That place of cloth you said could be a kitchen rag Flour sacks were made with decorative patterns on the inside.Then they were made into many things. Including sometimes clothes . Just a little bit of history.

Those are gaming horseshoes. The little lips on either end are made to keep the shoe on the pin when it's spinning. Shoes used on horses are shaped rounder and follow the shape of the hoof.

Oxen were better at surviving the cold and provided a lot of meat if needed

oxen (cows) have spit hooves and the shoes are rather half moon shaped. like a horse shoe but just in half. one half is nailed on each side of hoof. this part of the USA had a lot of overland trails that the pioneers/farmers/freight haulers, used and people still find the oxen shoes on the old trails, campsites, etc.
