m wrong, I’m just writing down what I read from other comments): This is a band. And though the music videos, this band tells the a story of a band from the 60’s that never got popular and had some music videos on VHS, which were then found by some random kid a while ago who decided to upload the stuff on VHS on a KZbin channel. That channel is supposed to be the channel we are all currently on. So this is kinda like an ARG. Did I get that right? Edit: I DONT ACTUALLY KNOW IF ANY OF THIS IS CANON I JUST READ A BUNCH OF COMMENTS

Fun fact, the little jingle in the end credits is off a vinyl called "Music from Mathematics" pressed by Decca for what I assume for only a year back in the 60s. The track is Beat Canon by John Robinson Pierce. Also includes the 7090 singing "Bicycle Built for Two". Little piece of computing history.

I showed this to my mother who is a Valley Girl who loves New Wave and she adored this and immediately started to asks about what else you guys do. It was a flashback to what she loved about the music she grew up with and the visuals reminded her of her father's work during the Cold War (he would have loved this too if he were still alive). Totally made her day, thanks!

I am 54 in a month so possibly your mother's age. I am not sure why KZbin's algorithm suggested this to me but it is the perfect marriage of early 80s New Wave, Cold War aesthetics and modern hipster precision. My parents had this exact shade of orange kitchen in 1972, and my dad was an early computer scientist. We had a reel-to-reel tape deck in the living room. Everything about this band is absolutely perfect. It's like David Bowie, Talking Heads and The Human League had a love child and fed it to a 60's analog synth.

The outro for this video is a recreation of the credits from a short film called ''The Incredible Machine'' from the 60's, which touches several cutting edge computer topics such as voice generation and computer animation. The music in that section is a fragment of a song called ''Beat Canon'' that came in a Bell Labs LP called ''Music from Mathematics''. Both of these things can be found on youtube.

I love the colors and props used in this. So much so, that I did a deep dive on what they were... - The "mic" and PA that Dallon uses is an IVAC Corporation "IVAC 630" volumetric infusion pump. It came in orange. It did not come with a mic. - Computer in front of the pneumatic horn section is a New Brunswick Scientific ML-4100 Multi Loop Microprocessor Controller (used for operating a scientific fermenter/bioreactor). Appears to be painted orange for the video. - Other "device" in front of the horns section is a Scantron 888P+ optical scoring machine, also painted orange. - Above the simulated reel-to-reel computer is a Burleigh CE-2000 Three-Axis Inchworm Controller (originally came in orange) (For the life of me, I could not figure out what that camera was... I'm guessing Polaroid but find nothing relatively close in searches)
