I used to go the Bridgwater carnivals during my teenage years, I'm now 80, and would I go squibing, fantastic fun but quite dangerous, I guess it's heavily regulated now. I now live in Norfolk and not been to the Somerset carnivals for years. I love your accent reminds me of home.

As someone who grew up on the Wiltshire/Somerset border and who used to go to the Somerset Carnivals every year as a kid this was ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING! We used to go to either Glastonbury or North Pertherton every year in the 1990s, but I also lived in Taunton in 2007 so went to Wellington that year, and was on the 'Best Local Float' at Taunton in that with Wiveliscombe YFC's take on "The Wurzels"! I have great memories of the carnivals as a kid (Burgers & Candy Floss, the warmth of all those old fashioned non-energy-saving bulbs as the floats went by and throwing pennies at the charity trailers), but the floats that stick in my mind are the ones where the generator has broken down: It must take guts to get up on one of these floats and dance for and hour or more with lights and sound, but to keep going in the dark takes real commitment. Even worse for the tableaus... Always made sure to give them an extra big clap and cheer! Hope it keeps going for many years to come!

Your makeup is very cute, just like your costume. Looks like this was another awesome event with a big crowd, who really enjoyed the carts. Your job driving the tug wasn't easy, because the route was narrow with challenging turns, but of course you were flawless again. These old streets were not designed for huge vehicles like these carnival carts, but at least there's plenty of help for the drivers. Watching all the various carnival clubs floats put me in mind of my uncle and auntie who were Dudley Bowers Amusements and travelling show people who used to build their own rides. They used to move around the country from town to town and I can picture their maroon colour Scammell Highwayman that was converted to a diesel generator. Fun times. I’m not sure if the Carnival world have their own Guild like the Showmen, but if not they deserve to. Absolutely incredible what you guys achieve by all pulling together to bring joy into people’s lives. I applaud all of you. 👏

Another excellent example of all the hard work put in by everybody involved . . . so many people with their own responsible positions to fulfil, you as #1 Skilful Driver in road positioning etc., Road Crew ( including your Dad 👍 ) keeping excellent helpful l👀kout for you along the route, especially the tightspots, & all of the Float Personnel doing their bit, dancing . . . it really is an excellent team & 1st class effort by everybody !
