You know you watch too much KZbin when the best video left to watch is just Dave driving a Leaf to buy some pants.

Ha..ha..ha, but we really watched to learn about the Leaf. I was stunned when he mentioned cost for charge.

To be fair on the charger expense, the car was charging extremely slowly (cold battery with no battery heater) using a charger which bills you by the minute - a bad combination. Should have plugged into a charger which charges by the Kwh - much less cost (to you) for a slow charging car.

Dave I have a 2012 leaf. The soler panel charges the 12 volt battery. If you charge at Ea it will be 3.00 to charge.

That startup chime sound brought back good memories of my 2014 Leaf. It was a lot of fun to drive. It's such a shame that the batteries degraded so much.

Love my 2014 for the local driving. Has about 70k miles and only missing 2 bars of battery. Still getting 50-60miles in the real cold weather and over 70 miles when its over 50F. plan on keeping it for the kids first ride in a few years. The great thing about the leaf is that all the newer battery packs fit the older ones. I have seen a few wrecked ones that still power and run go for under 5k at auction near me. So if the battery does degrade too much. There is always the option of grabing one on the cheap and selling parts from the donor car to make up the cost.

These old Leafs hold up well. My 2015 has 49k miles and drives like new. I can actually take it out of town on a full charge. Battery life is still at 85% after 9years. I change the transmission fluid and my efficiency went up to 4.3 kw/mile up from 3.9. These are great cars with a little planning on your part. But, like all things, you get used to it😊.

I have a LEAF and below 50% state of charge it charges between 40 and 50 kw even cold but the further beyond 50 you go the slower the charge rate.

Thank you Dave for an 11 minute-ish video. Long videos are boring because they are not edited. You are a very good speaker. Your spirit is filled by generous enthusiasm. But paying attention to editing videos to a maximum duration of 10 to 12 minutes makes your content more valuable to watch.

I know Kyle stays busy, but how have you not thrown a new AC charger in this thing yet? I kinda wish these things weren't so ugly, I think we need a lot more of these small battery city cars that are actually cheap and affordable. Reminds me of my old 500e which also was pretty lame, but a great little commuter.

The Leaf is past its prime, but when we bought ours in 2014 it was pretty amazing. I'm glad we traded ours in on a 2023 iD4 though. :)

I think it depends on your situation. For a primary car, I would tend to agree with you. However, we got a model Y which is our primary car. And the Leaf we literally drive around town. We got a 2019 leaf with pretty much no money due to the trade in of our SUV and the $4000 clean air tax credit.

Even the price is low for that little car I would pay more but to have the AC internal charging working: the main idea of that car convenience is to be charged overnight at home slowly, cheaply and less detrimental for the battery, plus to have a full “tank” in the morning. To conclude I would pay twice as much around 7000 USD but not to have accident’s damage and working AC charger for a reason: fixing AC and the ding might cost more than 3500 USD for a regular person without KZbin sponsorships.

Dave, you didn't close the little cover on the Chademo port, and then to make things worse, you didn't close the main charger door! Aahh! Other than that, great video! I just traded in my 2015 Leaf for a 2019 Kia Niro ev. The Leaf was a great first time Ev car, but yeah i was wanting more after 2 years. Keep the entertaining videos coming. I look forward to them!👍

Truth be told… I really miss my LEAF. If, during the 6 years I owned it, Nissan had upgraded the battery to 70+ kWh, added thermal management, and swapped the CHAdeMO port for CCS2… I would have stuck with the brand… and Nissan would be the EV frontrunner instead of Tesla. 😕

I saw an ID4 1st edition for $33k. It said it had been side swiped. They fixed damage but you never know with an electric car how bad it really was. Your cost is a lot easier to swallow if it doesn't work.

The only thing making this obsolete is the tiny range and the multiple charging issues. Other than that, if this car had a 350 mile range and charged reasonably well, it would be perfect for about 90 percent of most driving needs. Hope they update this car. It's what we really need.

I'm about to go check out a 2012 LEAF with 90k miles and 12 bars but 40 miles of range fully charged? Something seems fishy but I want to actually drive one of these and see if it is a good fit for me. ANY thoughts from anyone on the strange state of affairs with those numbers?

Man, if only Nissan could have had these cars at 180 mile range, they would have been MASSIVELY far useful. Should have been 48kWh batteries. Seems like a terrible investment though since used car prices are still through the roof and $13 for 11 miles of range? What's the point!

Kyle way overpaid for this Leaf due to the broken OBC. It's a 2012 Leaf that is ineligible for 95% of the fueling options on Plugshare with a non-broken 2012 Leaf. That's like an ICE car in California that can only fuel at 7-Eleven gas stations at double the normal price of gas. Most 7-Eleven in California do not have gas pumps.

Buick STEALERship, and “orange charging man system bad” company have hit my Shft list. Surprised someone who used their app, down to few miles, then rolled into the charger, did not take a sledge hammer to the orange charger bad once saw the bill. ChargePoint C level execs are guilty of FTC regulations. POS dealer and charging company, POS EV, priceless.

@@JohnRoss1 imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Thank you for your imitation. 👏🏻😎 That is why I implicated the Buick stealership and Chargepoint. Chargepoint gets a larger cut based on they common agreement to price gouge. And violate IRS, LGB, and FTC rules. Stealership owner and CP execs history will show are guilty.
